That Canadian synth pop singer you may know as Lights, who was definitely your (my) guilty pleasure at one time or another is all grown up. After what seems like a long two-year gap between albums, Lights has reemerged from her poppy album "The Listening" with a new direction, and it's surprisingly good. Take a lot of synths, a bit of indie pop, some new wave vibes and even some dubstep elements. If you cook it just right, you get "Siberia." The first single off the album, "Toes," shows the difference between the two records rather well. No [...]

Forest Swords: kinda like if Explosions In The Sky were minimalist and listened to more electronica. Off of last year's Dagger Path: Forest Swords: Glory Gongs Forest Swords: The Light Filed under: Alternative , Ambient/Lo-Fi , Music Tagged: Dagger Path , Forest Swords , Glory Gongs , The Light

Lights - Siberia Release date: October 4, 2011 Even though it's neat that her real name is Lights and she has an interesting backstory, it would be nice if there was more thought put into this cover. But when you're riding the nu-electropop wave to death and you look and dress like her, you don't need much marketing. Add to that the fact that she's kinda-sorta Christian, yet is willing to turn the slut photo shoot dial to maybe a four or [...]
Siberia, the new sophomore album by Lights (a.k.a. Toronto singer-songwriter Lights Poxleitner), was just released this week via Last Gang Records. L.A. reviewer Laura Foxworthy shares her thoughts about the album below... There is a lightness that pervades Lights' new album, Siberia that is both infectious and lulling, an almost electro-pop lullaby at times, and [...]
Stylah and Lowkey get their grown man on over Common's The Light , produced by the late Jay Dee.
Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News , Exclusive , New Releases Jeremy Chan Photography For her sophomore effort, 'Siberia,' Canadian electro-pop maven, Lights teamed up with indie-electro band Holy F--- and Juno-winning rapper Shad . The result is a record more sonically adventurous than most were expecting given her slick, radio-ready 2009 debut. When we crashed the singer's intimate release party in Toronto, Lights told Spinner that [...]

LIGHTS - Siberia Canadian electro-pop star LIGHTS is known for tickling a gnarly synth but that isn't all that she can do. On her sophomore album, Siberia , the singer is showing off her many sides by adopting a more in your face, gritty sound and mixing it with the synth-filled, electronica-pop-fusion her fans have come to love. The result is an album that appeals to just about everyone. There are tracks that will keep her loyal pop crowd satisfied but-dare we say it-give her a few hip hop fans as well. [...]

Filed under: News , Exclusive , New Releases Warner Music Siberia is a frozen wasteland in eastern Russia where criminals and political prisoners once endured years of hard labour in the region's infamous Gulag prison camps. It's also the title of the new album from Canadian electro-rock maven Lights. Obviously, Lights (also known as Valerie Poxleitner) never endured anything as brutal as Russian author Igor Dostoyevsky -- who spent time in a Siberian prison [...]

Peter Hook & The Light visited Chicago's Metro late Friday night, unwrapping a box of Joy Division hits, including a complete performance of Closer , the late Manchester outfit's 1980 sophomore LP. Fans arrived in clusters, mostly donning faded shirts of yesteryear. A few even had tattoos. Yet despite the incessant fandom, there was a rather somber form of excitement amongst the crowd. Tragedy blankets the Joy Division name - especially for Americans. Prior to frontman Ian Curtis' suicide on May 18, 1980, the band had been slated to perform [...]

Last night at Chicago's Metro, Peter Hook & The Light concluded their U.S. tour, though they brought a friend along ( again ). After running through Joy Division's sophomore LP, Closer , Hook & Co. knocked out a string of hits, climaxing with "Transmission" and "Love Will Tear Us Apart". Local native Billy Corgan hopped on for these two cuts, offering up his raspy cowl. Needless to say, the Windy City crowd took it pretty well. Check out the clip below, courtesy of Cluster 1 . Stay tuned for full coverage of the event, still forthcoming.

Tweet What do you get when you take a man back from driving round America in an old beat-up Chevy writing songs, a man bored of Glasgow and recently moved to Amsterdam, and a couple of good mates? … Drawing a blank? The answer is Sur Nilsson . This four piece's origins may sound a bit rag tag but there is nothing rag tag about their music. Their self-titled EP preview is two songs long and each is in its own way is different whilst [...]

Artist : WATERS Title : Out In The Light Label : City Slang BUY IT In a recent GFP interview, Van Pierszalowski talked about the break up of Port O'Brien and the start of his new project WATERS . After moving to Norway, Van got a band together and soon enough they were recording their debut album. It took only ten days to record, so Van clearly knew what [...]
Well this is pretty cool. Some up-and-coming YouTube star uploaded this video of him (and his hot sister) doing his take of the Bassnectar remix of Lights using only his mouth. I can't even imagine how long it took for him to do this. Too many people have taken Ellie's vocals and added wub-wubs and whomp-whomps but how many of you can replicate a whole song with your voicebox? Gotta admire the creativity. But seriously, can I get your sister's number? #Smang drink the kool aid:

Tweet "Belgian Wave" is a song of nostalgic regret and embraced mistakes, longing in time's own realization, sadness beyond tears, one's own looking back becoming conversant with the past all the while slowly beginning to perceive the vast void between then and now. I might as well be talking about Grandpa Was A Lion's music in general. Those are the themes that define Justin D'Onofrio, those are the ideals that make his music incredible. So many bands circle around the inner core of our [...]

Introducing Klaypex, the duo just gave away their EP ' Loose Dirt ' for free last month. Lots of good electronic and all on their Soundcloud . Another new name to me the other day was Refix . I heard their track 'Discovery' and was massively impressed. You can grab it now alongside his other track 'Solider' here. Finally a little clip from Radio 1 of a remix from Roksonix . They never disappoint. No idea of a release but will probably be release next to the original in the coming months. [...]
