I've been digging the new record by Little Claw lately, Human Taste is definitely a continuation of their first effort, but there are some solid jams on here. Dark, warbling pop soaked in lots of fuzz and reverb, sometimes spinning off into endless-jam/one-note-drone land but the handful of tracks that hold some sort of structure are pretty amazing. Thurston Moore. (Andrew Kesin) Thurston Moore is a musician who, aside from being in the legendary band Sonic Youth, has collaborated with everyone from Glenn Branca to Lydia Lunch to Mike Watt. Moore is also a writer, poet, ardent supporter of bold weirdos and fiery rockers, and owner of Ecstatic Peace Records . It was announced recently that an offshoot of the label -- Ecstatic Peace Library -- will begin publishing art books in 2010. [...]

earlier in the year i said this about the race to the bottom seven incher: with a sleeve that looks like it was designed by me drunk at four in the morning with a head full of medicine and my hands celltotaped to a broken felt tip pen. two tracks with the overdriven guitar sound of an nice old pink telecaster being gently forced into the guts and anus of a broken amp. some folk holler pop nonsense over the top of this distorto din. it's frankly fucking [...]

We have been anticipating this moment for a while: new HEALTH album, 'Get Color', which you can pre-order now from always ace Lovepump United. So what does it do? it lures you inside the bedroom, closes the door and hacks at you with razor blades. It pumps you with psychedelic drugs ...
Little Claw - Race To The Bottom
Little Claw return with another album riding along the Sonic Youth highway, basked in a lovely sheen of distortion and fury. Human Taste eschews just a bit of the melodicism that underscored Spit and Squalor... and dives deeper into the scraggly noise side of the noise pop spectrum, though under the storm of amplifier squeal there still beats a heart of pop. Its as if Little Claw build songs, stand back and access them and then hack, chip, blast and kick away at them until they finally yield, then kick them bloodied and battered out the [...]
yow. hank iv. or hiv as they're occasionally dumbbreviated to. i'll keep this as short and sweet (or dwarfed and bitter, depending on yr inclincation) like the record, as it's not new but i just got the vinyl… feels odd to listen to anything on siltbreeze not buried under an avalanche of muck. but this is [...]

The Dirtbombs ::: Photo by Josh No time was spared and no words spoken between songs on Saturday a Chop Suey was host to some of the Motor City's finest purveyors of pop inflected punk, the Dirtbombs. The momentum never flagged as the band seamlessly transitioned from one song to the next; I got tired just bopping along and watching them do it. Thee Emergency's Adm (who opened the stage earlier in the night) had proclaimed the Dirtbombs one of his favorite bands ever, and I can now see why. A band with that kind of energy who [...]
Another week, another collection of wicked sounds from the American No Gaze/Pagan noise underground, this time framed in the context of the impending apocalypse of fear and blood which is our most favourite of dates, Halloween. Ah, and vote Obama kids. Strange monuments rise in recondite summits of the misty forests of ...

Little Claw finally land a release on Siltbreeze and turns out it's their best release yet. Little Claw - Race To The Bottom 7" Seems like Little Claw's ragged femme fatale rock was perfectly made for Siltbreeze, and now this grand meeting of forces has finally come to fruition. The title track is probably Little Claw's most fully realized track yet; noisy and rough [...]

Future singles will include releases by: Psychedelic Horseshit , Little Claw , Cheater Slicks , and Guinea Worms among others. The series is limited to 250, and the series is SOLD OUT. Hello there, you looking all miserable under the neon lights of the tube, you perusing through vacuous magazines while the screens of Oxford Circus and Victoria Station announce the imminent apocalypse, you lost in the trebly vibrations of an ipod configured to switch the world off, you kicking mangy pigeons ...

As I write this I am 63 miles away from tonight's show. This entire weekend I've been moving my shit out of the city and into my new lovely home, built in 1890 by a wealthy steel worker for his 2nd daughter Claire. Supposedly her ashes were discarded in the fireplace. Creepy/awesome, right? But I just want to emphasize how STOKED I am for tonight's show. I don't really know how to discuss the excitement churning within my mental status without getting a little too personal on the subject. Whatever, peep this lineup: Blank Dogs, Eat Skull, Psychedelic Horseshit, Little [...]

A Quick Post Ok thanks a lot paper thin walls (and haha you're not closing, are you? really? fuck). Now "Crystal Ladies" by Blank Dogs is stuck in my head. Perhaps my readers will be similarly afflicted by this Cure -y drone-y reverb-y goodness?? Downloadables: "Crystal Ladies" (box.net mp3) "Three Room Window" (box.net mp3) NOTE: If you like make sure to check out the band's blog (hint hint). Troubleman Unlimited is here [...]

Ecstatic Peace has a way of sneaking out great releases to little fanfare. Sure some of the bigger names get bandied about but they do have a great habit of sliding out some gems that just don't get the adulation they deserve. Portland (by way of Michigan) scuzz-poppers Little Claw are definitely one of these gems. Spit and Squalor Swallow the Snow slunk out of the stables at the tail end of last year but I didn't stumble on it until finding them on fellow MI heroes Tyvek's myspace. Anyway they're a completely obvious choice for the Ecstatic [...]
