Even though there are some great releases this week, my pick for this week exceeds them in every way possible. Ghostland Observatory's third studio album Robotique Majestique , is by far my favorite release so far this year. I have been a fan of their's for a little while now, but this album just makes me want to quit school and follow them around on tour. Every song is masterfully crafted and seduces your ear to beg for more. Once you get through the end of the album, your adrenaline is pumping so hard that [...]

It's kind of slow week for new releases, but if you're heading to your local record store here are a few we recommended. Actually Beach House's Devotion comes with the highest recommendation we can give. It is truly a gorgeous album and deserves to be heard by all. Do yourself a huge favor and make sure you grab it on Tuesday. New releases, album art, and mp3's after the jump...
Although Buffalo pop punk all-stars Lemuria are about five hours away from Albany, I still feel a kindred connection with them. Upstate New York pride whoo! Seriously though.. nice to find a talented group that isn't from Brooklyn. Lemuria certainly fits into the talented category. The band is a three-peice playing upbeat poppy songs that [...]
Dear readers, may I get personal for a moment? Robot David is feeling old. My wife and I have been binging on My So-Called Life episodes lately, and it made me realize how dated everything from the nineties feels now. To the show's credit, the writing holds up very well after 14 years, but when a show's plot heavily relies teens going to a Buffalo Tom show - well, you're not in 2008 anymore. Lemuria hail from Buffalo, NY, and their sound is pure nineties, in the best possible way. I hear Lemonheads, Letters To Cleo, Juliana Hatfield. Lemuria -...

Buffalo's Lemuria has been been a real working band since their formation in 2004. Touring, touring, and then more touring. So after putting out various singles and EP's, their debut album Get Better is out now on Asian Man Records. And their song below, "Pants," has triggered my obsessive compulsive disorder; besides having me absolutely hooked, it's so catchy, fuzzy, and snappy, that after Sheena sings "You never missed a word I tried to fit/Inside a chorus, inside a verse, all my intros and the bridge/That's where I put all the awful things I think I am/And if [...]

Monday, February 4, 2008 Oh No! 19-0 didn't happen! Not to take anything away from the Giants' victory, but I think the pressure of perfection may have been too much because the Patriots played their most conservative and tight game of the entire season. It was weird to see them not confident. In any case, I hope you guys are ready for an entire offseason of analysts talking about how Eli Manning will now become the greatest quarterback of all time. Yeah! Here's an EP. Enjoy. [...]

It's that time of year again- Superbowl Sunday and all. I'm not even entirely sure who's playing. I could really care less. I'm only interested in the commercials ... and the beer. I'm more concerned with Premiership Football this week, with the top three teams all away, and only 5 points between Chelsea and the top of the table. Anyway, whatever your weekend plans are, have a good one, and enjoy this week's mixtape. Tracklisting: American Music Club - San Francisco [...]

Lemuria was supposedly an ancient civilization which existed prior to and during the time of Atlantis, and existed largely in the Southern Pacific, between North America and Asia/Australia. Yeah. Lemuria is also a Buffalo-based indie pop/punk trio, consisting of guitarist/main vocalist Sheena Ozzella, bassist Jason Draper, and drummer/vocalist Alex Kerns. They formed in 2004 and have kept busy ever since with self-released EPs and touring. Now however, Lemuria are set to release their debut record, "Get Better", which is promised to be full of "tight melodic punk songs". [...]
Justin : Hailing from the non-City part of New Yawk state, Lemuria sing sweet songs. They made a bit of splash last year on their split with now-defunct crooner Kind of Like Spitting, an album that by all rights should have been on my year-end list. The song "Hours" is the apex of their sound in my mind: powerchords, slightly throaty vocals and leading basslines. Sheena takes the lead on this track with the most awkward chorus ever of "everywhere you touched everywhere you touched!" It's happy sometimes female fronted indie-punk that sings about not wanting to get [...]
I'll be guest posting for ____motion until the end of January. For my first post it is necessary, of course, to include my current favorite band in the universe (and possible other universes): Lemuria! Early 90s inspired power pop, cute male/female vocals, and songs you can't help but sing along to. What else do you need in life? Thus far they've only released a demo, two splits (with Frame and Kind of Like Spitting) [...]
Sometime back in the Spring, Jeremy Lowther (the mastermind behind Friends Make Records , which puts out Elementary Thought Process and Endless Mike and The Beagle Club records) told me I might really dig this band from Buffalo called Lemuria . When a music perosn tells you that you might really like something that he/she seems to hold no personal stake in, it's usually a good idea to check it out. And so check them out I did. And oh, how I did (and still do) love "Hours." I loved it so much, [...]
