From the streets of London, England I bring you a great new indie folk band that I recently saw opening up for Cass McCombs . As you may recall, I thought they were better than him! Left With Pictures combines exuberant vocals from a great duo of singers with simple instrumentation that can be described as easy listening with top-notch hooks. Here's a music video from the band. Enjoy!

I often buy tickets to see bands I am not very familiar with. In my opinion, it gives these artists a chance to win me over, and earn my business. In the past few months I've seen I hated, and other I've loved (and a LOT in between). The other night I went to The Lexington in London to see Cass McCombs, and saw treated to a good show. It wasn't the most amazing thing I've seen in years, but it was good enough to earn my respect. [...]
Facts first: chartmaker Billboard announced last week that starting with their Dec 5th issue, they will be adding a Folk Albums chart to their sales-tracking activities. Snip : ...The Nielsen SoundScan-based survey will house new releases from traditional folk artists such Joan Baez, Ani DiFranco and Monsters of Folk, as well as appropriate titles by acoustic-based singer-songwriters such as Carly Simon, Rosanne Cash and Joshua Radin. The 15-position chart, to be managed by Gary Trust, will run periodically in print and appear weekly on billboard.biz and billboard.com. "Billboard's Folk Albums chart will [...]

This blog is no stranger to the agreeable chamber folk-pop of Left With Pictures - we've had singles on here, we've had a Seven Songs, and now after an extended wait, we have their newly released debut album. Those who have been following the band's output to date will be ...

After several super-good singles and EPs, the UK indie/folk band Left With Pictures is finally ready to release their debut album "Beyond Our Means" on October 26. I have waited and waited for this to happen... I often need some time to "get used to" albums from bands I already own a lot of singles from, - there are a lot of expectations, and the songs I've already heard need to be put into a new context. It takes time. "Beyond our means" took some time, but it has grown [...]

Left With Pictures have revived one of their old songs and re-recorded it as their new single. They've obviously had an eye on the seasons though, because here's a song arriving slap bang in the middle of August, which couldn't say 'summer' more if it came with a free pair ...

Left With Pictures have a new single out. The 7 inch comprises two songs - Every Stitch, Every Line and Her Father's Nose - which are another fine showcase for the London quartet's agreeable chamber pop, this time with a definite spring in their step. It's good stuff and augurs ...

Left With Pictures are a London-based 4-piece, three of who are classically trained musicians and the other being Ed from The Mules. Their myspace describes their music as 'chamber pop' but their more recent efforts have had more of a folky, skiffle sound to them. As far as comparisons go, I'd say a happier Inlets or Belle & Sebastian on a good day. Her Father's Nose is the b-side to upcoming single Every Stitch, Every Line that comes out on Organ Grinder Records on 18th May. It's an upbeat and bouncy track [...]

I've been meaning to write about Left With Pictures for a while now - since bumbling into them on myspace & being bowled over by their enchanting, classical ensemble approach to popular music. The 'Secretly' EP - out on Organ Grinder Records is a delightful confection of achingly lyrical, clever tunes, each with a distinct character, all infused with splendid harmonies, lovely acoustic guitar, melodica, & charming string arrangements; it feels to me like a mini chamber-opera of pop-songs - five beautifully observed stories in words & music, teasing the emotion [...]
Taking a band out of the rehearsal room and away from the stage to shoot a video on some outdoor setting, - it's done by many. I found this site today, and for some reason I haven't seen it before, I think. It's called Bandstand Busking , and they have several good bands playing mostly in a park-area. The ones on this site is actually quite good. I'll show only a few here, and you can go to the site and watch the rest. There are 3 songs + often an interview with each band. [...]

Left With Pictures - Boats (ou zshare ) Purée j'ai écouté neuf fois cette chanson aujourd'hui, puis j'ai croisé neuf fois ExCD juste après et, à chacune de ces neuf fois, je me suis senti obligé de m'excuser... Je n'avais pourtant vraiment rien à me reprocher (depuis l'histoire HAAAAAamy without an Heyche je me tiens à carreau) mais, je le jure, c'était sincère à chaque fois... _ _ _ _ "On" nous bassine [...]
Well, the nights are drawing in, the mornings are getting colder, it can only mean one thing; Autumn is just around the corner. But, with that depressing thought starting to circulate (though Autumn is one of MY favourite months) we've got something to take your mind right off it. This months Mixtape features a whole array of great talent, from the quasi-anti-folk of Polly Scattergood to the return of a TLOBF Fav, Of Montreal. Can ...

End of the Road Festival is only three years old in September, but already it seems to be the place for me to discover great new artists, even if I didn't actually see them there. The first two years have seen performances by artists that I have gone on to love, then regret I had failed to see them the previous September, mainly because I had never heard (of) them at the time. So the inaugural 2006 festival saw me missing sets by the then-unknown-to-me Barbarossa, Frightened Rabbit and Pink Mountaintops. Last year's bash saw me missing Zombie Zombie, Dawn [...]
