The Counting Crows are back on tour with their traveling circus featuring NOTAR and Augustana. The Crows kick things off at Summerfest, which is already ongoing with tons of bands including Earvolution favorite Willy Porter, the Hold Steady, Modest Mouse, Levon Helm and Halestorm. Last year's dates with Michael Franti drew some strong praise, so no surprise Duritz and crew are trying to

I had two options for this week's piece. I could do what I normally do - create as diverse a list of artists as possible or I could just say fuck it and make this one all about Warren Haynes. I have gone with the latter. What we have here is audio from four different sets at this past weekend's Mountain Jam all of which feature Haynes on every track. Next week we will return to our regularly scheduled programming, this week - it's all about Warren. [Thanks [...]

Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News It only took 19 years but Phil Lesh (pictured) and Bob Weir -- both from the Grateful Dead -- will return to Golden Gate Park in San Francisco this August with their latest Dead incarnation, Furthur . Their headlining set will be a part of the third annual Outside Lands Music Festival, which also boasts Sunday night headliners Kings of Leon and anchor bands the Strokes , My Morning Jacket and [...]
Lineup announcements can a tricky thing. Do your standard, let's-post-at-midnight reveal and a festival has the potential of being lost in the shuffle of the 1,100 other festival announcing their lineups on that same day. Do too much and the announcement can leave people turned off, even bitter, especially when the lineup isn't actually worth the fanfare. So far, we've seen one festival use a word puzzle to unveil its 2010 bill. Another held us hostage at our computers for a good 12 hours. A third just made no attempt of fixing its [...]

Last fall, Levon Helm , the former drummer for The Band, was forced into vocal rest after doctors found a non-cancerous lesion on his vocal chords. While the docs kept us from hearing his iconic and instantly recognizable voice, that didn't keep the soon to be 70-year old from occupying his perch behind the drum kit during the frequent Rambles at his home recording studio known as The Barn and occasionally taking the show on the road. Now fully recovered and ready to sing again, Helm has lined up an lengthy summer tour that includes [...]

This makes me very happy, if only because the word "summer" pops up so many times over the course of the zoo's press release. Tickets for the Oregon Zoo's annual summer concert series go on sale Wednesday, April 28 at the zoo or via Ticketmaster. Highlights of the summer concert series include the Levon Helm Band on Aug. 8 and the Swell Season with Black Francis on Aug. 20 . Plus you can take your whole family to see Pink Martini, and everyone loves the B-52s. My mom and I will be hanging out with the inimitable [...]

Editor's Note: We are expanding this feature for this week only, to help call attention to Record Store Day on Saturday. Independent record stores are dying on the vine, go out on Saturday and show ‘em that you love them by purchasing some vinyl. Today we travel about 1,500 miles to the hamlet of Woodstock, New York, comfortably situated in the rustic Hudson Valley north of the Big Apple. Now this isn't the place where the big Woodstock festival took place (that was [...]

![SXSW: Our Most Anticipated Music[ian]-Related Films](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/2312745_lg.jpg)
The annual South by Southwest Music, Film, and Interactive Festival will descend upon Austin, Texas in almost exactly one month from tonight, but aside from a few über-hyped projects, the full film screening list wasn’t fully known until yesterday’s announcement . Though our recent rummaging through the Sundance Film Fest roster proved notably fruitful, SXSW’s lineups kind of pwned it in a way, offering quite the competitive array of music and/or musician-related films for us to ogle. Now we could spit out a whole post for every single one of these, [...]
Continuing with the trend established at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this , the film component of next month's South by Southwest will feature quite a number of musical related picture shows. For one, the newly announced 2010 lineup includes world premieres of a number of documentaries on some familiar favorites, including the Rise, Rise, and Roar (a David Bryne concert film), the 10-years-in-the-making Strange Powers: Stephin Merritt and The Magnetic Fields , Lemmy (Motörhead frontman Lemmy Kilmister), The Weird World of Blowfly (rapper Clarence Reid), and [...]

Joseph Smith was either a prophet of God or a charlatan. He was considered both a man chosen by Jehovah as a modern-day oracle who would lead humanity back to the One True Church and bring about Gods Kingdom on earth, and a philandering con man who abused the trust of his gullible followers by taking a second-rate novel and using it as the basis for his cult of personality. He was a charismatic leader who upon receiving his first Revelation in 1832, managed to spread a new brand of Christianity around the world in just a few short years. [...]

In town last week for the Grammy MusiCares tribute concert for Neil Young (but not the Grammy Awards show ), Wilco stopped by Craig Ferguson's Los Angeles studio to tape a performance of "One Wing" for the Late Late Show . The song appears on Wilco (the Album) which was nominated for the Best Americana Album award that Levon Helm won for Electric Dirt.

Son Volt L to R: Dave Bryson - drums Chris Masterson - lead guitar Jay Farrar - acoustic guitar, piano, harmonica, vocals Andrew Duplantis - bass, harmony vocals Mark Spencer - piano, wurlitzer, pedal steel, lap steel Eleanor Whitmore - violin, viola (not pictured) A truly unexpected pleasure from last year was getting knocked out by Son Volt 's most recent album, American Central Dust . Just when I thought Jay Farrar had disappeared down a mumbly, monotonous rabbit hole, he totally won me back [...]
