Buffalo trio Lemuria have been purveying a strain of rocking indie pop for almost a decade now. With a slew of singles behind them, it's surprising that they've only recently finished recording their third full-length. As yet untitled, the LP will be released later this year on Bridge 9 Records , following their second, Pebbles (also on Bridge 9) and their debut, Get Better , on Asian Man. We harrassed the hell out of drummer and vocalist Alex Kerns via Twitter and e-mail, and he was surprisingly willing to answer some questions [...]
Tweet Follow @acidjacknyc [photos by acidjack] Buffalo's Lemuria aren't actually on Don Giovanni Records , but as friends of the label they joined several of their like-minded acts for an epic night of music that also included Hilly Eye (that recording coming soon), Jeffrey Lewis ( recording here ), Waxahatchee (coming in early March) and Laura Stevenson ( recording here) . The band served up a healthy dose of their early-90s style sound which recalls the raw, direct style [...]

Lemuria bassist Max Gregor revealed some details on the upcoming release: We're excited to be heading into J Robbin's recently acquired studio in Baltimore, MD, to record a new full length for Bridge Nine . We've balanced out [our] busy lives over the past year with a number of songs that collectively create an atmosphere of distance and contemplation, while still reaching towards some of the band's catchier, energetic [...]

By Judy Tate August 3rd-6th, 2012 For me, Hevy Festival 2012 was perfectly, though unexpectedly, summarized by an elderly lady outside the Bison enclosure in the nearby animal park, which wristbands gained festival goers free entry to. The grandmother stated she had never seen so many tattoos and piercings in her life and this was pretty accurate. Perhaps if she had been aware of flesh tunnels, vans, flat caps and creepers she may have also been impressed at their abundance too. Having set the scene (in particular the subcultural 'scene') of Kent's [...]

2012 has been nothing if not an awesome year for music. The awesome releases will have to taper off eventually because I'm already overwhelmed. We easily started off with a playlist twice this size before narrowing it down to ten tracks a piece. Apologies, I Have None - 60 Miles Audra Mae - The Real Thing Best Coast - The Only Place Chris Stowe - Sometimes They Give Us Beer For Free [...]

Lemuria have announced some US and UK dates this summer.

Chased the Indie crowd over to Emo's East on the last night of Chaos in Tejas . Dreams of a comfy photo pit were dashed, but the staff did what they could for the photographers to help us out. Why were we there? To see the Mind Spiders , of course. Oh wait, the headliner was Best Coast . Did I care? Not so much, but I wanted to shoot them. So, why not check out an ATH favorite and take in the other "openers" Laura Stevenson and the Cans and [...]

Lemuria released a new song out of nowhere today. It's certainly unexpected but welcome all the same. Hopefully this means more new material is on the horizon. Stream "Varoom Allure"
Bugbear - Lemuria It's Lemuria season here. I love in this song near the end when it stops " Bug... " and then comes back after a beat " ...Beeeeaaaaarrrrr ." It's an obvious thing to love and i do. I still haven't heard their most recent album, Pebble . The one on Bridge 9, maybe because it's on Bridge 9. I know nothing about that record label except a vague transmitted sense that it's uncool jock jocking and on the wrong side [...]

The Origamists - Lemuria Lemuria sing a lot about sex. Openly, maturely, intimately, personally. It was new lyrical ground in the pop punk sphere, or at least a new approach to it. No more timid, distanced songs of desire, of wanting to do do things never mentioned, of bodyless coupling. It's out. We're adults now. We have fleshy things within us, on us, that are pleasurable and pleasurable when shared with others. I'm not sure if any other bands ran with this [...]
