Yo Gabba Gabba! was the musical guest on tonight's Late Night with Jimmy Fallon , and DJ Lance and the crew was joined by Bootsie Collins , The Roots , Erykah Badu , Biz Markie, Mark Mothersbaugh, Leslie Hall and more... I don't know about you, but I have the sudden urge to party... today. Related posts: Video: Beastie Boys - "So What'cha Want" (with The Roots) [...]
Click here to view the embedded video. A few minutes into the new sci-fi show The Multinauts , I realized I was watching what would soon become an instant indie favorite. The adventure series revolves around three improbable heroes from varying ares of the universe, brought together in order to save the Multiverse from villain Oysters Rockafeller. They travel about on their trusty and wise starship Tetra, which guides them through hairy situations thanks to its vast knowledge gathered from "the elders". [...]
It's the time of year again - that magical, innocent time when stuffing your face with sugary goodness until your stomach needs to be pumped and wearing slutty outfits are encouraged (I'm personally brainstorming a slutty dinosaur-riding jesus costume). Whether you plan to throw a party, watch plenty of awesome movies, or just head out on the streets to openly roll your eyes at the plethora of

I don't even know where to begin....this show is BANANAS!!! Hosted by a human character named DJ Lance Rock, the series features a mix of live-action segments featuring cartoonish costumed characters--Muno (the red cyclops), Foofa (the pink flower bubble), Brobee (a little green monster), Toodee (the blue cat-dragon) and Plex (the yellow robot)--and many short animated sketches and musical numbers. In its first two seasons, the show featured a wide variety of guests, including Jack Black, Leslie Hall, The Shins, Tony Hawk, Elijah Wood, Biz Markie, The Roots and Chromeo....just [...]

Legendary independent music store Amoeba Music in San Francisco is in the midst of its third annual Amoeba Art Show and Silent Auction, and this year Devo's Mark Mothersbaugh and director David Lynch have both donated original works to the event. The proceeds from the show and auction, as always, will go to the charities of choice for the participating artists. In addition to Mothersbaugh and Lynch, the show also features art from more than 60 Amoeba employees from all three locations - Hollywood, San [...]

I had originally hoped to start the new year here with another "Best beats" post similar to last year's , but as I went to work on the year-end summary, the list format just wasn't working for me.. I was fortunate enough to engage with art of so many different varieties in the past year, that a bulleted list just didn't seem to do it justice. Here's my attempt at encapsulating a banner year of artistic appreciation chronologically-ish. Jens Lekman owns. (Photo from Myspace) When I began [...]

We just received some new music in the inbox from an artist named Disaster Radio who resides in New Zealand. His 2008 Eurovisions Tour EP is comprised of minimal electro tunes that could easily serve as the soundtrack to any Turbo Graphix game. Beyond 2000 is my favorite track on the EP. It's a short, straightforward, classic example of a good instrumental crescendo, which is nice to hear nowadays because a lot of similar songs seem overproduced or they drag on for way too long, this one is nice and concise. The other four songs are [...]

I raised all of you better than this. Here is all the wrongness which you allowed to happen during my recent sabbatical: 1. You encouraged Leslie Hall to channel her inner Roches (but at least she possesses a much better fashion sense). 2. You catipulted Santogold into the charts simply for emulating M.I.A. when, in reality, she is also [...]

I was recently given the opportunity to check out the huge shindig that was BUST Magazine's 15th anniversary party. The goodie bags were intensely GOOD, including surprises from Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab and Babeland (one guess!), among others. There was a dance party with stilt walkers and random run-ins with both JD Samson (of [...]
Let's talk about this. (Ian Anderson)
