First off we have a new track from Carl Hauck called "Windjammer" - it is the title track to his upcoming November album. You might remember Hauck from a couple of posts we previously had (see here and here ) and as expected we are getting some fine acoustic goodness. This one is pretty light and airy (no pun intended) and may seem too delicate to some. I have found myself immersed in a full inbox of music again (there are worse things), but I tend to get muddled in it all instead of casually floating among fantastic sounds and beats. Leonard Mynx is following up his debut EP with another free album entitled Le Petit Mort . Offering free music to find your fanbase was a marketing tactic also used by Joe Pug and it undoubtedly helped him in with ticket sales as he started touring. Perhaps Mynx has a similar strategy. Leonard Mynx is an acoustic storyteller you've never heard of. His words are the centerpiece in his music and the guitar, mandolin, strings and piano carry them like a leaf on the wind. His music has a dreamy quality, perfect for a nap in the park on one of these fast approaching fall days. I didn't dig into his bio because I'd prefer to let the music seep in without preconceptions. You can see Leonard Mynx ( MySpace ) walking down a back-country road somewhere along the great flat expanse that is central U S of A. You can see him wandering along forgotten foothills and through green spring mountain passes. Such is the visualization that accompanies artists fitting the Americana genre, and Mynx is of course no exception. His songs speak volumes of journal entries scribbled in the wanderer's notebook. Leonard Mynx is a singer-songwriter who's also a story teller of a rare breed. Based in Portland, Oregon, Mynx has a talent to enchant his listeners as he leads them through some dark and half familiar paths. Though the songs in his debut LP, Vesper , appear to be sombre and somewhat stark, they also portray a sense of quiet truth and dignity emanating. On some songs the resemblance in style to a young Leonard Cohen is discernible; in others, the darkness issuing the narrated story cloaks Mynx in timelessness.
