Here at the Needle Drop, we hold somewhat regular sessions over at blogTV where we do live reviews and shoot the ish. Each one is different, but there's a special couple of songs that must be played at nearly every blogTV. One of them is L'Homme RUn's "Pizza Party": Yeah, that's Ezra from Vampire Weekend rapping about pizza. He even throws some verses out in french, too! When it comes to hip hop songs about pizza, this track holds a number one spot in my heart. But now there [...]

Where has all the fun in music gone? There are thousands of bands out there, some that you can't really distinct from another. There are tons of good bands out there, but I feel like a lot of the music is lacking one key ingredient that I know I love to hear in music: Fun. These days, everyone's so focused on finding the best new buzz band that we seem to forget to have fun listening to music. Vampire Weekend's very own Ezra Koenig had the right idea way before he became world famous with Vampire Weekend. [...]

Initial impressions of Vampire Weekend's sound would hardly place them in New York City, where the band originally formed. Lead singer Ezra Koenig and drummer Chris Tomson first joined forces on the comedy rap band L'Homme Run , before creating Vampire Weekend with Chris Baio and Rostam Batmanglij. The influence of African popular music - including Ladysmith, Black Mambazo, and Kanda Bongo Man - can certainly be heard in "Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa" and "Diplomat's Son"; Koenig has also collaborated with Malawian singer Esau Mwamwaya on the title track of The Very Best's Warm Heart of Africa . The duo was called L'Homme Run and he was joined by his college friend Andrew Kalaidjian. If you noticed one of their tracks is titled... Click the link to read more

Well if you are obsessed with Vampire Weekend like me, you have traced their roots pretty deep. Ezra's first journey into the music scene was with his old hip-hop duo "L'Homme Run" which was with his college friend Andrew Kalaidjian. They had a few tracks on their myspace that got them some moderate love, but nothing to the level of Vampire Weekend (obviously). However, there is good reason not to forget about L'Homme Run. As far as I can remember they had a select few tracks on their myspace. I have 4 of them as mp3's [...]

So yeah. This weekend i'm off to see Vampire Weekend play, and Boys Noize slay. You've all heard of them both about a million times on a million blogs. But you might not have heard their rap side projects and other electronic manifestations. Kid Alex - Ja! ( alt link ) Kid Alex [...]
