Here at Irk The Purists Towers, we've had some success in flushing out our heroes (and heroines) that are currently languishing in the "Where Are They Now?" files. For instance, Todd Levin stuck his head above the parapet in response to this post . And Fiona Russell Powell got in touch as a result of this , and on subsequently meeting La Powell, I can happily report that she's as vivacious and waspish as ever. So, let's try for third time lucky: Beaumont Hannant, where are you? I'll confess, I know very little about Mr. Hannant, [...]

I've spent the last few weeks in a kind of fugue state of disbelief. I still can't quite believe this is happening. I can't believe this is happening again . At the very least, Katrina was a natural catastrophe, tragically compounded by ill-preparedness and bureaucratic red tape. In stark contrast, we brought the Gulf spill on ourselves: it speaks volumes of human selfishness, greed and hubris. That it's still going on leaves me heartsick, horrified and incredibly angry. I've never used this blog as a soapbox — I usually just natter on [...]

Lida Husik - Strawberries Are Growing In My Garden (And It's Wintertime) [Play]
We pulled back the curtains on the hotel room at Cape Kiwanda this morning to find something very much like the picture above. It was a VERY sunny and nice day for January and so Rev. Shayla, Jason and I tore that coast to pieces: 1. Cape Kiwanda. Exploring the tidal pools! The timing worked out amazingly well and we got out just at low tide. The sea receded to reveal little pocket pools in the limestone rocks that had barnacles, starfish, little anemone looking things and fishes and crabs. [...]

Beaumont Hannant is from York, England. Hannant became a hip-hop/electro DJ in 1986. During 1993-1994 he released several solo albums on GPR rooted in ambient techno. But in 1994/95 he started to change direction. Along with his long-term engineer Richard Brown, Hannant started the trip hop duo Outcast, signing to indie label One Little Indian in 1996. They released their debut album "Out Of Tune" in 1996. I've never heard any of the Outcast stuff. An article from this period said: At first, with his solo stuff, he was just glad that somebody was listening. He claims now [...]
...you never know how many inches you're gonna get or how long it'll last. The snow started this morning and is still falling at this hour and man is it gross out there! Typically, I enjoy the snow but what I don't enjoy is driving in it. And not even so much because I'm scared to drive on it but because I'm scared of all the idiots driving who AREN'T scared to drive on it. I swear it's like

I first became aware of Lida Husik’s work from a stellar review by Lois Maffeo in Puncture . Back in the pre-internet days I used to carry around a handwritten list of records I was looking for, and one day I hit pay dirt by finding Your Bag in my local shop’s $1 bin. And it turned out to be the best $1 I ever spent, because I can say without question that Your Bag is one of my favorite records of all time. It’s a hybrid record that bridges the [...]
