First of all - sorry for the lack of posts lately. We're still gathering ourselves after a week in Austin @ SXSW. We did manage to make it into the studio to record our fourth podcast - the SXSW Edition. While the podcast is our shortest in length - we don't think there's any less rambling. Oh boy. You know the drill - Download. Stream. Share. As always - we apologize ahead of time. 1) Mystic - Joshua James 2) Most Of The [...]

Photos and words by Brittany Kalaj Margulieux Fitted jeans, leather boots and just-unkempt-enough facial hair. Seattle's Ivan & Alyosha played to a packed house at The Echo. And even though they had to wake up at the crack of dawn for Morning Becomes Eclectic, they didn't skimp on the encore. [View with PicLens] [...]

I am thrilled to try a new venue for our next Fuel/Friends house show - on Tuesday we are welcoming Lemolo from Seattle, with You Me & Apollo from Denver, into a spacious rad woodshop near UCCS. It smells heavenly and warm, of sawdust and creation in there. I actually just woke up from having an elaborate dream about this show, and I can now guarantee you that it was pretty damn cool. It will be wonderful to host Lemolo's first Colorado show ever [...]

Frightened Rabbit return to Seattle this Friday / photo by Morgen Schuler With the KEXP Spring Fundraising Drive now over (and thank you to everyone who pledged a gift of support), it's time to get down to some live music in Seattle. This week, things start with a couple nice little shows at Easy Street Records in West Seattle with Pickwick on Monday night, and The Cave Singers on Tuesday night. Looking for other options on Tuesday night? There's also a SXSW Send Off Show with Lemolo, OC Notes, Spac3man, [...]

photo by Renata Steiner I still get chills when I think back to the 2011 KEXP in-studio when 4AD veterans Brendan Perry (Dead Can Dance) and Robin Guthrie (Cocteau Twins) performed Tim Buckley’s “Song to the Siren.” I can only assume I did something really unselfish in a previous life in order to wind up right there in the room as two of my all-time favorite artists covered an iconic classic. But the best part of that in-studio? Knowing that music lovers all over the world were sharing the same experience I was. I love [...]
Favorite Songs of 2012: Part 1 (100-51) You will have to take these list rankings with a grain of salt, because although I tried my best to accurately arrange the tracks, I change it every time I listen to one of the songs. I also only included my favorite song from each artist, so there are no doubles (except for I think one person, but they were part of two different groups). A few songs are also technically from before 2012, but they all appear on albums or [...]

As I've mentioned on many occasions, I keep a running playlist throughout the year. You've seen bits and pieces of it here but as 2012 comes to a close, here is the final product. Full of the singles that I listened to on repeat to the tracks I put on every mixtape this year and now with the added bonus of being influenced by the year end lists of my friends and contemporaries. It's all over the place genre-wise, but I think it is a pretty solid collection. Amanda Palmer - [...]

Favorite Albums Of 2012 (Alex) After looking my top albums list over, I realize it's much more moody than years past. I think this might be because the majority of the time I listen to music is when I'm inside, and living in Seattle that means it's probably a little misty or cloudy out. If it's bright, shiny and beautiful out, I'm most likely frolicking in the sun and not listening to music that would fit for that type of weather. Or maybe I just liked [...]

Top 12 Albums of 2012 (Julia) 12. Tramp - Sharon Van Etten Favorite Track : "Give Out" Totally enchanted by Sharon Van Etten's voice. Such a good album for a rainy day, and considering it rains most of the time here in Seattle, it's pretty much a good album for every day. 11. There's No Leaving Now - The Tallest Man on Earth [...]

photo by James Bailey James Murphy may have pulled the plug on LCD Soundsystem , but that doesn't mean he won't be collaborating with other bands. Most recently, Arcade Fire fan group Arcade Fire Tube have discovered proof that Murphy is in the studio with the band, working on their forthcoming album. The photo the group posted on their Facebook page appears to be an excerpt from an article about Arcade Fire's management team in the latest issue of Music Week . According to [...]
I know I waxed philosophical about the value of an album as a whole earlier this week but don't get me wrong- I treasure my iPod and it is jam packed with playlists with every theme under the sun. Including a "Best of..." for 2012. Here is the ten I've chosen from that ...pretty extensive list that has soundtracked my year. Melanie and Barlow contributed ten of their carefully cultivated choices each to help round it out and here's our official Best Tracks of 2012 . [Tiffiny] Apologies, I Have None - The [...]
For a musician, getting to a show (and doing so on time) is always some sort of adventure ... even if you're just driving from the hotel down the street. But when it comes to the ladies of Lemolo, their route to shows is not only an adventure, but a beautiful one. It consists of [...]

December starts off with a full week of fantastic new shows to tell you about. Monday sets the bar high for one of our favorites bands - Simian Mobile Disco at Neumos. On Thursday, Neumo's hosts another must see show with Charles Bradley and The Mehanan Street Band , and you can also check out John Cale and Cass McCombs at Showbox at the Market. On Friday, make sure you don't miss Allen Stone and Lemolo at Paramount Theatre. You can also go support a great cause [...]

Absent for a month and indeed, sorry for that. But here we are now: the fall has descended upon the Ozarks and year 30 has dropped into my lap. Let me admit some things. I will admit that I have not written since early October. I will admit that I have not listened to music - not a mixtape in my car, not a snuck secular jam in my office, not a handcrafted playlist in my home - in more than a month. I will admit that it's likely due to a combination of the weather [...]

Here's some vocal ambient just right for a tired Sunday afternoon. Free download. I don't know either of Lemolo or Minorstep. Lemolo turn out to a dream-pop duo from Seattle, Washington. The band comprises Meagan Grandall on vocals, guitar and keyboard and Kendra Cox on drums and keyboard. This track is hardly dream pop. It is much more ethereal than that. There's a lovely live on KEXP version below. Minorstep is Athens-based producer, remixer and audio engineer George Kroustallis. The remix is ambient and let's the vocals do most of the work, which is the right choice. Beats are kept soft [...]

It may have turned for the worse outside, but there's still plenty to see inside. City Arts Fest dominates most of the schedule with an amazing week of music ahead in almost every venue in town. It's a busy week with a ton of great choices for everyone. On Monday night Beth Orton sets the bar high for the week with a highly anticipated performance at Showbox at the Market. On Tuesday, Grimes, Elite Gymnastic , and Myths are at Neumos, Crocodiles and The Soft Pack are at Crocodile, and [...]
