True fans of music spend countless hours searching for that next great song, album or artist, whether it be online or in a local record shop. The beautiful thing about music in today’s age is that technology has created an infinite supply of great music that is available to us at the click of a mouse. How perfect is that? We can discover a brand new artist on the opposite side of the globe in seconds without a radio or a music television channel. It only makes sense that a website so dedicated to this gorgeous universe of music would [...]

The Knox Road email isn't currently working on my computer, so a post about a band I've been listening a lot to lately will have to suffice. But don't worry, you're not getting gypped - my music taste is your music taste, right? Right?? Hmm... Regardless of your answer to that last (rhetorical) question, I present to you Lights Out Asia , an experimental trio from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. To get a clue of for their music, their influences listed on MySpace are "Atlantic, Pacific, melting glaciers, panoramas, llamas, bananas." See, it's kinda weird when things [...]

Lights Out Asia - Absence Of Oceans

Lights Out Asia are a post-rock/ambient trio from Wisconsin, who released their third album, Eyes Like Brontide last month. They fuse an ethereal-like post-rock with electronic components, being cited as “sleep-rock” and “post-shoegaze.” This is the first album I’ve heard of Lights Out Asia so I may not have the right to compare to their previous albums, but other reviewers have said that Eyes Like Brontide is a lot darker and more abstract than the band’s first two releases. The album, in its whole, is very good. It achieves a consistent tonality, using [...]

Well, if I were the type to devise genres, I would unhesitatingly describe Tanks and Recognizers , the latest album by Lights Out Asia , as "Sleep Rock." Lights Out Asia has effortlessly crossed the genre borderline, as their sound combines rock, ambient, experimental, electronica, and, um, new age, in a way that sounds completely natural and convincing. I would use the term sparingly, though, because I would not want to imply that their music is boring , for their melodies are most assuredly not boring. Instead, their sound is big, [...]
You know what? I think I'm starting to burn out on this whole Neu Rave (no, it's NOT rave) / New French Touch (God I hate that term) / Noisy Machine Rock / Ed Banger-ish sound - the RobotSound™ posse have given to derisively calling it "Daft Punk Breaks." Maybe because it's just a bit too prevalent and trendy or that in six month's time I'll have heard just about everybody trying to sound like or get remixed by the latest incarnation of Justice/SebastiAn/Mr. Oizo. Don't get me wrong - some of it is brilliant. But seriously, I'm [...]

The wedding was fabulous and a lot of fun. It felt good to reconnect with family and friends and everything was beautiful; I think all the guests were filled with love after the event, it was really quite lovely. And I was their witness for their marriage license, I felt quite special. :-) I thought we would ease into the week with some electronic ambient sounds from Lights Out Asia . Their new album has captivated my soul with it's magical shoe-gaze electronica and ravishing multi-layered arrangements. This Wisconsin group has certainly won me over with this [...]
