Interview by Tom Johnson On April 1st, The Leisure Society will return to the spotlight with Alone Aboard The Ark ; album number three in a career that has always felt like a slow, steady and often beautiful stroll. Recorded at Ray Davies' Konk studio, Ark is a big stride forward for the band - more diverse, imaginative and, ultimately, rewarding than they've ever been. Ahead of the release, and with a full UK tour to follow, we caught up with chief songwriter Nick Hemming to find [...]
I heard the most welcome of sounds when I woke up this morning, the sound of rain on the roof. I didn't hear people shoveling or a plow working its way down the street. I heard heavy rain, and I was glad. The day may be dismal and dark, but the rain is a bright spot, sort of oxymoronic I know, but that's the way it feels. I am going to Hyannis today. It is really not very far, but I sometimes think of the journey as a trek of sorts. I'm attending a luncheon with the Cape [...]

ARTIST INFO: Philadelphia's Saur returns to MTWAT. Just as with his previous release, the club pumping 'Angry Duck EP', Saur is keeping it tight with his signature sound of tropical beats, dutch vibed synths and dope basses on his newest installment titled 'Friendly Duck EP'. Originally from Ukraine and now living in Philadelhia, Saur is quickly becoming a well-received player in the US club scene, like he says, 'SAUR loves to perform in front of people by mixing various songs together in a seamless fashion.' Great remixes come from Dim Mak and Malente associates [...]
The morning is lovely, sunny and cool. All the animals are having their naps in all their favorite places. Every now and then I can hear a kid's voice from down the street and a bird or two, but mostly it's quiet. I love this kind of morning. I took my time this morning. The day has lent itself to leisure, to reading the papers slowly, missing nothing, and having an extra cup of coffee. I'm staring at the laundry bag in the hall. It hasn't moved and neither have I. The morning has brought a contentedness and laundry [...]

On July 31st, Blur dropped the 21 Box Set and the re-release/reissue of their seven albums. Blur being my favorite British band, still can't believe they have been together for 21 years. The band will play a big show at Hyde Park and at the Summer Olympics closing ceremony. So in turn I would like to reveal my 21 favorite Blur tracks of all time. Think of this as a "Greatest Hits mixtape". This list includes b-sides and remixes. Those wanting to know if this certain famous song of theirs will make [...]

Straight atcha from Sweatshop Union this is 'We Ready'. Very seamless flow with quite the futuristic beat. These fellers are from Canada Aye, and they've been spittin' hip-hop since the early two thousands. This is some good shit. Enjoy! For the last couple of weeks Blur have been teasing us with talk of some new music, the first from the band since 20102s Record Store Day track "Fool's Day" . Today they performed both new tracks "Under The Westway" (which has been performed live a couple of times this year) and "The Puritan" live on a rooftop in London and streamed the performance live on t'interwebs, but now you can hear both tracks in studio quality below. "Under [...]

After too many to count active passes through Leisure's new album Plastic Soul it's evident that the young Cambridge, Ma collective stand out from the crowd. The bands north-european rock appreciation is clearly there. Singer Jed Rouhana gracefully takes vocal cues from some of the post-punk greats while in his wake follows a witty and buoyant mix of classic British post-rock. The title and closing track "Plastic Soul" is a 6+ minute opus with a melting sax line. Another standout for your repeat button is the ballad "Goodnight Cairo" which manages some worthy U2 caliber weight. Kick back [...]
This weekend I started following Keep Shelly in Athens on Soundcloud & realized that I missed 2 free remixes that the duo uploaded for their fans. Check them out below & learn from my mistake, FOLLOW... **Summary** Go to website for downloads, videos & more.

Some genres suffer from a lot of cliches. OK, so all genres do to some extent, but some suffer that bit more, like they have a black hole of cliches sucking infinitely upon them. It doesn't stop credible music or new ideas being written within that genre, but it makes it an absolute minefield in which to tread. One of the obvious genres to suffer this affliction is rock, which is possibly down to the over-ambitious bands of the 70s and 80s that eventually led to the likes of Spinal Tap and Bad News finding a [...]

People who know them have been waiting for this for ages now, so I'm happy to be able to say that Leisure have announced a release date for their debut album, which will be called Plastic Soul . It's due to be released on 18th June digitally. They came to prominence supporting Girls back in 2010, with the song 'It's Alright (On The Suez Canal)' catching many an ear. With Beatles-esque strings, quirky guitars and the charming vocals of singer Jed Rouhana. Fans of Girls, Bowie and Grizzly Bear should definitely take [...]

MY SOUNDCLOUD PICKS OF THE WEEK: The SXSW Last Drink Standing Hangover Edition w/Leisure and Keep Shelly in Athens, Le Nonsense, Blondes and Bicep, Tomas Barfod, xxyyxx and Anneka, Eye Emma Jedi, Alpine and Goldroom and Ta-ku The crippling realization that another incredible SXSW is over is finally sinking in, along with a mind-numbing residual hangover that really just needs some Tex-Mex style breakfast tacos and a margarita. Until 2013 I’ll have to figure out how to deal with SX withdrawal. This week my Soundcloud picks have done the trick. Hope you dig em’ [...]
Very worthy of downloading.

I crushed hard on Leisure's music the first time I heard it. After all, what's not to love? It's dark, echo-laden and flush with ambiance. We even called them one of the best artists you may have missed in 2011. So, as you can imagine, I am very proud to announce that this month’s single featured in the March Pairings featured the Cambridge, Massachusetts’ based trio. The band initially rose to prominence in the music scene after being asked to open for a series of shows with San Francisco band Girls. Since then they’ve been carefully releasing singles from their [...]
