Devonté Hynes, formerly of Test Icicles and Lightspeed Champion, is one of the busiest modern producers around. Having penned works for Florence & The Machine, Basement Jaxx, Solange Knowles, Theophilus London and a grammy award winning Chemical Brothers track, you would be hard pressed to find a producer with the ability shapeshift sounds as well as he does, while maintaining his own identity. With this in mind, Hynes latest project, Blood Orange , continues to be a prime example of a songwriter who is comfortable and honest with themselves. [...]
British Devonté Hynes aka Lightspeed Champion aka Blood Orange, former member of the band Test Icicles, is releasing his depute full length album called "Coastal Grooves". Check out the video for "Sutphin Boulevard"! Enjoy the groovy remixes by disco masters like In Flagranti and Bottin! Tweet
New Artists, Fav Tracks Devonté Hynes is hardly a new artist as he has been in the music industry for several years either recording as Test Icicles or Lightspeed Champion or writing and producing for other artists. His new project Blood Orange is propelling him further into the spotlight with its unabashed 802s influence accented [...]
Brian Wilson, the musical genius behind The Beach Boys, turns 69 years old today and we celebrate with a collection of covers of his songs.

Over the past several years, Dev Hynes has been back and forth between LA and New York, working on production for different artists across a pretty broad spectrum, from R&B with Solange Knowles to electronic music with Basement Jaxx and the Chemical Brothers. Prior to that, he was the lead singer of UK dance-rock band the Test Icles and released an excellent solo album under the name Lightspeed Champion in 2008. The album, titled "Falling Off the Lavender Bridge", was more of a folk and indie-rock based effort, where Hynes lyrically drew from a harsh breakup and other trying events [...]
Whether he goes by Lightspeed Champion or his most recent moniker Blood Orange , Dev Hynes knows how to blend soft pop and playful charm with his all-out folk jams. His signature puree will make itself heard once again, as Hynes is set to release his latest solo effort Coastal Grooves on August 8th in the UK (a U.S. release date is forthcoming). Like the rest of his catalog, the album is influenced by his eclectic background as a British Texan who blogs, composes, produces, and can play just about every [...]

The former Test Iciles man is releasing a new album under that name called 'Coastal Grooves' on August 8th through Domino.
He's a sucka for kick a** monikers. Mostly known for his work under Lightspeed Champion or perhaps birth name Devonté Hynes - where he wrote and produced on Theophilus London 's Lover's Holiday EP, - our British quirky friend releases the visuals to the first single under Blood Orange, titled "Dinner." The video is nothing less than greatness, supporting the track's 80s' felt synths with jean jackets, fly hairstyles and basketball. The video was directed by Alan Del Rio Ortiz, and the track was recorded and produced by [...]
Tweet Yeah... I'm going to admit I'm a little late on singing the praises of indie rap wunderkind Theophilus London. A shame considering the gent comes to us straight out of Brooklyn. My own backyard and I've neglected to give him his shine. Lucky for Theophilus, many of my colleagues in this here blogosphere have picked up the slack and have spoken glowingly over the abundance of talent this man possesses. Rap is his game but it's quite apparent that he's very keen on the pop hook. Witness Flying Overseas [...]

Chris Taylor sure has an adoration for 80s revival. The Grizzly Bear member, Terrible Records head honcho and producer of Twin Shadow's memorable debut, Forget , has co-produced the newest jams by Dev Hynes aka Lightspeed Champion's Blood Orange moniker. A-side "Dinner" is a sparkling cascade of electro sounds, sensual and crisp thanks to Hynes' flawless delivery, though the lyrics are a bit more somber than you'd expect: "I'll do everything I can to make sure that you are never happy."
