The SXSW is a little over a month away and the closer we get to the date the more bands that get confirmed to play. Today we have a whole bunch of new bands set to play the week-long festival set to take place in Austin, Texas from March 17-21. Among the confirmed acts are She & Him , Spoon , Broken Social Scene , and Les Savy Fav . Fucked Up , !!! , Cold Cave , and the Drums have [...]
This man (dressed as a monkey):played this venue (an opera house): Ok, let's back up a little. For those of you who've never experienced the spectacle of a Les Savy Fav show, Friday night's show at the Brooklyn Academy of Music opera house (BAM) was an unconventional place to start. These art-punk guys have been at it for over a decade and are consummate pros at infusing rock with DIY theatrics

Tim Harrington came onstage in purple tights. He had clothespins fastened tightly to his beard like a Walmart witchdoctor and sported a tan tunic. This latter didn't last long though, as Tim prefers to put his corpulent belly front and center. Tim didn't say a word, and his band was nowhere to be seen. Instead, he silently danced around the stage for four or five minutes, leaping and twirling and stopping short and glaring at the audience. The macabre ballet soon entered the aisles, Tim waltzing up and down with entranced gazes trailing in [...]

If you have, do I really need to explain why you should go to Brooklyn Academy of Music tonight? Monday: Bottle Up & Go + No Place @ The Studio at Webster Hall 8pm FREE [ info ] There really is no better way to kick off a week than to have the opportunity to catch a free show! Tonight's free performance come courtesy of Bottle Up & Go and up-and-comers No Place. We are only vaguely familiar with No Place, but Bottle Up & Go played last year's After the Jump Fest and were a pretty solid act from what I remember. All though I was pretty wrecked at that point so [...]

Filed under: News , UK Local Natives' first album is yet to even be released in the band's, um, native United States, but that hasn't stopped the Los Angeles-based quintet keeping half an eye on changing things up for their follow-up effort. "We're focused on evolving, at least I would like to think so," singer-guitarist Taylor Rice tells Spinner in an exclusive chat following the group's sold out show at Amsterdam's famous Paradiso club on Thursday night (Jan. 21). In fact, according to the band, 'Gorilla Manor' -- which was [...]

Love 'em or hate 'em, Vivian Girls are about to head back out onto the road for a trek to SXSW and back. Kicking off in their native Brooklyn with a show at BAM's Howard Gilman Opera House with Les Savy Fav , the band will be touring for a two weeks in February, take a short break, and then hit the road again in March. In addition, the girls are prepping a two song iTunes exclusive single (though there seem to be plans to release it on vinyl as well), which will be released on February [...]

I am not adding a picture, this is straight business. I found an old Ipod the other day and I thought I would share some of my favorite lost tunes of the 00's. What follows are those tracks which may have slightly fallen under the radar. Just like Goose said, ...
Hellbender , for this writer, has always been more connected to personal memories than the love of the actual music. Listening to the band I am reminded of inside jokes, handmade t-shirts, missed opportunities. Even now, sitting at my desk listening to Hellbender, I am transported back to community college (Jealous?), skipping class, watching friends smoke, and thinking about my new girlfriend (now my wife of seven years!). Of the bands three albums and numerous EPs I only really love one release, 1997's Con Limon . On Con Limon you can see the three members [...]

Easily my favorite of the three episodes so far. Having Les Savy Fav guaranteed that wrenches would be thrown in the proceedings, with frontman Tim Harrington turning Sam Mason's living room into his own private art performance. Whether it was writhing over one of the guests or taking a mid-song shower, Harrington made sure this DWTB would not be ordinary. "I don't overdrink, except when I'm on a food show." - Tim Harrington It helps as well that the menu tonight was something my mouth waters for: Jerk Pheasant, Mofongo and some crazy Mai Tais. The [...]

Just a head's up to all of you who can still afford premium channels, IFC's "Dinner With The Band" will feature Les Savy Fav tonight! Check out the official IFC site HERE . Previous guests with Chef Sam Mason include Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings. Great music and delicious, easy to make recipes. Word on the street is Les Savy Fav will be performing an oldie, and favorite of mine, "Rome" on tonight's episode. I really like the idea of the show, but it makes me think of this wonderful blog . [...]
Finger on the Pulse 's Dinner With the Band has been rocking the airwaves for the past few weeks. Tonight's episode features Brooklyn based Les Savy Fav !
Enjoy their brilliant rendition of 'Rome' below. Learn all about DWTB here. MP3: Les Savy Fav - Precision Auto

So the IFC channel has this really neat show coming up in April 2010 called Dinner with the Band , where different indie bands talk, cook, and play with a supremely-hot NYC chef, Sam Mason . However, episode snippets are being shown as a precursor ever Tuesday night at 11 pm, from now through 12/29. This week's guest will be Les Savy Fav where they'll be getting down with "Yawn, Yawn, Yawn," and "Bringing Us Down," and cooking up Les Savy Pheasant (Jerk Pheasant) with a side order of Mason Mofongo (fried green plantains [...]
The critical talk (and rock) show Spectacle: Elvis Costello with... is back for its second season this Wednesday, starting out the gates strong with U2 's Bono and the Edge. Costello, who likens his role on the series to that of "a carnival barker," works his charms to both shrink Bono's ego and turn the Edge into a comedian (sort of). "I remember the first time I ever heard you in person... and I heard this sound -- I mean, I have to be honest, I didn't know what the [...]
