Back

Back It's been a while... I guess for long periods of this year there has been little in the way of new music that has really excited me. Much of my time has been invested in some fantastic re-issues, The Beatles re-masters, the Neil Young Archives and the amazing Big Star box ' Keep An Eye On The Sky ' to name but three. Anyway, to cut a rather dull and pointless story on the meaninglessness of existance short, I am back and this time I hope to actually deliver a consistent number of posts before I lose faith again. Sampler Daze: The WB/Reprise Loss Leaders, Part 10

Sampler Daze: The WB/Reprise Loss Leaders, Part 10 The world in 1976 looked and sounded a heck of a lot different than it did in 1969. When you went to a club it was most likely a fern bar. The ladies wore hot pants and halter tops, men wore stacked heels and checkered pants. The 1970s had its own stupid haircut: the shag (later replaced by another all-star stupid haircut, the mullet). Music was becoming more rhythmic and slick, it would be another year or so before we'd call it "disco." Music more often than not was made for dancing - even at a fern bar. [...]

Wild Wild Horses

Wild Wild Horses Well. There goes another of my favourite tracks that I can never listen to again in the same way. Hot on the heels of one reality TV star's murdering of ' Hallelujah ' comes the news that oor ain wee Susan Boyle, SuBo to the rest of the world, will be releasing her own version of The Rolling Stones ' 'Wild Horses' . It's leaked online and it's eh, no' as bad as you might think. Aye! A sweeping-stringed, soulful and passionate, inner-demon bearing affair, on first listen it actually brought a tear to my eye. Ray Charles - Song For You (avec Leon Russell et Willie Nelson) (live)

Ray Charles - Song For You (LIVE - with Leon Russell & Willie Nelson)

Cover Wars: A Hard Rain's Gonna Fall Edition

Cover Wars: A Hard Rain's Gonna Fall Edition Navigating traffic on the way to Phish at Jones Beach last Friday, myself and four friends in the car started naming a bunch of great "rain" related Phish songs that could be played in honor of the impending weather. They didn't play any of our ideas. Though I did take away my next selection for CW and that is this song off of the 1963 album The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan . Every webpage out there supplying information on this song is quick to point out that the structure of the lyrics [...]

Leon Russell: 1970-11-21 in New York, NY (partial)

Leon Russell: 1970-11-21 in New York, NY (partial) Yesterday was the first day since I started this site that I didn't post anything. Yes, I took a day off and just did nothing. Waitaminute, scratch that... I bought some dominos and tried to do a really cool domino setup, but alas... those things are HARD to do. Kudos to people who set up like 5,000 dominos... I first became aware of the name Leon Russell when I discovered Joe Cocker's stellar Mad Dogs and Englishmen album. This 40+ member band was apparently put together by Russell, and to many, Russell was THE [...]

LEON RUSSELL Continues On With Tour and New Release

MUSIC NEWS - The veteran singer/ songwriter, multi-instrumentalist Leon Russell is back on the road as well as prepping another album release ( BEST OF HANK WILSON , out June 23, 2009, order below).
