Website Facebook MySpace mp3: [...]

It's hard to imagine that just a few short months ago we were enjoying sunny summer days. 2011 was my best year yet, having achieved a few milestones: four and a half years running FensePost, riding my bike from Seattle to Portland and logging over 1,000 total on those two wheels between January and December, enjoying life with the love of my life (Andi), and a few defining mindset changes that put the two of us on a path to minimalism and frugality. All of this has led to happiness. That the [...]

Note to directors: Never put the one girl with armpit hair up front. Even if, as is most likely the case in the Miden vid, she is your sister. Still a great video, for all the obvious reasons, and our favorite of the week. -Matt

Ever since Letting Up Despite Great Faults unveiled its debut album in 2009, the Los Angeles quintet has been a good bet to satiate fans of shimmering dream-pop. Our money's on the young protagonist in her battle against monsters in Douglas Burgdorff's video for "Sophia in Gold" too. Being sick is terrible. I've been fighting something nasty since Tuesday. Luckily the worst was out of the way fast - after recording a 101 degree temperature Tuesday night, the fever subsided and I've slowly returned to a state that's manageable. I was still a bit stuffed up on the 25th, but by 10pm all that was left was sniffling and the occasional cough - my regular voice was back. On November 25, I decided to do something a little different. Not only would I tell a few stories about [...]

One thing you can always count on with Letting Up Despite Great Faults is their ability to put together an astonishing video. With both "Teenage Tide" and "Our Younger Noise", the band found a great balance between the modern world and fantasy. They do it again with "Sophia In Gold" off their 2011 EP, Paper Crush . Where "Sophia In Gold" differs is that this fantasy world is through the eyes of a child. Directed by Douglas Burgdorff, our hero overcomes the childhood monster-under-bed [...]

I'm not sure how many more adjectives and explanations I can throw at the internet regarding why Letting Up Despite Great Faults are so great. They are one of those bands that can be developed even further with the right people behind them. Not the Lana Del Rey people, I'm talking about people who know good music, people who are dedicated to the artform, and people who are invested in music as much as they are invested in cooking the perfect fried egg. Everything counts. Here's the video for "Sophia in Gold", [...]
