A monumental oversight in the operation of Macktronic is that approximatley 243 days have elapsed on the calender without a single track posting from Les Savy Fav, the best band in the world. With a new album on the much-anticipated horizon, it's only fitting that we lay down some of our favorites for the world to hear. ::: Les Savy Fav - Who Rocks The Party (f/ Cat & The Cobra) ::: Les Savy Fav - Our Coastal Hymn (f/ Inches) ::: Les Savy Fav - Hide Me From Next February [...]

Last week jefitoblog ran a Pocket Guide to the Hooters , and perusing it took me all the way back to like grade school. Before the jefitopost, I couldn't have named a song by the Hooters. So why the time-travel? It's mostly a trick of how music can get stapled to the extras in the movie of yr life. The grade school association: I could swear they were the favorite band of one of the most popular kids in my class, a dude with the unfortuate last name of Ducharme (you guessed it, "Douche" for [...]

Happy Valentine's Day to all of our readers out there today. Those of you in relationships, have a romantic day. Those of you single, well, there's always champagne. Here is a smattering of songs from some of our favorite artists that are moderately Valentine's-related. Les Savy Fav - We'll Make A Lover Of You TV on the Radio - I Was A Lover Death From Above 1979 - Romantic Rights (Erol Alkan's Love From Below Re-Edit) husband&wife - You [...]

You heard it. They're back. Les Savy Fav. The post-punk/jazz/funk/indie/what ever smash hit beat combo that beat the shit out of just about any other band in the world that share their influences. It has been SIX years since their last full length, 2001's wonderful Go Forth , and three years since the release of their last single (compiled of course on the Inches compilation, THREE whole years ago). However May will see them returning to these shores to play the looking-better-every-minute All Tomorrow's Parties VS The Fans festival (I WILL BE THERE), and [...]

I got hit on my bike riding to work for the first time this morning. Nothing too bad, just some scrapes, but still kinda crazy just in that I got knocked off and was lying in the middle of the street for a moment there. Not my fault, a girl making a right turn on a red hit me in the cross-walk. Before impact I yelled for her attention, but she just kept going and I couldn't get out of the way quick enough. Don't worry, I'm fine (she seemed more emotionally rattled than I was physically). The bike is [...]
This week, the culture of me brings you more gifts of unrelenting awesomeness. It's been quite a crazy week for dear ole that dude jeff (you'd be surprised how badly I've wanted to just sleep through the whole lot of it), so be sure you get crrrrrazy this weekend for me for sure. If you're in NYC, hit up Tiswas 2.0 cause they're always so darned cute and cuddly, even when some bridge and tunnel kid is puking on your adidas's. Otherwise, I'll have more for you in the coming days (ooh ooh, maybe even [...]
Is this prediction really all that far-fetched? And after the ginormous case of work-stoppage blue balls we're sporting thanks to some fickle journo types, we need the genuine article now more than ever. We're talking about a city whose fragile stability depends upon organized labour keeping their pimp hand strong and oppressive. Indecision is a sign of weakness, and the Inquirer/Daily News fiasco of '06 has surely left all the Local 257's and 313's scrambling for somebody fill the power vaccuum and restore the natural order of things...

I'm pulling an all-nighter tonight in preparation for my trip to Seattle for the holidays. But unlike in college where my all-nighters were usually thanks to ridiculous amounts of fun (I only ever pulled one or two all-nighters because of work that was due), I'm staying up because it just seems easier, as I need to leave my house around 5 am, didn't sleep much last night and have packing to do. It's funny how the context of things changes so quickly. Staying up used to feel like an exciting decision, and now it's something I feel I have to [...]
New York City - On November 7th, 2006 a group of scenesters, art-kids, and yuppies gathered at The Museum of Modern Art for a special event from LVHRD (a vowel-fearing organization powered by Happy Corp that puts on random, avant garde events around the city). I showed up partly because I was intrigued by the whole "CLL-PHN-LCKN" aspect and mostly because Les Savy Fav were not-so-secretly performing (the organizers played it up as if this wasn't even the main attraction). The sold-out event (an open bar for [...]

Editor's Note: This post was written by Mark DeVito of San Francisco's Low Red Land . It is part of a series of posts that the band will be writing for the site today. At the bottom of the page, you can find the links to the rest. My name is Mark, and I play drums in Low Red Land . I am lucky to have the opportunity to do what I love with people I love. I [...]
Yeah you read right, fuck 'Night of the Living Dead'* its shit, as zombie films go its tame and boring. 'Zombi 2' (or 'Island Of The Flesh-Eaters', 'Zombie Flesh Eaters', whatever they call it in... Lots and lots of covers posts rolling around the internet these days. As you well know, I'm a big fan of song titles. One thing that I particularly love is when songs have the same title but are completely different. Sometimes I run across this phenomena and one of the songs sucks, but this is not the case here. Three excellent songs all called "Wake Up" by three excellent bands. Thought it would be appropriate for gateway-to-the-weekend day. ::: Les Savy Fav - Wake Up! [...]

The blog Macktronic has posted some mp3s of Les Savy Fav ... here . Downloadables: "Tragic Monsters" "Reprobate's Resume" "Crawling Can Be Beautiful" BONUS: "We've Got Boxes" (mp3)

Earlier this summer, Les Savy Fav bassist Syd Butler revealed that him and the fellas had designs on recording a new album in November for a March/April release. This kind of news is a major blip on my life radar. LSF is solidly in the all-time Top 5 of macktronic. Go Forth is their latest proper full-length (originally out in 2001), not counting the 7-inch compilation ( Inches ) released last year. I will always remember this album since I listened to in (almost) non-stop during a marathon drive from [...]
