The Scottish Rite Theatre couldn't have been a more perfect setting for Borrisokane 's release of Murdering Teeth this Friday. The stage was an awe to behold with cutout trees of many greens surrounding the bands. Complimentary masquerade masks are amongst the other imaginative details that confettied the night. It was like a scene right out of Peter Pan, contrasting the sheer elegance of Wendy's world with the wonder of Peter's, making you feel like Wendy holding tight to Peter's hand as he shows you Never Never Land. You're flying one minute and missing mommy the next. [...]

There is so much good new local music happening lately; it's a bit overwhelming but it's a good problem to have. Tomorrow at Holy Mountain you can catch the live debut of indie pop/rock quartet Slomo Drags (including members of Cartographers , BOY , and The Couch ). On the bill you'll also find Boy + Kite , who are celebrating the release of their new EP, We Can Go Anywhere We Want (first 30 people to arrive will receive a copy of the new EP), and The Plastic Habit [...]

This coming June, Downtown Pasadena will once again play host to one of my favorite music festivals — Make Music Pasadena . In addition to thirty smaller performance areas, Make Music Pasadena will feature an eclectic five main stage lineup featuring popular acts from around the world. Confirmed acts includes Tanlines , Yacht , Robert DeLong , Hunter Hunted , We are Scientists , Taken by Trees , Simone White , Superhumanoids , Letting Up Despite [...]

As rock n' roll season heads into full swing, it's time we all take advantate of the many shows that are coming our way in the next few months before SXSW hits us hard. Surely you know Ty Segall is playing at the Mohawk on Friday night with Ex-Cult and OBN IIIs , but what else is going on in town? Well, in case Ty isn't your taste, or you can't make it, here's some other show suggestions for a pretty solid weekend in Austin. Friday, January 25th [...]

More week end round up posting, good vibes to download through the Cloud from the recent transplants. Letting Up put on a lovely little set during Free Week . Wife and I chatted with the band after, talking influences, Austin, pressed sandwiches, etc. Velocity Girl

Saturday. End of Free Week 2013... The wife and I decided to hang out at the friendly confines for The Plastic Habits , Letting Up Despite Great Faults and Shivery Shakes , but took advantage of the SxSW atmosphere to pop over to Red7 to catch up with Tiger Waves . The camera came along to... First run through with The Plastic Habits , which isn't surprising given the young age of the project. Jonas from [...]

They say all good things must come to an end. (We don't really believe that, but for the sake of putting a metaphysical slant to a post, we'll claim allegiance.) And, sorry to say, Free Week is no exception. Waah. But instead of bawling, let's go out with a BANG. For tonight, we recommend going Holy Mountain or Red 7 - Zorch , The Boxing Lesson , Boyfrndz , Tiger Waves , and Residual Kid will be doing the free thing [...]
It's time for Free Week to come to a close, but Austin isn't going out without making a final bit of noise for you all. There's two days left of free rock n' roll, so this is your last time to take advantage before you have to start paying to see all these great bands. With two days left I'm going to toss out my ideas on where you should find yourself Friday and Saturday night. Don't forget to tip your bartender! Friday: Riverboat Gamblers , [...]

Continuing the countdown to my favorite record of 2012, today I present numbers 11 through 20. Honorary Mention: Trails And Ways I've already dubbed Trails And Ways one of my favorite new bands of 2012. This statement comes with a disclaimer, as there are plenty of phenomenal new bands scattered throughout my top EPs and LPs lists for 2012: by far my favorite new band without a proper release. With a lone 73 single (I believe) and a few digital singles under their belt (including strong [...]
There were albums I loved, albums I liked, albums I appreciated and albums I avoided in 2012. Because of my regional focus, I spent an inordinate amount of time with music from Los Angeles artists . And strangely for me, a lot of the hyped bands failed to resonate; stuck in traffic, I'd rather have played that Killers album or one of the Green Day discs than Alt-J. I'm sure it was just a phase. For what it's worth, my favorite 20 albums of the year: [...]

The Austin by way of Los Angeles band Letting Up Despite Great Faults may turn out to be your favorite find this year.
It's that time of year folks, when we here at Austin Town Hall try to convince you that we know what's what in the world of music. We're starting things off with our list of Top Ten Austin Albums of 2012. We purposefully left out EPs, just focusing on the Album as a whole, since that's our favorite form of media. Before you read this, please know that this is just the expressed OPINION of ours, and you're definitely cool to disagree. Let us know your thoughts, and make sure your favorite Austin bands send us their hits in 2013! [...]

After the dance party last Wednesday night, Nathan and I decided to go local and take a stab at the new venue living in Beauty Bar's space on 7th, Holy Mountain. The bands on the bill were certainly worth two nights in a row of missing a few hours of sleep. Letting Up Despite Great Faults has one of our favorite local records of the year and She Sir played our SxSW showcase a few years back, even lending gear to use for the night, and have recently busted out a few new tracks. Click through for a [...]

Date Thursday, November 29th Location Holy Mountain Doors 9:00 PM Tickets FREE Listen folks, if you're in Austin, and you consider yourself a music fan, then you have a moral obligation to being at this show.
