We know you've all been planning your TX days and nights without worrying about the Levi's®/FADER Fort , because you already knew that it's all day, every day from Wednesday, March 18 through Saturday, March 21. And we know you already had planned to be there regardless, you were just waiting to hear where it is and who would be there. Well, now you know. This year we'll be holing up at a new Fort, on 1101 E. 5th Street (between San Marcos & Waller), and the only way to get in [...]

The Pains of Being Pure at Heart played to a sold-out crowd at the Bell House this past Friday night. I wasn't sure what to expect, especially since these guys were unknown just a few months ago. They seemed really, really thankful and a bit staggered by their sudden popularity. As soon as they picked up their instruments and began strumming the first chords, it was clear that they put a lot of time into getting the infectious tone of their album to translate to a live setting. It sounded good, and I was impressed. The immediate energy and [...]

There is so much going on this pre-SXSW weekend! Lots of bands play in NYC to get ready for the big week ahead. This Friday there's tons of great bands to choose from: Les Savy Fav at Brooklyn Masonic Temple and even Titus Andronicus and The Wrens on one bill. But, I have to whole-heartedly recommend the show that I will be attending, The Pains of Being Pure at Heart at The Bell House. With their pop-sensibilities and Pitchfork praise, it's likely that this band could be the Fleet Foxes of last year. See them at a small [...]

I've been hearing a lot about Let's Wrestle recently. I was a bit reluctant to check them out because they've been so buzzy, but once I saw that the first song on this British band's MySpace was called "I Wish I Was In Husker Du." Yes! Grade-A rock reference . They play Brit rock with swagger- think a little bit of Art Brut minus the sarcasm and with less conventional tunes. You should check them out tomorrow in Hoboken, along with This Bike Is A Pipebomb . I'm looking forward to seeing them at the Bell House [...]

I've been a bit busy this week preparing for SXSW. I want to bring you the very best coverage I can (partying it up with Racheal Ray and The Hold Steady) so I've been lacking a bit on the writing this week. I'd like to attempt to make it up to you by putting together this list of mp3s from the SXSW website of bands playing at the festival. There are hundreds of songs available, and I've just gone through and chosen a few that I really like. In case you only have time for a few, I've put *'s [...]

No matter how many records I buy I can't fill this void The mantra of the music blogger? Let's Wrestle are a band that have been on my radar for some time now, yet I never seemed to get the chance to write about them. In that spirit, it's now over a year since their first proper EP, In Loving Memory Of... was released, so I'm a little behind the times. It doesn't matter too much though as I Won't Lie To You , as well as the [...]

In honor of last night's BRIT awards, we've gone all U.K., all the time with this week's New Music Thursday picks. Up now is a sloppy little garage-pop trio from London we've been following called Let's Wrestle who might just be headed to a town (or an Austin music festival) near you soon. Let's Wrestle has this casual sound that sort of mimics that dressed-down style where you're trying to say to the world, hey. I didn't really try or anything, but I look good in a [...]

AMERICA – I Guess I'm Floating Here We Go Magic – Tunnelvision Brooklyn's Here We Go Magic is the bedroom folk-pop project of Luke Temple, who is releasing his self-titled debut this year. He has been praised by Sufjan Stevens and Ben Gibbard for his uniquely gorgeous vocals and meticulous lo-fi production aesthetic. Tunnelvision is the first single – one part Shakespearean sonnet and one part circus music, swirling in a beautiful mess of [...]

Here's February's edition of the Music Alliance Pact. For those of you who don't know about MAP, it's a collection of music blogs from around the world who band together once a month to shed light on up-and-comers from their home countries. It's sort of like the WTO without the human rights violations. This month we've welcomed Mexican blog Club Fonograma to bring the total participation to 22 nations. Our contribution this month includes an excellent track from Brooklyn-based Here We Go Magic . Nathaniel's decree has become somewhat [...]

The 15th day of the month means Music Alliance Pact time, when the blogging community comes together to offer up their favourite song for the world's ears. Think of it as the international invasion it's OK to support. Last month we welcomed Babylon Noise to the party - a development so significant it was reported by MTV Romania no less, and with a fair degree of enthusiasm by the young brunette presenter, who is clearly a [...]
