Yesterday, Les Claypool used his Facebook Page to offer up a chance for his followers to join in on the reality show he's making with Ween guitarist Mickey "Dean Ween" Melchiondo. If you recall, we've been tracking the progress of the show which is currently in production and will feature Les's fishing and musical hi-jinks with Deaner. Primus front man Les Claypool brought his Duo De Twang acoustic duo to New York City last night for a gig at the Gramercy Theatre. Claypool welcomed his friend and reality TV show co-star Mickey "Dean Ween" Melchiondo out for a cover of Battle of New Orleans. [Photo via Larry Ferrari of Ween Forum] Deaner returned later to provide backing vocals during a raucous version of Pipeline and finished the night by adding some solos to the Duo's take on Cocaine Blues. Folk / pop singer-songwriter Josh Rouse performs at World Cafe Live tonight. The Nebraska native, who now lives in Spain, is touring behind his recent The Happiness Waltz release. Throughout his career, Rouse has perfected an up-tempo-but-hushed sound that makes his recordings both inviting and intimate. Waltz returns Rouse to his English language roots after 20102s bi-lingual El Turista effort. Tickets and information for tonight's show with Eleni Mandell can be found here . Below, watch his new film [...]

Earlier this year we reported on a reality show starring Les Claypool and Mickey "Dean Ween" Melchiondo that will “fuse sportfishing with music and comedy.” It's now been over two months since the news broke about the project, so we did a little digging to see where we're at. Early last month Deaner posted a report on his MickeysFishing.com site in which he reveals that he spent three days filming the pilot with Claypool in Fort Lauderdale... From Austin I went [...]

This past Saturday and Sunday, I made my way to the latest installment of my favorite local festival, the 10th annual McDowell Mountain Music Festival , this year taking place for the first time at Margaret T. Hance Park in downtown Phoenix. To set the scene, the park sits on top of Interstate 10 just north of downtown proper (the aptly named Deck Park Tunnel runs right under it). It’s a nice expanse of green in the midst of the concrete jungle. On the outskirts of the park were a few vacant lots, a fair share of [...]
Les Claypool jams with Jerry Cantrell in a pretty acoustic setting, and it is awesome as hell. Apparently Les Claypool has been doing something called Duo de Twang with Marc Haggard of M.I.R.V., but that's hardly news. What is, however, is that Jerry Cantrell decided to sit in with the guys and jam on some ...

I'd sooner dine on deer ass than review a band like Primus these days, not because I dislike them at all but because that's just not my area of expertise any more (whereas if you, say, have a 200-run LP ... Continue reading

Back in the early '00s The Police drummer Stewart Copeland formed a band called Oysterhead with fellow "alpha musicians" Les Claypool of Primus and Trey Anastasio of Phish. Recently, Copeland invited Claypool and the current incarnation of Primus to his Sacred Grove studio for a jam session. Copeland has just posted a short segment from their jam session to his official YouTube page . Take a look at this incredibly weird vid which includes Copeland on trombone for part of it... [...]
Filed under: News , Holy Hell Matt Archer, Getty Images A breakup will make you do some crazy shit. Mickey Melchiondo, aka Dean Ween, has gone fishing. Literally. Since the breakup of weirdo rock group Ween , Melchiondo has been fishing the waters off the Jersey Shore. He has a charter boat and takes fans and fishing fiends out to grab a catch all the time. But Hurricane Sandy [...]

Arizona's own McDowell Mountain Music Festival marks its 10 year anniversary in just a couple of months (March 22-24) with a stellar lineup - arguably the strongest lineup in its decade long run. I've made it very clear over the years that MMMF is hands-down my favorite music event in old AZ. I've attended every one of them since 2007, when I watched in awe as Aaron Neville and his brothers belted out "Tell It Like It Is." From its earlier years at Scottsdale's spacious Westworld complex (2004-2009) to the [...]

Back during a time where nearly every music video that was being conceived & aired was being perceptively made - and certain video directors and artists went that extra mile to support and to tell their own individual story within their music video that matched, complimented or re-enhanced that already created buzz of that originally penned song.. the mere thought of MTV selling its root core ideal out with the approval of such programmes as Teen Mom, Jersey Shore and 16 & Pregnant, was only a mere twinkle in a snotty nosed baby’s eye. Alternative, indie and ferociously rock-minded, [...]

To wit, this wknd I was veggin' out w buds who regularly watch one of those unscripted shows on basic cable about picking through junk for treasure; y'know, American Cockroach or whatever. "You would like at least [...]

Les Claypool of Primus will be auctioning one of his primary basses to benefit his baby nephew Matthew, as well as Matthew's family. Two years ago, two-month old Matthew was diagnosed with a rare form of infant leukemia. Matthew is currently undergoing bone marrow transplant therapy at St. Jude's Hospital in Memphis, TN. "Watching my younger brother and his wife go through one of the most heart aching situations that any parent can endure has been gut-wrenching," Claypool said. "On top of that there is the unbelievable expense of the treatments ($80,000 for one particular shot alone and Matthew needed [...]
