The Flaming Lips have released a video from their collaboration with Lightning Bolt for the single "I Wanna Get High But I Don't Want Brain Damage." Aside from the humorous intro message from Lips' frontman Wayne Coyne, the single is reminiscent of early Ween recordings with its' gritty vocals.

I always expected this collab to happen. But, somehow I never expected this.

In a fantasy collaboration I couldn't have possibly dreamed up, the Flaming Lips and Lightning Bolt have dropped a new track, "I Wanna Get High But I Don't Want Brain Damage." The truth is, who doesn't? I love what this track offers in terms of noise, but maybe I'm not huge on the simple and lumbering bass and drums. Still, the vocals are hilarious, and the video only adds to the absurdity. It looks like a combination of Animal Collective's ODDSAC and a Rathergood music video like " the Moon ."

The Flaming Lips and Lightning Bolt are releasing a collaborative EP. Try to imagine how weird that will be. Okay, not stop and watch this video instead. It contains the track, I Wanna Get High But I Don't Want Brain Damage . Watching it may give you brain damage.

Although I included a link to the Flaming Lips' new collaboration with New England, noisemakers Lightning Bolt in my Facebook feed late Friday, this video is one which deserves a second look and listen. In one word, it's weird. Providence noise lifers Lightning Bolt have collaborated on an EP with Wayne Coyne. Here's a video for one of the tracks, "I Want to Get High But I Don't Want Brain Damage." (Very different than Björk's Lightning Bolt moment .) The Flaming Lips and Lightning Bolt have got a collaborative EP coming out soon, which is being previewed by this video that was made in Wayne Coyne's home. The meeting of these two bands is certainly intriguing, although "I Want to Get High But I Don't Want Brain Damage" definitely errs close to the Lips' sound than it does to that of the Providence-based noise makers. This is likely to only be a curio in the careers of both bands, with Coyne's Beefheartian vocal oscillating between amusement and annoyance throughout.
