Better late than never, here is this years 'Future Sounds' post, which contains a collection of artists we can't wait to hear new material from this year. Hysterical Injury // Facebook / Twitter Ever since we put forward Hysterical Injury for the Emerging Talent Stage for last year's Glastonbury, we've told anyone that will listen just how great they are. At the back end of last year that even included [...]
1. Daughter - The Wild Youth // Reviewed 9th December by Jon Sidwell "Elena and Igor have an ear to create space within their music, moments where their instruments can breath and the listener can fully appreciate the beauty that is being played out before them. The poignant combination of Elena's lingering vocals and the delicate acoustic/electric guitars demonstrate how simplicity in music is something to be applauded." || Daughter [...]
CM: What time did you wake up today? Was it out of choice or necessity? JS: 10 o'clock Glasgow time! Necessity – Had a 6 hour drive to the Northern coast of Scotland ahead of us playing in Thurso (look it up on the map.. its 10miles south of John O'Groats) CM: Describe Jumping Ships [...]

LightGuides could quite feasibly be yours and everyone's favourite new band if their debut EP ' Samba Samba Samba ' falls into the right hands and gets played to the right ears. Having recently become the latest signing to the ever impressive Alcopop! Records , this three-piece from Glasgow have already achieved national press in RockSound and Big Cheese , and this Summer played a 12 date tour with new label buddies Jumping Ships . If you can get passed the almost redundant comparisons with Biffy Clyro , yeah they are Scottish rockers [...]

The thundering and tumultuous pop-rock of Lightguides ( facebook / twitter ) has been described variously as simply "Scottish rock" after the successes of bands such Biffy Clyro or personal favourites of mine We Were Promised Jetpacks. It is definitely not samba. But Lightguides are not just the product of their contemporaries and influences, as they manage to stray away through clever variations in time signature and song structures a little bizarre at times - all of which adding to their musical charm. I'm never quite sure if I want to sing along to [...]
LightGuides released their mini-album 'Samba Samba Samba' earlier this month on Alcopop Records. We caught up with drummer Dave to discuss the 'veggie challenge', the healthy state of Scottish music and that elusive Jay-Z and Beethoven collaboration. And it goes a little like this: Cougar Microbes: What time did you wake up today? Was it out [...]

Artist : LightGuides Title : Samba Samba Samba Label : Alcopop! BUY IT Rock music; so easy to over-egg and so hard to do well. If the last forty-odd years is anything to go by then the previous statement seems about right. Thankfully for every ball-grabbing stadium rawk monstrosities there have been a host of fist-pumping, life-affirming bands. Scottish three-piece LightGuides thrust themselves firmly into the second category with their debut ' mini-album ' Samba, Samba, Samba [...]

Samba Samba Samba is the debut mini-album of Scottish pop-punk group Lightguides. As someone who avoided the noughties pop/punk/emo trend like Ghaddaffi dodging Tomahawks, I have to say I was a little reticent about the idea of there still being remnents of the 'Blink' influence in 2011 (I have been known to swear at DJs for playing My Chemical Romance and walk out of clubs after hearing the first bar of a Panic At The Disco! song). Another run-through of some of our favourite songs of the week. We hope you like what you hear...if you do then buy the songs. Or send an email to the band and tell them how much you love them or something. Ryan Adams - Lucky Now Something special to start this weeks Stream Room. Lucky Now is the first song to be released from the brand-spanking new album from the Alt-Country wonderboy that is Ryan Adams. Ashes & Fires, his first completely solo record since 20052s 29 LP, is set [...]

I'm not sure what the story behind this Scottish band's album title is, but before I go any further I'd like to point out that most of the samba evident on this record is in the title - sharp-eared listeners will pick up some other interesting flourishes. The Scottish trio are purveyors of razor-sharp power-pop, the kind which will inevitably draw comparisons to Biffy Clyro 's newer material. However, LightGuides are far more than just mere facsimiles. They're not in thrall to their influences at all. Their penchant for unpredictable song [...]

>> The opening number from Crooked Fingers ' hotly anticipated seventh full-length Breaks In The Armor showed up on Soundcloud a few days back, which has made us all the more excited to have the record in our hot little hands. The opening verses of "Typhoon" crest and ebb while working a Southwestern motif; midway through the song things get increasingly dynamic, with some controlled, dense guitar crescendos and the introduction of a female vocal harmony. And while the distorted guitar continues through the rest of the song, it is spangled with what sounds like punchy arpeggiation [...]

This week's round up of the tracks that I haven't had the space to post... The Young Knives From: Ashby De La Zouch, Leicestershire, United Kingdom After a summer of rioting on the streets of London it's good to have the Young Knives back with their whimsical and oh so English pop. New single Vision In Rags harks back to a simpler, kinder and altogether less aggressive age. [...]
Second in the series of our new weekly feature which takes a look at some of our favourite songs of the week. Lot's more good music for your ears this week, same rubbish name though I'm afraid folks. Get used to it. Welcome to the GFP Stream Room... Neon Indian - Fallout First song to be released from Neon Indian' s upcoming Era Erana LP is pretty darn lovely. Alan Palomo recorded much of the album holed-up in Helsinki apparently...that's the only fact [...]
I have nothing of interest to say in the intro. No change there then. New Releases: Roddy Hart - Road of Bones. Album available from iTunes . Kid Canaveral - And Another Thing!!! As mentioned last week, the new single from Kid Canaveral, backed with a remix by FOUND and a cover of Missionary, by the other KC. Available from Bandcamp , and now from iTunes . Lach - Ramshackle [...]

If you're reading this for tips, I'm afraid you've already missed the best gig in Edinburgh this week: Yo La Tengo at the Queen's Hall, tonight. Sorry about that. There's not much else, unfortunately, although Sneaky's have Talons , Lady North and Jackie Treehorn on Wednesday , followed by Thomas Tantrum , New Fiction and Acrylic iQon the following day . Both of those look pretty interesting, but I can't honestly claim to know much about any of the bands. We also have a [...]

Steven Milne I know I am about to lose a lot of credibility in a lot of eyes, by saying this, but I don't really care for Bob Dylan. There I have said it, I know that we're all supposed to bow down to his suppose genius, however, I really couldn't give less of a fuck about him or his music. So in the week when the world celebrated his 70th birthday, I shrugged my shoulders and moved on. God, that was a terrible introduction to this freebie, I'll stop rambling and get to the point. Singer song-writer [...]

It's no secret that the Alcopop! Records roster looks stronger now than it has for a while. While it may have lost a few great bands along the way, it has swelled considerably in recent months and continues to put out top-notch stuff. As recently as last Monday they snapped up Glasgow trio LightGuides , a band who are set to release debut single 'Old Bucket Seats' next month and follow it up with a mini-album in the summer. If 'Midget Gems' is anything to go by, these guys definitely deserve to have tabs kept on them. [...]

Track Listing 1. Chameleon 2. Swizzlestick 3. The Casting Call 4. Midget Gems Download Apologies the track names seem to have ballsed up, I'm sure you'll all be fine to fix them yourself. Right? Come on, seriously do I have to do everything for you? Ah stop moaning, yes Jim, I do mean you....
