Chicago's Gypsyblood have certainly been keeping busy. They played a highly anticipated show at Lincoln Hall with already well known local rockers Light Pollution and Maps & Atlases last Friday. This week, they're headed so SXSW, like many Chicago acts, and will be playing half a dozen shows before taking their tour to the northeast. It was the star-filled nights over the cornfields of DeKalb, Ill. that brought both the band and their name to (pun intended) light. HCMs Top 25 of 2010 Countdown #10 Chicagos Light Pollution released my favorite chill song of the year. Combining indie rock with lush, atmospheric sounds, makes this band have a pretty unique sound. My personal favorite Good Feelings begins with lush, relaxing synths, and eventually transforms into a a chaotic flurry of sound. Complete with stomping drums, a huge baseline, and vocalist James Ciceros soaring emotional vocals, it hits every aspect perfectly. Its that time of year again. The first rumblings from the annual industry gathering known as South by Southwest were heard today when it released a preliminary list of performers slated for next years edition. Buried under a score of bands from the UK, Brooklyn, Los Angeles and New Zealand (?!) were Chicagos own psych-rockers Light Pollution .
