You guys, I can't do this anymore. I can't give you descriptions of all these albums and post 30 or 40 MP3s along the way. It just takes too much time and effort. I'll try to make this a little bit more than just a list, because I want it to look a tiny bit [...]

Today's audio selection is a little beguiling to say the least; On first listen my reaction was "What?", on second listen it was "Hmm" and by the fifth listen I was polishing off the lino & laying done some serious head spins (Mentally if not physically). Leyland Kirby 's (Sounds like an old Austin car doesn't it?) 'Intrigue & Stuff Vol 3' certainly is that, it's 'The Watcher & The Watched' that's got us popping our collar; The bastard lovechild of John Carpenter & Throbbing Gristle. One of the best club records In many a [...]

Kitsch? Quatsch...taking ironic noodling & trilling into boombastic outer space: a new Leyland Kirby 7" &, " for those Clayderman moments we all experience from time to time as we struggle for balance " , a tinkling exclusive (not to LMYE, ahem...) linked to his eager to tear apart the stars . Stream all below. Not sure these [...]

There is a new Leyland Kirby album out called 'eager to tear apart the stars'. As usual, listening to it feels like becoming aware of some long overgrown thing becoming slightly dislodged inside of your heart. Treated pianos, sub-aquatic samples, and an all-pervading hiss. It may as well be the net curtain of memory itself, that hiss, whispering across the windows of your mind. he makes his own album artwork does Leyland - hmmm, I just wonder what this huge [...]
In 48 hours I'll be airborne, flying east towards Newark Airport, set to embark on a lengthy trip that will take me from the East Coast of these United States all the way around the world to Delhi, India. To say I'm excited would be the understatement of the year. I'm really, really looking forward [...]

[ History Always Favours The Winners ] In my review of Intrigue & Stuff Vol. 1 , I noted that the more rhythmic, pop- and rock-influences might be shocking to followers of Leyland Kirby's previous work under his own name and as The Caretaker. While Vol. 2 feels more in line with previous efforts, Kirby provides yet another facet of beautiful noise exploration here. Comprised of three songs, two of which clock in at roughly 12 and [...]

Em pouco tempo, Leyland Kirby consolidou nome como um dos mais interessantes artistas a operar na esfera da música ambiental e demais paisagens ainda por catalogar. Um trabalho intenso que adquiriu forma maior através celebrada trilogia Sadly, The Future Is No Longer What It Once Was, de 2009 .

James Leyland Kirby has been incredibly busy this year, with the start of his Intrigue & Stuff 12" series, a beautiful album under his Caretaker moniker and now a proper follow up to Sadly, The Future Is No Longer What It Was under his own name. Gorgeously somber, with Kirby's trademark bits of debris and age clouding the filter, Eager To Tear Apart The Stars lays into your heart, burrowing deep into the most carefully guarded stockpiles of ennui your subconscious has to offer. His deceptively minimalist pieces carry more heft and emotion in [...]

If I've learned one valuable lesson through my work with children who have autism, it's this - patience is a wonderful thing. While it was necessary for sanity in that line of work, it sure isn't necessary in contemporary life. Indeed, impatience has become an acceptable standby mode for most of us, and I'm sure there are many who take pride in their impatience, seeing it as an essential tool in developing certain careers, or as an aide to better services and greater quality of leisure time. So life speeds up into a silly race and everyone seems to be [...]

For many folks a Sunday morning starts with a hot cup of coffee and an a newspaper. For us we like to stroll through the blogoshpere and check out what others are putting out there. This fine day we picked up a pretty rad post by the good folks over at Altered Zones . The track is called Ruined Visions from James Leyland Kirby. Kirby recently released the second of his four volume 12" series under the name Leyland Kirby entitled Intrigue & Stuff. Check it out. [...]

Leyland Kirby — Speeded Up Slow Motion Between his recent (and continually astounding) effort as The Caretaker and the Intrigue & Stuff 12" series, Leyland James Kirby has been tapping into some serious next-level frequencies. Volume 2 of I&S continues this streak with 3 colossally mind-altering compositions, all of which sound like they've been beamed off the deck of a ruined space station. "Speeded Up Slow Motion" is the shortest of the [...]

May has been a busy month of reviews for me. I've had reviews published in three different places: Little White Earbuds , FACT Magazine , and Sonic Router , who I just started writing for. In case anything was missed I wanted to run them down here. SR Mix #83: Dropping Gems (Dropping Gems) — Very proud to organize and publish an interview and mix with the great [...]

Leyland Kirby has brought to tape some of the most essential deconstructed ambient music to date. This is exactly what's surprising about the first entry to a new series he's entitled Intrigue & Stuff . The first of four 12" release, Vol. 1 delves into analog synth tones, skittering beats and even a John Denver reinterpretation? Sure it's a departure but Kirby lends all these idioms his ear for divining sadness and capturing the crumbling edges of emotion. It's some of his most ambitious recordings yet and he proves that no matter what angle he tackles, Kirby is among [...]

Last Wednesday, the Chief Scientist Officer at the Keck II Telescope at Mauna Kea, Hawaii, informed the press of a breach in the Doria Russell (DR) mainframe, a parallel computing cluster that is usually kept offline for security purposes. A computer virus introduced in DR with a corrupted USB stick (the same technique used in Stuxnet's infiltration of the Bushher nuclear power station) took control over its networking functions and granted an as-yet-unidentified party access to its databases – including sensitive records from the SETI programme. Security consultants are currently investigating the incident. In [...]

Illustration by Yehrin Tong [ History Always Favours The Winners ] ( buy vinyl ) The opening sounds of Intrigue & Stuff Vol. 1 might be shocking to fans of Leyland Kirby's previous opus, the three volume Sadly, The Future Is No Longer What It Was . On that follow up to his work as The Caretaker, the former V/Vm explored a stark and post-nostalgic world full of drifting pianos, radio static, and foggy electronics. While [...]

'14 Versions Of The Same EP' is a collaborative music project between husband and wife duo Long Division With Remainders and experimental artists from around the world including Leyland Kirby, Isnaj Dui, BLK w/BEAR and Sone Institute. Basic electronic fumblings were sent to anyone interested, then added to, remixed and known as Version 1, Version 2 etc - before being offered for free download on the LDWR site . An impressive very limited edition box set of Volume One is now on sale with bespoke packaging by Damian O'Hara . MP3: Leyland [...]

Cenk Akyol 's style has always been distinct and his lists picky. Once again he's told us that he wasn't able to find 10 or so releases to enjoy completely this year, so his best of lists consists mostly of songs. His album picks seem to correct some I've done, particularly missing out on Masada and Scanner. He has also justified my selection of In the Country as one of the top albums this year. He's more than 12000kms away in Australia, and I think I haven't seen him for 5 years or so, but we haven't lost that [...]
Leyland Kirby – Sadly, The Future Is No Longer What It Was [...]
