Miguel - "Adorn" . He was a flinty lover, parts of him dusted in stone. Elbows, knees, soles of feet. They walked side by side, brushing shoulders, and his skimmed sides set off sparks. Little shiny sparks. It made her laugh. "There you go again." He never wanted to talk about the sparks, the flint: he was embarrassed, she thought at first, but then she realized he wasn't embarrassed at all. He just didn't want to talk about it. He looked at her with a look all full of tremors. [ Miguel 's all exquisite rosy [...]
In all the craziness of Christmas our in-box got overwhelmed with videos from all sorts of interesting folk. So here's your chance to give them a viewing and pick up one or two nice mp3s. Those Lavender Whales have come up with a novel way of showcasing their track Growth In Question from their new record, Tomahawk Of Praise , which is due for release on the 17th January on Fork & Spoon. a The Red Shoes video [...]
There's not a whole lot of new videos out in 2012 yet, but we've managed to round up some hidden gems in our inbox, and some fantastic new stuff from Talib Kweli as well as the Flaming Lips with a live performance of The Beatles' "I Am The Walrus". I'm personally in love with the [...]

Lisa Jaeggi has been a long-time reader of Knox Road, enjoying the artists we tend to spotlight. She finally sent us an email with her own music, and I don't know what took her so long. I fell in love with her haunting voice and the simplistic sound immediately. So consider this a cry to all artists, readers, and whoever else might stumble upon this blog. Don't be afraid to send your music! Have confidence in your sound, because odds are someone will take a liking to it. (...Okay, I use "someone" broadly. It's very possible your music sucks [...]

This song opens mid-scene, in the middle of a lyrical montage that I still can't quite make out. Lisa Jaeggi's unique perspective and confidence are refreshing to listen to, as she slides into the well-worn genre of folk with a little edge of a soul sound (see: Feist and - I can't believe I'm saying this - Norah Jones). I even took a break from listening to the new B&S album (more on that later) to listen to her: a sure sign of excellence. Lisa Jaeggi self-released her debut album, Oh Lady You Shot Me! , either [...]

This seriously has to be one of the largest mailbox dumps I've ever done. Sixteen songs – and that's after I deleted a good number I didn't want to post. What's funny is I started off thinking this was going to be an unusually small post because I had to go through about 20 e-mails before I ran across something I liked and wanted to post. Like always, I was happy see big names like the Dead Weather and MIA reaching out to bloggers to help promote their respective albums. I've seen both of these tracks posted [...]
by marissa bea (pic by tim) Great music doesn't come from big labels, it doesn't come from endless studio sessions, great equipment or from anything else that they tell you on the radio. Great music comes from people who have pure, endless passion. It comes from the people who have to struggle to book shows, rarely play to more than 20 people, and/or use their laptop as a recording studio. Some get worldwide recognition, some stay underground. They all make [...]

A native of Maryland and a Brooklyn transplant, Jaeggi weathers the NYC singer-songwriter scene, armed with a well-worn voice and themes that range from melancholy narratives to carefully constructed observations about city life. Drawing from influences like Cat Power , Citizen Cope and Ray LaMontagne the 24-year-old has created an original sound that has piqued the interest old NYC music-goers, building a strong underground following at notorious venues such as The Bitter End, Lit Lounge and Rockwood Music Hall. Oh Lady You Shot Me [...]
