Me Bar via Joey's camera Joe stopped by a short while back. Apparently, there was a multi-person conspiracy to coordinate Joe's trip without my knowing. The first time I heard that Joe was going to visit: my doorbell rang and there he was with a suitcase. Well played, kids. His camera has a pretty cool glitch (at least I think so) that overexposes night shots. I think it's due to the sensor or timer going bad. Either way, the picture above is an example. [...]

We passed on this shady look'n casino in Noordwijk, Netherlands We've been putting together some pretty decent poker games recently. On top of that, I've been keeping up with the World Series of Poker on ESPN. All of this gambling has reminded me of all the random casinos that we ran into in Europe. On the streets of Germany and The Netherlands we came across casinos that often sat next door to everyday shops in busy areas of city centers, like next to clothing stores in Amsterdam and even a McDonald's in Munich. [...]

Geek alert: Hum , a local fave here in the '90s, is reuniting for a New Year's Eve gig in Chicago at the Double Door . KC's the Life and Times is opening. (And playing at the Bluebird next Thursday, October 16, with the Jovian Chorus and others -- and after seeing the LaT open for Swervedriver in June, GO!) Tickets aren't cheap ($65) but they are on sale now and appear to include an open bar . [...]

"Disney Billboard" by eBoy Trying to pack a bag for a long trip can be quite a daunting task. For me, the issue isn't so much that I try to bring my entire closet. I look at all the space in this 4,200 cubic inch backpack and wonder how I'm ever going to fill it. So I did a little research around the internet and found a ton of packing lists. No list is as complete as the Universal Packing List . It's too much stuff for [...]

From a Myspace bulletin posted by KC band The Life and Times . "the summer that wasn't : our handsome bassist and resident hairdo of the band-- Eric Abert --has had one shitdog of a summer. severely twisted his ankle not once but twice at the Riot Room here in KC a few months ago, then when our window was bashed out in SF this past tour it was only his bag that was stolen. then he got roughed up and fined by the Arizon Border Patrol for [...]

Andrew kicks off the warming of house First of all, gotta give a shout out to my friend and former Harlem roomie, Zoe , for writing some brilliant prose on her new blog Zoe Says . I think a lot of people will see a piece themselves when they read her blog. Or they'll inch away from the computer and shave their cat. Either way, Zoe's blog is sure to make an impact. She's inspired me to write a bit more than usual, so here [...]

Got out and explored my hood a bit. Around every corner I find yet another welcome change from Manhattan life. Tonight we walked towards Astoria Park but got distracted by Socrates Sculpture Park. There was a band playing some interesting electro/alt/rock in Spanish, to be followed by an outdoor international film showing on a large inflatable screen. Also snapped these pics from around the sculpture park (was dusk and these are just off my phone): [...]

Caught the sunset on the rooftop of The Met. "All I see is a picture of some girl in white pants." - Joey Most living rooms have a wall that everyone looks at. Usually it's the wall behind the TV, so everyone's eyes are in that direction anyways. There's a science, I'm sure, to painting this wall a certain color or hanging certain types of objects so as not to distract from the TV-watching experience. If you saw this wall in my last apartment, you know that I know nothing of such a science. [...]

The Life and Times, with Dropsonic and Quatre Tete Wednesday, April 23 Davey's Uptown Rambler's Club By JASON HARPER Last night's show at Davey's was marked by one thing I hadn't seen at a rock show in a while: sweat. I'm not talking oh-he's-working-up-a-bit-of-a- sweat sweat that you expect to see from a musician exerting himself whilst wailing and playing the power chords and doing the drums. I mean full-body, running-off-nose, dripping-off-ends-of-hair, arcing-through-the-stage-light s, hyphen-enducing rock S-W-E-A-T. Look closely at this picture of opener no. 2, Dropsonic [...]

Summer is beginning to give up its fight. During these September nights, the crickets are out in full force, and will continue to chirp until the frost comes and shuts them up 'til next summer. There is only one God, and the only way to know Him is through Me. Tolerance of other religions will only bring their eternal damnation. I Am the only way, all other paths lead to Hell. If you love Me, feed My sheep. And what better way to get ready for the harvest than with a mix of songs [...]
