****************************** ***** "I certainly don't think Thatcher is a feminist icon, she had no interest in social equality" so says Rebecca Stephens after we've conluded our interview and we can't help but think " Ahh, how we've missed you Becki!" So let's recap ! Brighton's polka dot 602s uber girl-group revisionists The Pipettes were undoubtedly great fun but one always suspected they had a time limited appeal and that creatively certain members of the group may have had more offer then forever playing the role [...]

Whilst I thought waking up in a tent was unpleasant at Truck, Summer Sundae's grim Saturday morning made that previous experience seem like waking up in a four-poster. Friday had been a enjoyable introduction to the festival, but especially considering the cancelling bands it felt as though Sundae was yet to really kick off in earnest and we hoped for an impressive showing from Saturday's early bands to wake us up. After a stroll into rainy Leicester for a quick spot of lunch – Sundae's food stalls are not the most affordable – our first trudge through the [...]

You could be forgiven for not knowing 25-year-old Mancunian alternative/folk artist Liam Frost (pictured above), but if you haven't heard of Canadian songstress Martha Wainwright (younger sister of Rufus ), then you must be living under a rock. While Frost (real name Liam Pickering) can easily stand on his own as a singer-songwriter, it's the addition of Wainwright that really makes 'Your Hand in Mine' engaging. Frost was previously hailed by Elbow's Guy Garvey as " the UK's answer to Bright Eyes ." And indeed, Frost's past recordings [...]

It's Christmas again and time for Santa (which is, as you are no doubt aware, an anagram of Satan go figure!) to empty his sack. So to celebrate the season of goodwill to all men the Devil has collected some festive treats for you to digest after your feasting. Go Try MP3 - Ivan Dirtblonde - Christmas Time If anyone from the IFPI is reading this track is linked direct from the Filthy Little Angels site and is therefore [...]

For some artists, three years dominated by broken hearts, the spectre of bereavement and wrangles with their record company would be the perfect excuse to churn out a set of self-pitying songs. But Liam Frost has synthesized his experiences into "We Ain't Got No Money, Honey, But We Got Rain", a brilliantly soulful pop record that mixes sweet melodies with tantalizingly dark undertones. Make no mistake this is a totally fantastic album, right up there with my favourite releases of 2009. Since the release of his 2006 debut, the gloriously haunting 'Show [...]
Manchester has been known for a lot of music. Gloomy post-punk, acid house, "indie dance", even a recent crop of folky goings-on. But Americana? Not much, I'm sure. But then again, to conveniently label Liam Frost with that tag is doing him a dis-service. He's a man who loves music ...

Photography by your boy, Tsuru! TSURUFOTO is now on Etsy! Howdy my friends and welcome to a very special presentation from TSURURADIO! The incomparable TsuruBride & me, her faithful bag boy, are about to head up and out to Chicago's Renegade Craft Fair featuring TsuruBride! for the weekend!!! [...]

Happy Friday, my dear friends... Great ride in after a rough night makes for a much happier Tsuru! Yeah, I still have a broken less than a year old 120gb broken iPod and yeah, I'll have to run up to the dreaded Apple store (i.e. the maaaaaaaall ) and hopefully they'll let me switch out (I REALLY don't want to buy another gadget after dropping C-notes on a new pooter). We'll see... But first, and before we get to today's massive tsuruloosie post, I feel it's necessary to make a slight correction to yesterday's [...]

A selection of nine songs for your long weekend delectation. Enjoy. The Very Best's debut album Warm Heart of Africa is out on the 11th of August and while it's perhaps not as exciting as the mixtape last year, these remixes of the title track which features Ezra from Vampire Weekend are making up for it right now. The Architecture in Helsinki remix is essentially a cover with brass replacing the original's African guitar sample. It's awesome. The Metronomy is equally different taking the a snippet [...]

Yesterday I came across this Liam Frost song courtesy of Ceci and haven't been able to stop listening to it since. I love the uptempo beat and Wainwright's "and when I'm good, I'm only good at sinning" line. Reminds me of the beginnings of a good noir plot going down in a typical suburban 70's living room. MP3: Liam Frost (Feat. Martha Wainwright ) - Your Hand In Mine

~ Liam Frost feat. Martha Wainwright - "Your Hand In Mine" ~ Great upbeat track from Liam Frost's upcoming album We Ain't Got No Money, Honey, But We Got Rain . The song definitely stands on own but the fact that Martha Wainwright appears on it makes it even better. ~ Russian Red - "Cigarettes" ~ Russian Red is actually Lourdes Hernández took her stage name from a lipstick color. This song is - suitably with its title - addictive with it's simple guitar structure [...]

Liam Frost has enlisted Martha Wainwright for support on 'Your Hand In Mine' from his upcoming We Ain't Got No Money, Honey, But We Got Rain , and it's a great combination. The song works really well with Martha on backing vocals, and has gotten me excited for the album proper. Liam had this to say about the album, and working with Martha: "This album has been a long time in the making, and I'm really proud of it. Every hazard that stood in the way of me getting to this stage has now passed, and I [...]

Blimey, it's warm. And bright too! The sun is out and it certainly has got it's hat on. Which means, I don't wish to be sat indoors for too long so this will be just a short post today. But long enough for me to bring you some songs reworkd in an acoustic stylee, perfectting for listening to while stretched out and lazing in the glorius sunshine. Or, as I'm about to do, while sitting in a beer garden. First up is the last track from the Idlewild session I posted a [...]
Liam Frost has a new record. Here's the video of the first single off Show Me How the Spectres Dance . You might be surprised to learn that I actually have nothing against the early music by Coldplay. So I guess it's no surprise then that I like Liam as well, as the new record was produced by Danton Supple (Coldplay). I guess this sounds like what new Coldplay could have become had they modeled their sound after Ryan Adams and not U2 meets Sade. (courtesy [...]

That's right- yet another terrific musical offering from Manchester. What other city in the world can top it when it comes to great music? Liam Frost has been touted by more than a handful in the music press as the next Badly Drawn Boy. And unlike the majority of other music press comparisons, this one's pretty spot on for the most part. You could be quick to think that it's mostly suggested because of their physical appearances- both are soft-spoken, pudgy singer-songwriters with unkempt hair. But it's much more than just that (and the fact [...]
