We owe the rise of the "Shoegaze" and "Dream Pop" genres to the 1980s UK alt rock & punk scene. Not without coincidence, this crossed paths with the rise of the synthesizer in rock music. The term "Shoegaze" arose from the musicians' practice of staring at their effects pedals during concerts, rather than moving around: it started as a pejorative term, then became a welcome classification. Joanna Gruesome are fast becoming my favourite new band of the minute for their kick-ass 90s lo-fi sound, and new track Lemonade Grrl could well seal the deal. Expanding on their previous work, and still taking influence from the likes of MBV, The Cherry Smash, Rocketship and Beat Happening, it's twee yet 'FUCKYEAH' at the same time from the Cardiff five-piece. Interesting video for Boys Noize & Erol Alkan's single "Lemonade". The video showcases two girls, possibly sisters, doing some tandem bike riding and some serious balancing and tricks on them.
