A collection of holiday mashups produced by some of the best bastard pop producers on the earth.

Good evening, ladies and gentleman. I am Untra, a longtime reader of Ilictronix, an avid fan of house music, and a guy whose whole life has been consumed by videogames. As any avid music fan will tell you, guitar hero does an awful job portraying the rock and roll culture due to poorly representing how one would actually play the guitar, especially on the easier settings. Regrettably, this can also be said for DJ Hero in regards to the clubbing scene. DJing is a difficult task that involves manipulating multiple elements of the music while keeping the provided [...]
OK... so it's been a while since our last post. We haven't given up on the blog or the great music out there; we just wanted to pay respect to our close friend, Robbie (whose favorite time of year was October/November). To ease back into things, I'm going to post a simple mix of mashups. But don't worry, I have a lot of built up inventory in the queue. Enjoy! Shoulders above his contemporaries, Bootie Boston resident DJ Lenlow commands multiple sources into superjams that I'm almost reluctant to call "mashups"- his reconstitutions of the familiar transcend the genre's typical A+B format to create wholly original tracks that taste more like a dance friendly Negativland than fellow buffet-style samplers Immuzikation or Girl Talk. Lenlow's "Do Your Thing to the Music" is a kaleidoscopic prize, as natural a single as Sly & The Family's pop breakthrough first was back in 1968. In fleshing the song out with psychedelic soul homage acts like Basement Jaxx and MGMT, [...]

This weekend I'm going to pretend that I am a vice unit detective, and stalk a murderous coke baron from across the club while everyone around me dances to the new Lenlow jam, completely oblivious to how steely and determined I am to bring this monster to justice. One more belated entry for Muppet Covers Week... this should've gone up yesterday, but churning out these daily posts was wearing me out. A quick round-up of last week's posts: Day 1: It's Time to Play the Music... Day 2: The Muppet Movie Day 3: Songs From the Street Day 4: Covers by Muppets & Friends Day 5: The Batman Connection Day 6: Pinball Number [...]
Marley was dead, to begin with. There is no doubt whatever about that. The register of his burial was signed by the clergyman, the clerk, the undertaker, and the chief mourner. Scrooge signed it. And Scrooge's name was good upon 'Change, for anything he chose to put his hand to. Old Marley was as dead as a door-nail. Wait. Wrong story. So, I'm sorry I haven't written anything all week. I'm
Last night I became acutely aware of the number of covers of the Strokes' Last Nite there are.... I'm working on a couple more substantial posts, so let this tide you over until then. Well, I'm back from rainy California. Turns out sunny California was a myth, in January at least. When you fly south for the winter you're supposed to fly way farther south. Most of the time I was there mini waterfalls gushed off the curbs and each night I'd come back to the hotel and hang up my pants to dry overnight. When I got home Tuesday night I was warmly welcomed by a parade of snow and -31ºC feels like -40 temperatures. Incidentally, -40 is where Fahrenheit and Celsius meet to hang out and drink [...]
Well, if you didn't know, The Boston Red Sox won the World Series for the Second Time in Four Years. Yes, it's true. During the playoffs, the awesome DJ Lenlow made this fantastic mashup (my favorite of 2007, actually). It features: The Standells - Dirty Water Jonathan Richman & the Modern Lovers - New England Big D & the Kids Table - New England Aerosmith - Walk This Way Boston - More Than a Feeling J Geils Band - Centerfold Six songs -- and it works! Really, really, really, really, really well. [...]
With all the recent love for Peter, Bjorn & John comes this excellent mashup from one of the best bootleggers around, Lenlow . It creates a great setting with the only song that really mattered from the Trainspotting soundtrack (OK, "Lust For Life" counts too) with "Born Slippy" and uses the infamous whistle-loop from "Young Folks." Plus, the title and combination are simply brilliant. Lenlow "Bjorn Slippy" Additional Lenlow Audio Here [...]

Anyone who tells you that passing a kidney stone hurts ain't kidding. Just got out of the hospital 'cause apparently mine's bigger than the law will allow. Wish I could say I had this medical procedure, but mine wasn't near so pleasant. So, while I wait, to take my mind off it, I figured I'd throw y'all a gonzo post while I watch Highlander for the upteenth time. I never get sick of this movie. THE DEARS HAVE GROWN ON ME WITH TIME I enjoyed The [...]

Just like he did last holiday season , Somerville knob-twiddler Bob Cronin (dj BC) has compiled another sackful of Christmas mash-up cheer. Grab ?em and unwrap ?em. Grab that torrent and unwrap ?em. For Santastic II: Clausome! , dj BC enlisted his favorite bastard pop auteurs from the [...]
You probably don't listen to too much children's music if you don't have to. But dig: This one and (possible only) mashup by PF (who may or may not be from San Francisco) is one of my favorites, a LOL-out loud funny pairing of two of the most unlikely songs to ever be conjoined: The Normal's 1977 dark, droning, proto-industrial classic "Warm Leatherette," and kiddie-music star Raffi's typically
Here we go with a look at John Sakamoto 's Anti-Hit List for August 12 as seen in the Toronto Star . First is Ray LaMontagne with the song "Three More Days" from his forthcoming album, "Till The Sun Turns Black". A really nice laidback funk/soul song. Kind of caught me by surprise but I'm really liking it. You can stream it off his Myspace page . Next we have a band out of Brampton called Five Blank Pages . I think I remember reading about [...]
