D chooses a couple of artists from 1992 and 1993, with Justin Robertson (Lionrock) and Jaydee. Lionrock - Lionrock (MERC 1992) Trainspotters are a strange bunch (stay away from them, kids). I recall Ctel exhibiting distress and irritation at the fact that X had the original 12" of this and he, Ctel, couldn't get hold of it. This caused X no end of amusement and even today he still mentions it with an air of smug satisfaction. Nerds. Me, on the other hand, I just think it's a grand disco floor filler [...]

Although Tom and Ed produced only three 12"s under the Dust Brothers name, they did have a consistent track record of remixes under that name and quite a lot of their best mixes date from this time. A couple today from a straighter dance perspective and a couple tomorrow from a more rock and pop perspective. First up, a remix of Lionrock's "Packet of Peace" in 1993. Lionrock mainman Justin Robertson recalls "'Packet of Peace' was one of their first remixes, I got them to do it after hearing 'Song [...]

Mentioning albums I bought just because the cover is brilliant reminded me of this: An Instinct For Detection by Lionrock. Just look at that cover! It's so cool, how could I not buy it. As it is, I barely like the album. But at this point I was starting to get into vaguely electronic music - exploring Stereolab, Dubstar and Saint Etienne a little further - so I was quite open to new sounds. This never quite caught, unfortunately, being just that little bit too dancey and trip-hoppy for my liking. I was also mercilessly derided [...]

"What you get is what you see not what they say..." ...the words of MC Buzz B as featured on this recording by Lionrock. This wise statement maybe true in some cases but right now you're going to get what you see AND what I (me being they) say. Despite having a name that reminds me only of the vicar (Mr. Busby) of the parish where my first primary school was, this not-very-famous MC flows just lovely. I still know all the rap/poem now and it's deep in a simple way. [...]
I'm down in Manchester this weekend, so I have edited the timestamp on this post to appear some time on Saturday. This way your daily dose of pompous sermonising can still come your way, despite the absence of the Toad. But no more posts until Monday evening after this one. I am visiting [...]
