In a little more than a week's time we will be CMJ-ing our asses off once again! Hopping from club to club, catching the buzziest buzz bands of them all, and sipping on as much free booze as our livers can take! Of course the week wouldn't be complete without our own day time party!... Read More
Shit, we just cannot get enough of Les Vinyl right now. They've been "Band of the Week", they've had a "Total Run Time" post, they played what was supposed to be our goodbye show, and we still find ourselves drooling over ever second of music they release. This week that comes in the form of... Read More

Well, it's almost time for 2nd Northside Festival , during which The L Magazine takes over the Williamsburg and Greenpoint music venues for a few days. The Northside Festival will feature over 300 bands this year. Some relatively big names are playing ( Liars , The Fiery Furnaces , Fucked Up , Polvo ). But what this is really about is the chance to see lots of bands in small venues. It's an indie music overdose. You can get an idea of what it's like by listening to this radio [...]
Monday: Love As Laughter @ Bruar Falls 8pm $8 [ info ] In a world of passing fads and buzz bands isn't it nice to know there are still life long indie rockers such as Love As Laughter making music? It warms our hearts every time we see their name mentioned somewhere and this week they stop by NYC for a quick show at Bruar Falls. Chance are it won't be that quick and it will totally be worth skipping the 24 series finale for. [...]

I realize I have been a bit flaky in the past whenever I have "promised" a monthly series of shows. Laziness is an innate aspect of my personality, but I am pleased to announce today a Pop Tarts Suck Toasted showcase for the second month in a row! That's a start and we're hoping to keep things going for at least a few months in a row (we already have a June date!). After last month's truly fun times at Glasslands we are moving to a slightly more intimate space this month (and next month) in Greenpoint's [...]

The music scene here on Staten Island is often referred to as a very insulated, occasionally incestuous place where band members take part in so many different projects it will make your head spin. There are some good things about this, but in all honesty all the various projects are getting a little confusing these days trying to keep up with who's playing with whom and what they're calling themselves these days. Casey Jost is a member of all this confusion. Taking part in the "scene" with is improv comedy group Mancrsuh (which also has my brother Tim as a [...]
Monday: Nous Non Plus @ Mercury Lounge 7pm $10 It's not every day you come across a faux French band that actually takes the whole idea to heart, but Nous Non Plus are the real deal. With fake French names the New York natives re-create 60's style Parisian tunes and do so wonderfully despite being a bit tongue in cheek through it. Still, these tunes are pretty great and should not be missed. Nous Non Plus - "Fantome Dur (Tuff Ghost)" Tuesday: Fake Male Voice @ Glasslands 9pm $tba [...]
Friday night a couple of bands from Staten Island took over the upstairs lounge at Pianos and absolutely killed it! This is the first, a band called Les Vinyl, and this was my first exposure to them. Forget for a moment that they covered Kanye West's "Heartless" which was immediately endearing, but this duo (normally just the lead singer Casey Jost) was witty and melodic and freaking excellent. I was shocked to see it, but pleasantly surprised. I'll definitely have more on Les Vinyl in the near-ish future!!!
