The Ambassador is at it again with a remix of Little Dragon's "Ritual Union". His style melds extremely well with that of Little Dragon's vocalist Yukimi Nagano's floaty, dream-like voice and he was able to change the slightly metallic feeling of the original into something that is more futuristic and dance-able. Yet another stellar remix by the Polish Ambassador. Little Dragon - Ritual Union (The Polish Ambassador Remix) P.S. If you happen to be in the Bay area, the Polish Ambassador will be playing at 103 [...]

I'm starting to like Polish Ambassador more and more. Listen (and download) below to his stunningly poppy remix to Little Dragon . If you haven't heard his other outstanding remix to Bon Iver 's 'Perth' that I posted earlier, you need to check that out as well. Watch out for more in 2012. Follow me @OceanPdestrians . Polish Ambassador got a hold of the stems for Ritual Union and decided to make an "indielectronica" version of it. I'll admit to have slept on the latest Little Dragon album, but the title track has been making its way on some of my iTunes playlists. But besides that, this song goes. via Little Dragon - Ritual Union (The Polish Ambassador Remix)

Tweet Listen to and download Felix And The Volcano! 's new song "Son Of Sam" below. One of the most exciting groups that I got my ears on this year is Felix And Volcano! , the synth-pop duo from Dover, New Hampshire who have been teasing with single, remix and EP releases since 2010. So when Sam Ueda tweeted last month that the band would release a new single around the [...]

A lot of people said 2011 was a terrible year. Myself included. And sure, in some ways it was, and in some ways it wasn't, and 2011 is as subject to perspective and the theory of relativity as any other year. But it seemed tough for a lot of people. Europe began sinking into critical debt, natural disasters seemed particularly rife with 2011 kicking off in Australia with devastating floods in Queensland... And of course as the people of multiple countries stood up to their dickhead dictators and said 'enough', they were (among other things) used as human shields. It [...]

Another year, another astonishing array of releases to get you through January to December. But where last year had some very clear cut winners across the board (from the likes of Arcade Fire, Kanye West and LCD Soundsystem), this year has not appeared so obvious. But, better late than never, Hotcakes brings you an eclectic list carefully decided by our five writers. Enjoy! 30. Givers - In Light 29. Balam Acab - Wander / Wonder 28. The Black Keys - El Camino 27. Gui Boratti - III [...]

Posted in General Clickable Play-This-List Soundbite Following on from yesterday's post featuring our favorite albums and EPs of 2011, today we're highlighting our favorite songs. The list below is again in no particular order, the songs we chose may not have necessarily been singles, but were tracks on albums - we're basically highlighting any tune we heard over the past year [...]
This Music Wins Review Of The Year 2011 on Resonance FM After writing an albums of the year list longer than probably all my posts across the entire year put together, putting together a 90 minute radio show for Resonance FM seemed like a breeze. So, here it is: 15 or so of my favourite songs of the year in Radio Show format. View the written list here . DOWNLOAD : This Music Wins Review Of The Year 2011 ( MP3 ) To [...]
Upon publishing our last post, I noticed our post count was at 999. I couldn't just sit here and not complete my 1000th post (well, I had a few guest writers, but I "wrote" most of these "really good posts" mostly all myself) before we began a brand new year, could I? So, on the actual last day of the year, what better way to celebrate 1000 horrible pieces of written prose and musical delight than with my last minute, totally unplanned list of Top Albums I Listened To The Most In 2011? These are not the "best albums of [...]

ALBUMS OF 2011 #35 - #31 #35 Destroyer - Kaputt - Poor In Love ( MP3 ) A January release date rendered Destroyer 's Kaputt one of 2011's first great records. Its the ninth studio album from Vancouver's Dan Bejar, a re-imagining of 1980s synthpop and glamorous shoegaze, laden with female harmonies and brass sections, squealing dance synths and seamless intertwining transitions of close-mic vocals, watery background noise and modern synthesisers. #34 Gang Gang Dance - Eye Contact - Mindkilla ( MP3 ) [...]

Hype Machine is obviously a staple in a lot of blogger/music fan's lives, but I actually didn't appreciate the genius until about 5 months ago, when I started listening to it non-stop while working my 9-5. This remix was one of my first "just clicking around" finds on Hypem. Now I will preface, as a huge fan of hip-hop, I sometimes see extra genius within a piece, because of the ease in which it could be remixed into a hip-hop track. This remix - I am counting the seconds until someone takes this sample and absolutely DESTROYS IT, (in [...]

It's that time of year to look back on the past 12 months and say "what the hell happened to the last 12 months?!". It's also that time of year where us music bloggers and self-proclaimed critics take the time to put together some Best Of lists for your reading pleasure. They don't really mean a whole lot and you can love 'em or leave 'em, but it seems like the right thing to do to sum up the year in preparation of the next. This year we're featuring personal lists from all of our fantastic writers. [...]

Wow 2011, where the hell did you go? I feel happy and saddened to say goodbye, but 2012 should be a blast because no one's going to care about anything, since we're all going to die anyway. Am I right? Bring it, apocalypse. I'd say this year was pretty impressive as far as successful album releases go for many already established acts. With that being said, one thing I noticed about some other "Top Albums of 20113 lists was that a lot of well-deserved underdogs were missing, their slots filled with some hyped-up groups that possibly just have [...]

Two thousand and eleven has been an odd year for me, and I think for music as well. Between acclimating to a completely different environment and being fully immersed in the music world, I foresaw a serious evolution and transformation of my music tastes prior to compiling my "Best of" lists. After the completion of said lists, it seems that not much has actually changed - not only in the last year, but the last five, when observing which names were included. To be honest, it was quite difficult to decide on 10 full albums I really [...]
