![Landon A.R. Coleman's Single Life [Review]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3630030_lg.jpg)
Feeling the void of no new materials from Leif Vollebekk ? Have no fear! I got this email from this Ottawa musician named Landon A.R. Coleman . He will drop his new album "A Single Life" on August 15, 2011. Landon is a Edmonton ex-pat now living in Ottawa. From his Facebook it says "Landon Coleman sings folk music with his eyebrows." how cheeky! When I mentioned Leif, it is because he help produced this album. The album is ten tracks filled with great [...]
When I walked up to the Biltmore to interview Leif Vollebekk , I found him closing the van and introduced myself. Turns out I was actually talking to Rolf from Acorn (the band Leif was on tour with). Leif and Rolf look uncannily alike and could easily be confused for siblings. So I guess it is luck the Acorn chose Leif to go on tour with them. Leif later told me that he was manning the merch [...]

Canada (aka The Line of Best Fit). Its their second compilation and features a slew of great Canadian talent. From the likes of Great Lake Swimmers , The Zolas , Basia Bulat , Leif Vollebekk , The Russian Futurists , Evening Hymns , Snailhouse and many [...]

Toronto - Although I am more of a brit rock / electro pop listening kind of guy, I generally believe that everytypes of music has it's place and time. It turned out that last Thursdays triple bill of Olenka, Leif Vollebekk and the Wilderness of Manitoba was the perfect place and time for me. You see, I had arrived at the Horseshoe on the heels of a hard fought ball hockey game, one where I got so pissed at one of our own players for his lack of defensive intensity that I yelled at him on [...]

Hands & Teeth is a band from Toronto. One of the members emailed me (happened to see stuff on Leif Vollebekk in this site) and I should check out their music. Their music is indie pop and parts experimental. Very reminisced to other Canadian acts like The New Pornographers, Mother Mother and Rah Rah. Jeff Pinto who is one of the members said that their sound is a mix of Fleetwood Mac and Roxy Music. There are classic elements but it's overall not a throwback. The band members [...]

Frank Yang I guess the final day of coverage is as good a time as any to talk about some of the non- Pop Explosion aspects of my visit to Halifax, which was my first-ever visit to the east coast and first trip within Canada in over three years. Though to be honest, I didn't do a whole lot that wasn't HPX-related - some wandering around downtown Halifax, which seemed to be in a particularly epic state of construction and/or renovation, the previously mentioned fast/walkabout to Point Pleasant, and most enjoyably a visit to [...]

On the third day on my adventures of Pop Montreal. Let's say I was still reeling from the night before since I came back home late to my friend's place very late to due Montreal buses going at weird times. Also it was the first time my brother came down for the festival so we can stay in the hotel. From my previous post on who to see, sadly I didn't get to see Pat Jordache and Dog Day. Here is how my day three began. Went to Le [...]

Day 2 of Pop Montreal couldn't come in the worst time which was mostly weather related. I am talking mostly about the rain but it was still a busy night to check out the acts playing. Sadly I didn't get to see Women, the Arbutus Records showcase, Bonjay and Holy Fuck. Here is how my day started in Day 2 of Pop Montreal. The day started out with doing a short interview with François Lafontaine of Karkwa. I was more amazed of being [...]

This week (Sept 29-Oct 3) I will be attending the 9th annual Pop Montreal Festival . This year's line-up is eclectic from previous years. But there are great acts that you should definitely see this years. Here is a list for the week (It might change during the course at the Festival) For those that don't have the funds to attend the night shows, this year at Divan Orange there will be acts playing during the afternoon. I am more excited to see Leif Vollebekk and [...]

Photo Credit: Caroline Desilets During a time when crunchy, controversial, and over hyped albums are making noise on the internet, it's extremely refreshing to hear some fresh, real, authenticity in music. Leif Vollebekk's debut release "Inland" is roughly 40 minutes to think, zone out, or wash away some form of stress you didn't even know you had. Leif is a singer and songwriter, but I hate to limit him with that label. "Inland" goes way beyond the style of a traditional singer/songwriter. Leif's not a guy sitting around strumming chords and singing [...]
Should we just turn this whole french babe thing into a series? Geez. His name is Leif Vollbekk , (seriously?) and he is absolutely jaw-droppingly beautiful and plays the kind of soulful folk that captivates listeners. After a few listens I drew comparisons with Jeff Buckley, The Tallest Man On Earth, Fionn Regan and Damien Rice. His LP 'Inland' that was released back in January via Nevado Records is acoustically-driven, rich in narratives and elegant vocals. I admittedly can't handle it when he starts singing in French. Yes, I still have imaginary crushes that will never come [...]

Filed under: Concerts and Tours , Canada Sometimes an artist can play a city many times in a year, but each time will feel like a fresh introduction. As Montreal-based folk singer Leif Vollebekk took the stage at Sneaky Dee's in Toronto for NXNE , he and his live drummer, Phil Melanson, were all smiles to the (overly) talkative audience. Even after Vollebekk poked fun at the chatter, saying later in the set "Here's a quiet one, because the mood is so intimate right now" [...]
Here is part 3 of who I or you should check out at NXNE in Toronto. So this will be Friday night's event. Since last year at NXNE, my Friday night was a free for all and do some venue hopping. Here is a possible list of who to check out on Friday night. Global Village Backpacker's: MOLLY RANKIN (Halifax, NS) - 1pm ANDY SWAN (Breadalbane, PEI)- 1:30pm 2:00pm- THE COAST (Toronto, ON) http://www.myspace.com/thecoas tmusic 2:30pm- CHRIS PAGE [...]
With NXNE pressing in on us I thought it was appropriate to dedicate this week's edition of 3 More To Explore to acts that will be playing the festival. Hence: Allison Lickley For those who like: Sarah McLachlan The Montreal-based popster is working on her new studio album. She'll be playing the Free Times Cafe on June 17th.
