Up until compiling this list, I was pretty sure 2011 was not a fantastic year for music. Well, I may have been completely wrong. There might not have been giant releases from the most prominent artists of our generation, but this is only because there are no more prominent artists of our generation. The internet and availability of music has made anybody a contender for making a great record, and I believe it has become a complete toss up as to who makes a future classic in any given year. Relax, for this is a good thing. Here's my big [...]

Words: Saam Das December is always characterised by the battle for Christmas #1, although the dominance of the Military Wives Choir put paid to any real interest in the 2011 "battle" against whatever the 'X-Factor' song was. It'd be nice to actually have a Christmas #1 that somewhow relates to Christmas at some point though. Anyway, here are the top ten singles of December 2011. Akira The Don ft Envy - [...]
19-15 19. Jamie XX - "Far Nearer" Establishing himself as one of the best producers of 2011, it was this 6 plus minute tropical sound fest that made me a true believer in the talents of this man. 18. Little Comets - "Worry" As Little Comets dropped their fantastic debut full length all the way back in the beginning of the year, I was so excited to see them announce a brand new EP, Worry, that dropped December 12th. The title track is just [...]

photo by Lin Zhipeng It's not a Monday, but Bank Holidays and Christmases being what they are, perhaps that's forgivable. Here's the last Monday Music - the one weekly blog where SOIWT drops the London-music-only rule - of 2011... Masterface - Excuse Me Girl You know that feeling when you're utterly exhausted, but so happy and without urgent needs that you don't care in the slightest? That's what this song sounds like. Giddy goodness, from Freedom [...]
Little Comets just released a new EP last week called 'Worry'. In the video below, they performed the title track in what they describe as an "acoustic" style, but I'm a little confused: they're still playing their electric guitars...I think they mean drum-less? Click here to view the embedded video.

As we get ready to bid adieu to another year of fantastic music, your faithful editor has made a list and checked it twice to choose what she considers the best of the year. Agree? Disagree? As always on here on TGTF, comments are welcome. 1. Noah and the Whale – 'Last Night on Earth' (Mercury) – With all the bad news about the economy in our faces each day and scandals rocking public institutions and public figures, we could really use something that can lift our cynical spirits. [...]
Here are a few more videos that we've enjoyed recently. First up is a welcome return for Goldheart Assembly and a song called Linnaeus that comes from their second album due out in spring next year. Also keeping it pretty mellow is Kathleen Edwards with the video for her forthcoming single, Change The Sheets . [...]
We've had a few little gems from Little Comets in the past few months in relation to their forthcoming EP Worry , and today we can add another to the ever growing pile of goodness. Check out this stripped back rendition of their recent single " Worry " which was recorded in a sunny back garden somewhere. A very nice feel good Friday watch that will warm up those extremities in the ever cooling climate. In case you missed it a few weeks back, go listen to the spine tingling "His Thunder" here . [...]

Two years ago, I ran a series of guest posts from people involved in Irish music featuring their top 5 Irish acts at that moment. This time around, I thought I'd shift the focus to international and ask a similar question -
Here is a solid sounding lively release from Newcastle's Little Comets. Their new EP, 'Worry' is due for release on 12th December and to coincide they have released a slick looking black and white video featuring some great shots of the guys live and on tour. Also worth checking out from the EP is 'His Thunder' - all stirring thundering drums and soaring vocals. Little Comets - Worry www.youtube.com/watch?v=IlDUCa umm-k Little Comets - His Thunder [...]
We currently have 275 unread emails in our site inbox, and that doesn't even include the ones we've marked as "Good Stuff" or "Matt Would Make Out With This". Woefully, all of the writers at TWJ have day/night jobs that require time to grade and recover from, so we are eagerly anticipating the day [...]
I don't usually go in for the afro beat thing so I can't give this band a full throated endorsement, but I sure do like this song. Especially the "acoustic" treatment in this video.

There's an interesting kind of symmetry to the way in which Little Comets are ending their year: in the same way that they started it, by releasing some new music. Their Worry EP arrives on December 12th, and from what I've heard of it so far, it doesn't seem like the trio sound any worse for wear after the departure of drummer Mark Harle in May. The title track was unveiled in October, and it's now been followed by the another of the new songs on the EP, the absolutely beautiful, semi-acoustic track, His Thunder . [...]
