Apartment hunting in Paris is not easy. The following tracks have helped make it a little more bearable though. They have accompanied me as I have wandered around my new home looking for a new home. Enjoy this second installment of the Love Controls Mixtape Series . Okkervil [...]

Depois de oito anos a banda de Matt Sharp (ex-Weezer) The Rentals irá lançar material novo. "The Last Little Life EP" contém três canções inéditas: "Last Romantic Day" , "Little Bit of You in Everything" e "Life Without a Brain" (a primeira palavra de cada canção forma o nome do EP) e "Sweetness and Tenderness" que é uma canção do primeiro álbum do grupo "Return of the Rentals" só que em versão diferente. O novo álbum é prometido para final desse ano ou começo do ano que vem. Recentemente [...]

Anytime I post about Sunset Rubdown is a good time I believe. I have come to the conclusion that Spencer Krug is some sort of genius. So when "Random Spirit Lover" is released in October I implore you to buy it. It is quite definitely a masterpiece. An exquisite statement of brilliance. Jagjaguwar recently made a track available for consumption and it is a joy to behold. Having said that if you haven't heard "The Taming of the Hands That Came Back to Life" off the same album you are in for a treat and a [...]

After one of the largest album release weeks of the year, I was kind of hoping to not have the same thing happen for the second consecutive week in a row. As you can see though, we were not let off the hook with this week's releases either. Not as many high-profile albums with this bunch, but still more than enough goodies to wet your appetite for something new. If there's one album this week that I can highly recommend, it would certainly be the US release of New Young Pony Club's Fantastic [...]

No Age: Weirdo Rippers While the rest of the world got to enjoy Weirdo Rippers for the last two months, people in North America had to wait till now to buy one of my favourite records of the year. The band's approach of noise rock with a twist of 80s' hardcore punk, indie pop and Suicide influenced style projects wonderfully surreal/dreamlike sensations for the listeners. Every Artist Needs A Tragedy [super-wicked-cool song] My Life's Alright Without You [super-wicked-cool song] [...]

What this week lacks in depth, it makes up in density, as two artists this week are notorious for challenging releases. The latest from both Liars and Aesop Rock have see them peeling back some of their willfully difficult veneers, while from across the bond, the debut from Jamie T also challenges ears in deciphering just what this drunk brit is talking about. Playlist: New Releases 08.28.07 Album: Aesop Rock - None Shall [...]
Aesop Rock will perform from his new album at Musicfest NW photo by Alex Blackstock Don't forget that Live at KEXP Volume 3 is available from our website and at local record stores. This limited release contains exclusive songs, recorded on KEXP, by The Shins, Beirut, Ghostland Observatory, Lady Sovereign, The English Beat, and many others. A thorough list of this week's new releases can, as always, be found on Largehearted Boy 's informative blog. [...]

Artist name: Liars Album name: Liars Label: Mute Records Gender: Experimental/Indie Release date: August 28, 2007 ZMErating: 8.5/10 Website: http://www.liarsliarsliars.com / Liars is one of those bands that you simply don't know what to expect from, they're totally unpredictable and always experimenting with their music. This has caused some severe loss of fan base over the past years, because of their ever changing albums, each LP with a totally different and weird theme (witches, betrayal, the adventures [...]
Last week 's swarm of records, echoes through this week as well, in a way preparing us for the huge wave of releases that will hit the market on 9/11. For now Super Fury Animals , Liars and Art In Manila lead the pack for this week's new records. Liars: Liars Super Fury Animals: Hey Venus! [...]

Back from Belgium's Pukkelpop festival. It was certainly better than I was expecting and fulfilled many of my musical fantasies. The following is a very brief musical overview of Pukkelpop. I will get my camera film developed in time and post my festival in pictures in due course. Thursday: Lo-Fi-FNK kicked it off, after two years waiting to see them, my moment finally came, enjoyable electropop fun, just need to work on their dance moves (hypocrisy) [...]
Planningtorock is a beautiful female counterpart to Frankenstein's monster. She's a Victorian Cassette Playa. She is a white and beige witch from the dusty woods of Ganymede. Dance-punk/art-rock/noise-pop/ experimental genre chameleons, a.k.a. Liars, have a new self-titled album coming out August 28th. Actually, I'm a little unsure of the release date. Their official website says August 20th, but most other sites list the 28th or TBA. Looking past the confusion however, the album is a noisy mesh of drums and guitar squeezed through various effects with vocals and other instrumentation stirred right in. The experimental album is very reminiscent of The Microphones' first full length, " Tests ", with its odd studio horseplay and echoey, almost lo-fi atmosphere. As expected, its not dancy like their debut, [...]

This Thursday my buddy William 'Fucking' Reed will be spilling out some tracks at Hub's 15 year anniversary party in Scottsdale. Expect fashionistas and hipsters alike with a few regular joes thrown in for good measure. There are promises of food, drink & Diesel giveaways and I for one have never passed up a chance to wear free $200 jeans. MP3: Liars - It Fit When I Was A Kid (Crystal Castles Remix) - Sean

Alright, finals are over! I figured I'd try something different since a bunch of stuff has been building up during my unintentional hiatus. Also, there's just a lot of good albums that come out this month. I've already talked about a few of my favorite upcoming August releases, all of which happen to come out on the 21st (which has turned out to be rather disproportionately concentrated day for album releases). Here's a little overview of some other albums you should check out this month: Okkervil River - [...]

New York based three-piece Liars are only a few weeks away from releasing their forth LP, the selftitled "Liars", which has been getting a lot hype around it lately. The band will embark on a album promotion tour, shortly after the albums release, on August 28, hand in hand with their mates from Interpol . The tour will see Liars and Interpol perform in locations all across America, from NY's Madison Square Garden to LA's The forum. Until then check out the video review we did for their fist single " Plaster Casts of Everything ". [...]
Midnight Juggernauts "Shadows" - "Shadows" might be a song about something. There's words, and there is singing, but it's all secondary to the simple snap of the beat, the relaxed bounce of the bass line, and these breezy, colorful synth parts that just sort of float through you. The song makes you passive, but it's not the sort of tune that picks you up and throws you around. You just go with it, and it takes you someplace nice where it's hot enough to be acutely aware of your body, but cool enough to chill you out. [...]

Black Lips: "Katrina" I, like a lot of people, think of Black Lips as a live band, primarily. It's a little jarring seeing the members isolated, and in front of a blank, one-color background. The video's made up of all closeups, and despite some clues (guitar licking, etc), it doesn't really show how they play together. Rating: 2 out of 5 stars (more...)
After seeing Matt Small doing his painting magic last week, I nipped over the road to Plastic People, where The Ghost Frequency were starting a new monthly residency. Now signed to City Rockers, the band certainly created enough of an atmosphere in that dark basement to suggest they might be stepping up with label mates The Sunshine Underground in the future.. with plenty of memorable punky
