I've never really had a 'best of' post. While I always found them interesting, I've never taken to task rounding up all of the albums I've either purchased or have been sent over the course of the year and whittling them down to a select ten that I felt were true standouts. I suppose I've always felt that as soon as I finalized my ten choices, I'd then discover a couple of albums I completely forgot to consider that might have otherwise had made the list. But this year, I'm willing to give it a shot. So [...]

The more I have listened to Damien Rice's 'O' album over the past few years, the more I realize that Lisa Hannigan was a HUGE part of what makes that record so great. I love Damien, I really do, but when you listen to '9 Crimes' you sorta get the sense that there is just something missing. Their voices complimented each other so beautifully, it was like he sounded completely different on the record without her. She had bigger plans of course. Her own records. I am just sitting down and listening to her 'See Sew' release [...]

Well, it's winter again and usually during this time of the year I'm looking for a change in sound. None of the loud, dance-y, beat-y, songs of the summer. I'm looking for something slow, mellow... comforting music. Luckily I came across Lisa Hannigan a little while back. A singer/songwriter from Ireland with a similar voice to Fiona Apple and a sound like that of fellow Irishman Glen Hansard. Her first album Sea Sew comes out in January and seems to be the perfect winter album. [...]

MILK the new Gus Van Sant film was released this week at the ArcLight in Hollywood... Figured I would try to catch the 4PM showing today... Silly me. They closed down Sunset Blvd and Hollywood Blvd not to mention the surrounding streets for a parade! WTF? So I had to find out what Parade closed down the streets of Hollywood... It was the Hollywood Santa Parade 2008 ... WTF? Drove to Hollywood and got stuck in surface street traffic and missed the showing of a film I was looking forward [...]

Ireland's Lisa Hannigan , a songwriter who for the last several years, has been providing her talents to other artists like Damien Rice , the Frames and Herbie Hancock , now poises herself for the spotlight with the release of her debut album, Sea Sew . Although released in Ireland in September, Sea Sew is still new to many people in the US, the album just recently made available on iTunes and eMusic earlier this month. But for fans of Hannigan, many of them earnestly following her next venture, it [...]

Lisa Hannigan , the acclaimed Irish singer whom The New York Times calls "exquisitely ethereal," is poised for the release of her much anticipated solo debut, 'Sea Sew' . Set for release January 20, 2009 on ATO Records, the album has already garnered airtime on tastemaking radio station KCRW and earned early praise from The Los Angeles Times , which calls it "charmingly idiosyncratic." Hannigan is currently supporting Jason Mraz on his 42-date North American tour. Lisa Hannigan on amazon.com [...]

Two weekends ago, I made the trek up I-95 to visit my family in New Jersey. Since I get to visit them about once or twice a season, my mom had jam-packed our weekend with activities, the most anticipated being ...anyone? anyone? ....no less than a Jason Mraz concert at my younger brother's school, Brookdale Community College!! We aren't diehard fans, but we like the Mraz - on vacation this summer we enjoyed his happy new song "I'm Yours" and the rest of his latest album. I, myself, have always been amused by the unfortunate title of his [...]

Another December gig. Another Lisa Hannigan show. These updates never end. But Lisa deserves it. Her album is pretty decent (not as good as Fight Like Apes, but a contender for one of the best Irish albums of the year). You may have read my review here: http://swearimnotpaul.blogspot .com/2008/09/album-review-lisa -hannigan-sea-sew.html Lisa is set to play Vicar Street (her biggest gig yet) on December 13th. Tickets are a Budget-inflated €25, and go on sale next Monday (the 20th of October). Watch 'Teeth' on Other Voices :

I thought she was some thirty-something tortured artiste. Holy shit. And speaking of young lasses, the Doctor took me to see Lisa Hannigan at Whelan's last night. Much enthusiasm from my little sister on Facebook and there was obviously much enthusiasm from many at the sold out gig, so I was expecting great things. I'll leave aside the toadstool lamp and the cutesy boho fairy lights for the minute, that sort of froth can be overlooked if the music transcends it. Lisa Hannigan & [...]

Lisa Hannigan – Sea Sew Damien Rice's 9 was a much lesser album than its predecessor O for one major reason: a lack of Lisa Hannigan throughout. The areas where she appeared were the album's highlights '9 Crimes' for one, but the album suffered without her. It shall be interesting to see will Damien's next album be the same, as it is guaranteed to have absolutely no Lisa after their acrimonious split. But after playing second fiddle to Damien for so long (Vivien was first fiddle!), can she cut it on [...]
Irish singer-songwriter and former Damien Rice cohort Lisa Hannigan will release her debut solo album entitled Sea Sew on September 12th. I haven't received a copy of the album yet, but following is a free and legal download of the first single from Lisa's album. "Lille" is a beautiful ballad embellished with harmonium, glockenspiel, and pizzicato strings with backing vocals from Irish singer Cathy Davey. Lisa Hannigan - Lille (mp3) The above mp3 on my server will be removed in two weeks, after that you can hear [...]
I've just been listening to Una and Phil talking about Lisa Hannigan's new album on Phantom. Both of them were pretty much in agreement that Lisa Hannigan doesn't exactly of current Irish music zeitgiest of forward thinking, eclectic music. It's been proven on this blog time and time again just how vital Irish music is becoming so it certainly feels weird to be talking about the more traditional acts from the last wave of a Irish music of 2000 - 2005 aka The Damien Rice/BellX1 years. I've no specific problem with these artists [...]
