Here's a highlight from a recent covers compilation of early Lilys stuff curated by Clicky Clicky Music blog. Boston based noise rockers, Soccer Mom chose "Ginger", the opening track of Lilys' 1994 EP, A Brief History of Amazing Letdowns. They offer a faithful rendition, bringing out the more shoegaze side of Lilys while suppressing slightly the dreaminess of Kurt Heasly's original vocals in favor of a low baritone doubled with octave female vocals which gives a slightly different ring to "she comes and she goes but she mostly goes". The rest of the compilation is available here .

[TL; DR: DOWNLOAD HERE ] We suppose to begin at the beginning would be to report that in the summer of 1993 we were driving with the windows down one afternoon in Ardmore, PA, the radio was dialed to Princeton's WPRB, and then we first heard "Claire Hates Me" by Lilys . The tune is a rush of dense guitar and gently modulating melody with an impassioned vocal, so nice it was released twice: first as one side of a split 7" as part of Simple [...]

>> Like Tom Waits , art-pop concern Mahogany keep getting weirder while staying the same (to whit, Wikipedia describes the once-octet thusly: "an electric music-based multidisciplinary media ensemble currently working in Philadelphia, New York, Chicago, and other locations"). After only faint rumors and dead-ends in regards to the follow-up to their massive, brilliant and still misunderstood 2006 album Connectivity! , the band has finally released a new song. And it's a doozy, too. "Phase Break" is an eight-minute cycle of beats, choruses, and synths that incorporates elements of [...]

The decade of the 1990's out with s ome real and genuine promise, and my ears were especially glued to the sounds that Creation Records in the UK was releasing; music that had one foot rooted in the '60's but music that also looked forward. The early '90's was also a peak in hip hop, and the best of this music still stands tall today and doesn't feel dated. It was also cool to see bands that I loved (Sonic Youth, Nirvana, Mudhoney to name a few) get signed to big labels and start making a [...]

A couple of recent shoegaze album lists from Sounds Better with Reverb and Surfing on Steam prompted me to recall those heady days of shoegaze between 1988 and 1994. My recollection wasn't about the great albums, though there were some, but about the EP's. Those of us there at the time know that it was all about the EP. Albums were slow to come and often disappointing but the EPs came quick and were often a band's pinnacle. Often a band would do a brilliant EP and then never reach the same heights on the album, or never [...]
The sun is shining on this Easter morning. The air is still, and the day is getting warmer. No winter coats will cover pastel Easter dresses. I can hear birds singing even though the windows are closed. Yesterday I saw a few buds on one of my bushes. The buds are tiny and closed tightly, but they are another sign that spring is gaining hold. The alarm rang at 6:15 this morning, and I turned it off and went back to sleep for an hour. I had set it early so I could sneak down my friends' house and decorate the [...]

I saw this list the other day and felt compelled to make a more comprehensive, accurate, and essential rundown of albums that have truly stood out in a musical and historical sense. Albums that are influential, groundbreaking and still memorable. And let's be clear that bands like Galaxie 500, Mercury Rev, Verve, Mazzy Star, etc., these are all great bands that have produced some astounding work, but they are definitely not shoegaze. It's obviously way too early to rank the new MBV album so I'm not even gonna go there. [...]
Amelia Lily last week announced the title of her forthcoming debut album; Be A Fighter will be released through Xenomania/Sony on April 29th and will be preceded by her third single, Party Over on April 14th. “Only 15 months ago, I’d just finished my GCSEs and left school. A couple of months later, I was on the biggest television show going, got knocked out, came back, got to the final, came third, & got a record deal. Now I’ve released two singles, shot videos in Los Angeles, and recorded my first album!” Meet [...]

Lilies es parte del album The Haunted Man .
It was just a matter of time before Bat For Lashes teamed up with Peter Sluzska after Natasha Khan raved about his Moones "Better Energy" video on Pitchfork's Guest List last year (it also happened to be one of my favorite videos of 2012 ). Sluzska again utilizes a surrealistic, grab-bag approach, immersing Natasha in a world of life-size monster puppets, whimsical stop-motion animation, morphing landscape miniatures and floating polygons in this supremely creative video.

After releasing one of last year's A-listed albums as well as making our Top 101 Songs of 2012 (" Laura " came in at No.15), you probably already know by now that we quite enjoyed Bat For Lashes ' last album, The Haunted Man . And as you'd expect, her new video for the standout track " Lilies " only intensifies our love for Ms. Natasha Khan with some truly impressive visuals. It's a little Björk [...]
Like Sia, Imogen Heap, Florence + the Machine and the rest of her fellow British baroque-pop songstresses, London-born Natasha Khan, better known as Bat for Lashes , has all the breathy-voiced charm and quirky good looks that make for love at first sight. The daughter of a Pakistani former professional squash player and an English mother, Khan’s music bears all the drama and conflict and beauty of her biracial heritage. “Lilies” is the opening track from her third disc, The Haunted Man , a hauntingly poetic, dream-like New Age anthem, shimmering with [...]
Bat For Lashes never really amused us. This is a pretty song, but still doesn't take us to the greatest of places. We hope her personal evolution will get here somewhere closer to Tori Amos and/or Kate Bush.
