[mp3] Little Fish: "Darling Dear" When someone scores the opening slot on huge reunion tour, in this case Hole, they're at least worth checking out. Luckily for everyone, The UK's Little Fish is more than worthy of this high-profile support slot, and their track "Darling Dear" is well worth multiple spins. This is a blues-addled duo, with a serious Velvet Underground fetish; yet their clear channeled rock and roll is a welcome change to the muddled masses that seem to comprise almost the entire indie spectrum these days. Is lo-fi over [...]

If you're an Oxfordshire native, or if you just can't handle the massive crowds at the larger festivals, then from July 23rd to 25th, I'd recommend heading down to Hill Farm, Steventon, for the 13th Annual Truck Festival . Drawing around 5,000 punters each year, the festival gets its name from the flat-bed trailer they use as the main stage, and has a total of six stages, offering everything from Americana to post-rock to electronica. The Barn Stage hosts buzz bands during the day and on Saturday night hosts the Cow-shed Rave. You'll find acoustic and country artists at [...]

Armed with one guitar, one drum, and one organ, Little Fish rip-up guitar rock in these three singles from their upcoming album.

While cycling through myspaces I came across this extraordinary band of such vigor and unprecedented mesmerizing sound the likes you see every couple of years, that simply engulfed me inside the thought that there are so many talented artists out there that wrongfully get little to no coverage. Hailing from Oxford, England, The band is question is called Little Fish and is comprised of vocalist/guitarist/principal songwriter JuJu, " a rail-thin force of nature (think Patti Smith meets PJ Harvey meets Chrissie Hynde) ", to quote the press release, and drummer Nez, the propulsive undercurrent of the band. Oh, [...]
Here's a look at things that deserve, but didn't get, my full attention this week: Little Fish Despite opening shows for Alice In Chains this UK band are more garage-oriented than metal. They're set to release their Linda Perry-produced debut album, Baffled and Beat, early in 2010. Little Fish's Myspace
MM is based in rural Oxfordshire, which gives us a slightly odd musical heritage. While the area is no Liverpool or Manchester it does probably punch above its weight musically. We have Radiohead, possibly the biggest band in the world and unlike other bands bestowed with such a title (U2, REM etc.) yet to show any signs of turning into total and utter garbage. We have Supergrass, and one of the
My mom used to run that old line on me all the time, "Well, mister – if EVERYone jumped off a bridge, would YOU?" To which the answer was always no, I guess. But if EVERYone was talking about a new band you HAVE to hear...would you? To which the answer is well, ...sometimes. So, let's get you ahead of the curve and introduce you to Little Fish — before they make their big splash: "Great to see a rock band focusing on melody rather than senseless riffery….they [...]

British blues-garage-rock duo, Little Fish, are set make some noise over here in the States. Here's what the PR had to say. Once in a very long while a band comes along with a sound that is more than just music. It is raw seductive impulse revealed through mesmerizing vocals, raucous guitars and driving drums; this band is Little Fish. Hailing from Oxford, England, Little Fish is comprised of vocalist/guitarist/principal songwriter JuJu, a rail-thin force of nature (think Patti Smith meets PJ Harvey meets Chrissie Hynde), and drummer Nez, the propulsive undercurrent of the band, [...]

If you plan to follow any musical act this year as they ascend up the charts, you could do worse than Little Fish. Fronted by JuJu (who didn't even pick up a guitar until college), she's taking female rock to a rarified level. Joined by drummer/percussionist Nez, Juju is earning impressive comparisons to Patti Smith and PJ Harvey and likely will continue to do so as long as the UK duo (assisted by Levi French on keyboards) pumps out music like this. This is raw, no-pretense rock by a woman who gets it. And gets it right. Highly recommended. [...]
Little Fish , composed of singer/guitarist JuJu and percussionist Nez have got swagger. It's loud, raw, garage-punk music with a strong, forceful howlin' female vocals. Sources have said JuJu's voice has traces of PJ Harvey and Patti Smith, and I think that sounds about right. Their Darling Dear Mini EP is out now. Little Fish - Darling Dear (mp3) (buy)
If you're currently in New York, this week's Friday Mixtape will probably see little love - why listen to something on record when there are thousands of bands, many of which are featured on this week's Mixtape, performing live, at a venue near you? But for everyone, hopefully this week's mix of new singles, remixes, covers, and mp3s from some up-and-comers you just might want to check out will help curb some of that jealousy. You know, the jealousy resulting from not being about to see the thousands of bands, many of which are featured on this week's Mixtape, performing [...]

My first event of the day yesterday hit the nail on the head. It was called Will Blog for Booze and you know what I am. The first band, Parlovr, who I saw twice yesterday really impressed me and I loved their attitude. They called out everyone at Bowery Electric for not standing on the dance floor and hovering around the bar. Granted they were giving away beer (Magic Hat at that), but it was great to see them do that. Call out jaded music industry people and hanger-ons. They deserve it. You will see how few people were in [...]

Shearwater is set to play Carling Academy Oxford Sunday 14th September, 2008. Other acts include Little Fish and Morrison Steam Fayre . Described as a gem in America's underground, Shearwater come to Oxford following the release of their latest album 'Rook' . The band has just completed supporting Coldplay in the States. They're a spin off of Okkervil River (who played Truck Festival this year) and they sound like a mix between a lot of things, with a Radiohead feel. [...]
