A Monday without work is like a Christmas without the fighting so to celebrate we've decided to clear the decks of our in-transit basket – a purgatory of sorts for songs that are too good to guillotine but missing a vital ingredient to ensure a post of their own. Chances are you'll find something lip-smacking enough to see you through the incessant march towards a crueller Tuesday than normal. Chicago's Gypsyblood have certainly been keeping busy. They played a highly anticipated show at Lincoln Hall with already well known local rockers Light Pollution and Maps & Atlases last Friday. This week, they're headed so SXSW, like many Chicago acts, and will be playing half a dozen shows before taking their tour to the northeast. In between all of this, Gypsyblood found time to debut a new track from their Sargent House release, Cold in the Guestway , which drops on April 12, recently on ConsequenceOfSound [...]

Photo Credit: Carrie Musgrave - livebabylive.com So as you're probably aware, last month we revealed our 11 Chicago Bands To Watch In 2011 . One aspect of the list that we think lacked a bit was the audio component. I mean sure, we can tell you about the bands, but we really want you to listen to them. Therefore we proudly present, albeit a few weeks late, The Loud Loop Press 11 Chicago Bands To Watch In 2011 Compilation . Tracks from all the bands on the list, Rabble Rabble [...]

Chicago's Gypsyblood were named in our 11 Chicago Bands to watch in 2011 with good reason. Not only are they going down to SXSW to play an official showcase, but their full-length debut, Cold in the Guestway , will drop on April 12 via Sargent House Records . Well, we have your first taste of ...Guestway with the noisy, power-pop of "Take Your Picture." The song is a chugging anthem, that mixes the beefy guitars of Weezer with some of the hazy-pop tendencies that band such [...]

It wasn’t the blazing, perma-glow sky of Chicago that inspired James Cicero to name his band Light Pollution. It was the star-filled nights over the cornfields of DeKalb, Ill. that brought both the band and their name to (pun intended) light. Light Pollution took the local and national blogpshere by storm after the release of their first album, Apparitions , and had fans falling in love with their manic rhythm, reeling keyboards and atmospheric vocals. Now, Cicero, Matt Evert, Nick Sherman and Jed Robertson sit on top of the indie chillwave, psychedelic-pop scene in Chicago and have plans for [...]

Photo Credit: Carrie Musgrave - livebabylive.com It's that time again! Simply put: There are thousands of great local bands playing every week in our fair city. Some you might know and some you might not. Seeing as it’s the beginning of a brand new year, we thought we’d point out some local bands who we think you might want to keep your eye on in 2011. And isn’t it always cool to say you were a fan of popular act back in the day when they were playing for eight people [...]

HCM’s Top 25 of 2010 Countdown #10 Chicago’s Light Pollution released my favorite “chill” song of the year. Combining indie rock with lush, atmospheric sounds, makes this band have a pretty unique sound. My personal favorite “Good Feelings” begins with lush, relaxing synths, and eventually transforms into a a chaotic flurry of sound. Complete with stomping drums, a huge baseline, and vocalist James Cicero’s soaring emotional vocals, it hits every aspect perfectly. The last minute or so of the song when all of the instrumentation is slowly building up into this huge climatic pounding, absoutely takes my [...]

It’s that time of year again. The first rumblings from the annual industry gathering known as South by Southwest were heard today when it released a preliminary list of performers slated for next year’s edition. Buried under a score of bands from the UK, Brooklyn, Los Angeles and New Zealand (?!) were Chicago’s own psych-rockers Light Pollution . Light Pollution released its dreamy debut album Apparitions earlier this summer. We can only hope that this list isn’t a sign of things to come with Chicago [...]
