Jersey hardcore punks Lifetime had an immortal run in the mid/late '90s; their template, as much or more as anyone else's, was the final late-stage emo adaptation that set the table for the dudes wh... Continue reading "Lifetime Throw Off Pete Wentz's Shackles" >

First off, I just want to say that my musical taste varies dramatically. I'm listening to Kiss Kiss by Chris Brown right now. Yes, I just admitted that. Well, with that being said, here goes my first ever written-out, share-with-the-world top 10 album list. 10. Sea Of Treachery - At Daggers Drawn They have a new vocalist on this album that I enjoy a lot better than the last. Their live show sold me as well. 9. Slipknot [...]
Fall Out Boy cover Lifetime Listen to Fall Out Boy 's cover of Lifetime 's " Turnpike Gates " here , where you can get all the essential links.

Patrick gives you the tools you need to back that thang up.

Having your home taken away from you is such difficult thing to go through. It's personal and hard enough to go through without being in the media. Lucky for you gossip mongers... I am heartless. Fantasia Barrino's $1.3 million North Carolina home is in foreclosure. She has until January 13th to catch up on her payments. Otherwise the home will be auctioned off to the highest bidder. Barrino and her daughter, Zion, have been living in the 6 bedroom home since March of [...]
(we're better than you) Ahh, the beautiful state of New Jersey, my ancestral homeland... Home of 24 hour diners (none of those crappy chains), lovely beaches, and some of the best punk bands around. Lets get a few things straight about the state: 1. No one pronounces it "Joisy", unless they have a speech impediment. 2. Most of us hate Bon Jovi (Springsteen is rad though) 3. We'll take "Oh

Heads up: this next week, Lifetime Network will be airing the best teenage internet pornography addiciton melodrama ever produced*, 2005's cyberSeduction: His Secret Life . According to New York's Time Warner Cable, the next airing is tomorrow, Tuesday Sept. 9th @ 2pm. Record it. *I have not yet seen Provident Films' Fireproof , which may be ineligible due to the fact that it is a fireman internet pornography addiction melodrama, but may be eligible due to the fact that said fireman is Kirk Cameron.
Before Lifetime reunited and signed to Decaydance (a.k.a. the vanity label of Fall Out Boy's Pete Wentz), it was one of the most seminal Jersey hardcore bands of the '90s. Here it is from the Hi-Pointe, playing "Ostrichsized" (from 1995's Hello Bastards ).
Here is part 2 of the revised and reexamined Buckets Full of Emo series (you can find part 1 here ). This one covers (roughly) 1994 and 1995 and reminds me of a funny conversation I had with my brother this past Friday evening that went something like this: Brother: Okay. There is this great band that you need to hear. Me: Who? Brother: Why do you post garbage? You should only write about good music. Me: Who is this band? Brother: Texas Is The Reason. Me: [...]
What gives people? 8500 page views in the last 3 days and 2 comments on my best of 2007 list? I thought we were friends. I thought we were getting to know one another. OK. I see how you are. ;) Anyhow, here is the top ten. My favorite records of the year. Some that grew into favorites and a few that instantly blew me away. Even a few that (even after less than a year) have sentimental value. I'm not sure if you care, but you can check out [...]

So tonight I am going to see two of NJ's best punk bands of the last few years and I feel like it's ten years ago. So anyway, I wanted to feature both albums that I love so much: Lifetime - 25 cent Giraffes Lifetime - Young Loud and Scotty . Lifetime - the Boy's No Good Lifetime - Theme from a new Brunswick Basement Show [...]

T his one was harder. Yeah, I threw in some Allister and managed to dig up a killer track from an old Dynamite Boy album, but this one was hard. Probably because most of the obscure old stuff I wanted to pull out and put on here are on CD's that are packed away in a storage unit. Until those boxes are unpacked, I think this will be it for the series. We hope you've enjoyed it and that you'll join us again next time. MP3 | Lifetime [...]

On Friday night, I went to go see my favorite band, the Bouncing Souls at the Electric Factory. I've seen them 9 or 10 times now, and this time was quite possibly the best set I've ever seen (as good as when I first saw them years ago). I was more amped than a schoolboy who just snorted crack. SHORT VERSION: I had a lot of fun, and the Bouncing Souls played a sick setlist. I was especially excited that every band was from New Jersey (being a native myself). Scroll [...]
I t's hard for me to believe that this past Sunday marked the 2nd birthday of this blog. Yeppers, Can You See the Sunset From the Southside is two. In that period of time I changed the design of this blog (even if only slightly) upwards of 7 times, I've shared thousands of songs and spotlighted hundreds of artists, and (hopefully) you've discovered something new and wonderful. Personally, the past two years haven't been dull. I finally finished school, my wife and I were blessed with a beautiful (if totally spastic) little girl, [...]
Way before what teens today think of as emo, the term was shorthand for emotional hardcore. It was not a dirty word that referred to the lifestyle that gets so much negative press these days. Originating in the Washington, DC music scene of the mid-1980's, some so-called "first-wave" emo or emocore bands included Rites of Spring, Embrace, and Moss Icon. Then came Fugazi (featuring ex-members of Rites of Spring and Embrace), Jawbox, and so on from there... This is (according to me) a brief history of emo in music only. Yes, it will be incomplete in some [...]

The past couple of days have been extremely difficult for the music industry. It's long been determined that the music business can change faster than Britney's choice of which rehab center she'll occupy. However, the past 48 hours have dealt a pair of insufferable blows to the fine world of music - in particular to the fine genre of pop punk. Bands break-up and form everyday, comparable to the "real world" where people consistently die and give birth. True in both realms of life are the impacts of certain deaths; repercussions for the demise of [...]
Hmm, I just saw lifetime at Bowery Ballroom last night and figured I would try to post something relative to the show ... I was going to post a song from the new record Lifetime, however, I decided to post this not so great Embrace cover they did years and years ago: Lifetime - Money (Embrace Cover)

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Lifetime is one of my favorite bands and this here blog is a reference to a quote from The Outsiders and (more specifically) to its inclusion in the Lifetime song "Ostrichsized" from their album Hello Bastards . I was excited when the band reunited last year and seeing them live made me feel like I was 17 again. I was also extremely excited to learn that the band was working on a new full-length album, which (not coincidentally) was released [...]
The Syndicate has posted an exclusive mp3 download for Lifetime's Northbound Breakdown. This track is off the Jersey...
You have all been very nice to us this week, and for that, you deserve a treat. Here you are, the lead track off of seminal and somewhat-recently-reunited NJ hardcore band Lifetime's upcoming album! "Northbound Breakdown" [MP3] So, when does the record come out? February 13th, on Decaydance / Fueled By [...]
