Size Records and its progressive masterminds are continuing their blazing hot streak with the upcoming release of Steve Angello's Third Party collaboration. "Lights" is the epitome of anthemic house, boasting powerful builds and big room synths while embodying signature progression. Steve's influence is apparent with the relative sounds from " Yeah " and Third Party's contribution is comparable to their festival friendly " Thank You ." We've heard this track work wonders on massive crowds from Jonnie and Harry at Size in the Park and Steve at EDC NY , and it will finally make its Beatport release on October [...]

After a whirlwind couple of years, Ellie Goulding is back to tell us that “Anything Could Happen.”

Halcyon: adj. denoting a period of time in the past that was idyllically happy and peaceful. Like Adele's '21', 'Halycon' is something of a break-up album from ex-partner and Radio 1 DJ Greg James. It's still a rather odd title for her sophomore album. It neither looks to the past for its musical inspiration, nor is it a particularly happy or peaceful album. It may indicate that her debut album was a simpler, happier time and 'Halcyon' is certainly a more serious and mature work. But it's also an album about hope, an album [...]

Canadian rockers Arkells are excited to return to the US for a 4-week tour with Lights. Beginning October 23rd in Seattle, WA, Arkells will hit the road and continue to win over music fans with a sound Esquire Magazine, Alternative Press, Nylon and Paste Magazine spotlight as an impressive "combination of crunchy rock guitars and an unabashed love for Hall & Oates pop melodies." Taylor Bennett and Light are building a strong musical relationship. Today they improve upon it with the new cut, "On Deck", a stark, frantic and driving new record done over a Nitty Beat. "On Deck" is accompanied by "Beverly Hills", which is produced by Plu20 Nash. Check out both cuts below.

The first known light painting photographs were made way back in 1914, when Frank and Lillian Moller Gilbreth used small lights and long exposure photos to capture the motion of workers. Subjects ranged from handkerchief folders to bricklayers. The photos weren’t meant as art, but were instead made to help develop ways to increase employee output and simplify job tasks. [...]

Though she went to Paris in 1921 to study sculpture, Berenice Abbott would transition to photography when she became Man Ray’s assistant in 1923. Three years later, she set up her own studio, photographing the French capital’s bohemians, artists and intellectuals—and famous friends such as writers James Joyce and Jean Cocteau—before moving back to the States in 1929. For the next two decades, Abbott focused her lens on Depression-Era New York, producing a number of moving, black-and-white images that would become part of her book Changing New York . This [...]

2012 is a glorious time for fans of warm, reverb-y washes of falsetto and pulsing synth layers. Within this setting, Foxkit (the alias of one Chris Upton) makes music that shines. His electronic productions are at once fun party jams and intimate headphone experiences. We're excited to follow the creative paths of this young LA artist as his audience and ideas grow. Chris is currently touring as a member of Mr. Little Jeans , sharing the stage with heavyweights like Fool's Gold and Mayer Hawthorne. As thoroughly awesome as that gig sounds, we can't wait for him to [...]

Light artist Eric Staller could be called the father of light painting in its present day form. Staller was born in 1947 in New York. He studied architecture at the University of Michigan and graduated with a bachelors degree in 1971. Towards the end of his time at UOM Eric started to create sculpture and pieces of performance art. From 1976 to 1980 Staller roamed the dark streets of New York City creating light painting photographs. Eric’s Light Drawing series could be the very first Light Art Performance Photographs ever created. [...]

Photographer Amy Friend finds vintage images online, in vintage shops or in old family albums and then alters them by allowing tiny little holes of light to pass through. The result is an incredibly mesmerizing series called Daré alla Lucé , an Italian phrase used to describe the moment of birth, as she aims to give the photographs back to the light. [...]

I knew Bambino had good beats. I knew he could rhyme. I didn't know he was holding back soemthing as good as the Lights EP , though. If I didn't know any better, I would have thought that Bambino called Houston, TX home. The Lights EP is completely immersed in the style of the codeine induced hip-hop of the Lone Star State. However, Bambino lives about 3 miles from me here in Pensacola, FL. If you've been around The Record Stache, you've probably heard some of Bambino's work through my features on Kid Kodak and Murphy [...]

Talk Talk's final two albums, Spirit of Eden and Laughing Stock , respectively, are two of my favorite records, but they were Talk Talk's least commercially successful because the band utterly ignored its synth-pop, new wave roots (and its audience) to embark an an experimental tangent that has influenced a generation of songwriters. Ex-Depeche Mode keyboardist Alan Wilder has compiled a tribute album to a band he says "experienced a career in reverse." He continues, "There was a direct correlation between the quality increase and the popularity decrease." Talk Talk stormed onto the charts with [...]
