Usually when an artist describes themselves as " ambient shoegaze " it would act more like a repellent for this blog, causing us to quickly immerse ourselves in something ass-kickingly rocking, like Led Zeppelin's Good Times Bad Times , or Slayer's Raining Blood , or we'd rush off to swag around with a turned-up-to-eleven blast of Ante Up , or any other musical equivalent to receiving a bucket of water facially. It's not that we're particularly against that style or genre of music, but most [...]

A recent brief debate cropped up in a comment thread on our recent post about the band IO. You can see that post here and all it's reader's musings, but the main complaint was the lack of a distinct chorus within the tracks. Now for our tuppence worth we suggested that music doesn't actually need a chorus, no more than every film needs a twist, but amongst certain genres or types of music it is perhaps expected, and particularly if you are discussing the brand of indie that IO create. Personally we didn't think the lack of a [...]
It's been a good week for music discovery. Here's 10 tracks to prove it. Get to chillin'. New feature: 3 descriptors for each track + genre for easier selective listening. Beautiful HDR photography from Elia Locardi of Blame The Monkey . Tutorials, gear suggestions, and hi-res photos over on his site. [...]

Only a couple more classes until winter break, and today we vere away from the 128 bpm world EO lives in and explore the universe of Intelligent Dance Music (IDM). Under that giant EDM umbrella of music, lives the genres more conservative, laid back cousin, IDM. IDM can be described as ambient, downtempo, and melodic. It is the type of music that can be heard in lounges or just chill out to. Tracks are marked by a more prominently featured and complex beat when compared to the background beat that anchors standard EDM tracks. While the same [...]

What's up kids? I've got a doozy for you all today: a 1.7-hour playlist of songs about space. Why? Just for kicks, and because it gives me an excuse to post this link: www.spacetelescope.org/images/ archive/top100/ Which, if the URL doesn't make it obvious, is a collection of the 100 "best" space telescope pictures, and, I gotta say, there's some great ones, for sure. But anyways, about the music! 18 songs from a wide variety of genres and time periods, all with titles and/or subject matter relating to space. The ILS [...]

On June 21st , British artist and electronic musician Nick Franglen (of Lemon Jelly ) will play a 24-hour piece of improvised music , starting and ending at midnight, in collaboration with the thousands of people who walk or bicycle across Manhattan Bridge during the course of the day. Franglen will be installed in The Archway under the Manhattan Bridge, playing a Theremin with looping effects pedals to create washes of sound. Meanwhile, sensors installed on Manhattan Bridge's pathways, high above The Archway, will register the passing of each [...]

Lemon Jelly - Rolled ( mp3 )
Hitchhiking: the great American adventure sport or just a risky last resort?
Recently the mother of all indie music sites, Epitonic, relaunched. This event had me digging in my back catalog for some of that early music that Epitonic turned me on to. It, along with You... [go to the website to read the rest of the article, download mp3s and more]

'To The Victor - The Spoils!', the first release of Flashman aka Fred Deakin of Lemon Jelly and Robin Jones of the Beta Band, came out a couple of weeks ago. I was a huge fan of Lemon Jelly's inspired sampling and the all-round joie de vivre of their albums; and some of The Beta Band's early folky sounds have a gentle loveliness, so was really interested in this. But also concerned that it would be less than the sum of its parts. They call it " an improvised jazz-folk odyssey " which is pretty worrying, since the words 'jazz' [...]

It finally happened .... and a day early to boot! Not given it a proper listen through yet but I do like 'Lotus Flower' and the accompanying video . Also in my news, long-time friend of the blog Hostage sent over his new track and it kicks and bumps in all the right places.... then decides to slap you in the face with its huge clubby balls. Dope! Finally, just finished watching Spaced again and this Lemon Jelly song rounds off what is probably one of my favourite TV programs ever. DANCE [...]

Fred Deakin, de ene helft van Lemon Jelly , heeft samen met Robin Jones (van het mij onbekende Beta Band) een nieuw album afgeleverd. Het heet To The Victor - The Spoils, wat me natuurlijk erg aanspreekt, alleen al omdat mijn naam erin genoemd wordt.
Here at Nerdy Frames, we love us some mixtapes and none better to grace this blog that a rare oddity from UK electronic band Lemon JellyWhat people nowadays fail to realize is that a good mixtape should never be restricted to seamless mixing which at times may help but the core chunk for me is that selection is both vast, risky and memorable to say the least.Sure Lemon Jelly mixing is not par for
This can be a super stressful time of the year for most people; if you're a student you're probably mired in loads of work for exams, and if you have a job you're probably loaded with end-of-the-year stuff to do. So, today I have a special treat for you. All of the songs here have one function: they're really, really relaxing. This is my go-to playlist for whenever I'm trying to kick back and

B-r-a-v-e out of Sydney, is a man with endless talent. B-r-a-v-e is Maia Witika, a guy who for a while now he has been honing his skills across various disciplines in music production, and while B-r-a-v-e is only a recent feather in his cap, he's already gathering momentum at an impressive pace. B-r-a-v-e is disco, french house, loops, vocals, compression, samples and emotion. B-r-a-v-e is fresh, highly skilled and pushing boundaries where few are. B-r-a-v-e has been kind enough to share with us two tracks today, the first an original, and the second a remix of fellow Aussie [...]
