But neither did Puff Daddy , and as a music blogger (even one who's been missing for a couple of months) my hard drive is stuffed to bursting with ' versions '. For decades record companies have used remixes as a marketing tool. Major acts would commission a variety of remixes to appeal to the various scenes... " right this new Sting track is amazing but we'd like a pop mix, a northern dance round the handbag club mix, a hip-hop take, and a credible electronic version please "... " oh and make sure you use all [...]

So it's that time of year again, the time for the "best of" lists that seem to crop up everywhere. While I find the idea of a list of the best albums of a year overwhelming (let alone of a DECADE, not even gonna touch that one), I know that I will be able to handle it. However, for now I'm easing into it with a more specific category, my favorite remixes released this year. Though often overdone, and largely mediocre, a good remix can be a powerful thing. It can transform a great song into an even greater one, [...]

Delorean at Le Poisson Rouge, 10.23.09 As you know last week was a whirlwind of shows in NYC for CMJ! Some days we hit about 4 different showcases, as was the case on Friday. My Friday CMJ-age started at Rockwood for Au Revoir Simone 's set for SPIN Magazine, Dolorean at Le Poisson Rouge for self-titled Magazine, followed by Via Tania and Fall On Your Sword at Norwood for The Hours & High-Rise Showcase, topped off with Sleigh Bells at Market Hotel for the Anti-CMJ [...]

Oh CMJ , rival to SXSW, always with an inferiority complex. It may not get the prized sort of one-off appearances like its Austin sibling (e.g. Kanye West or Jane's Addiction), but that's not to say CMJ can't hold its own. Coupled with the already thriving New York City concert scene, the influx of young talent with the already established indie stars, there's bound to be something for everyone at all hours of the day. That's a good thing and a bad thing. For every act you're pining to see, there's another four or five right behind [...]

The world's largest lemonade stand is being built in time for the opening of the Highline park, which we had the privilege to visit and can say that it's absolutely mesmerizing. Wonder what other surprises the opening holds. Posted in D Is For Design, Somethin' Diff, Yankee Panky Tagged: highline, largest, lemonade, new, opening, park, stand, video, world's

Many people do not want to think about September 2008. That is when a nice glob of economic feces totally hit the proverbial fan. Nevertheless, we here at GIMME TINNITUS choose to look back. If a tree falls in the forest and nobody is there to hear it, does it make a sound? What if the tree is Cale Parks and the forest is Great Scott ? What then? Wednesday night's concert took a step towards answering that age old question, as a late night show from Cale Parks, Lemonade , and Earthquake Party fell not on deaf ears, but on few ears at all. I have never been to a show at Great Scott as poorly attended as Wednesday night. I have never [...]

Again, super behind on the music that's been coming in. Apologies. Fortunately for this blog Markus G (formerly Sirhan) has been kicking it into overdrive and delivering some quality, quality tunage. As for everyone else (Black Holes, Kid Color, miracleGro, and both Brookah's), they've all been removed for lack of contribution. Sad face. Anyway, as always, I feel like all of these artists would ultimately get their own post, but I'm too far behind. Lastly, had to post up this picture of The Balconies... Jacquie is too cute, not to mention the ultra authenticity of the bros beside her. [...]

Seems like Delorean is finding more and more ways to get into my good graces. For now they've remixed Lemonade 's "Big Weekend", and frankly made it a lot more listenable. Sounds like it's time to head for the beach (after all isn't that what August is for?), so c'mon and bring your jukebox money. Lemonade - Big Weekend (Delorean remix)
