Little Joy's debut (and only album to date) is nothing less than charming. Since it's release it remains an album I fall in love with every time I re-listen. It is an album that allows simplicity to shine through, only bolstered by Noah Georgeson's production, light guitars, and soothing vocals of Binki and Rodrigo. "Fiya" a song by tUnE yArDs is a song that could easily find a home on Little Joy's debut. It is a sweet simple song with a charming melody and a nice build up throughout its entirety. For some reason it's [...]

This year marks the most fun I've had yet putting together twenty songs to soundtrack your summer. The mix came together organically and joyfully while I did summery things, and the contentment I feel lately in these weeks is embedded in the picks. I declared on January 1 (when I did the Polar Bear Plunge ) that 2010 was going to be a flippin' fantastic year, full of new experiences - and it certainly is living up to the promise. Enjoy these as I have, play them at the BBQs to come, and burn them on CD [...]

Little Joy's Binki Shapiro recently tweeted that she and Fab were in US Elle magazine, and now the pictures are up on the Elle.com website . A few to whet your appetite: See the whole gallery on Elle.com .
i Here is a new installment of the music singles chart. There is a new #1 song this week. Decided to use the "Double A-sided" style which the British use. If you don't like that one song from that artist you might like the other song. Check out this week's chart. This Week Last Week Total Weeks Artist Song [...]
So Pavement + Sonic Youth + No Age may have already won the award for best bill of 2010 , but the festivities scheduled at New York's Bowery Ballroom on May 27th will mark the first and probably only performance from what may very well be the year's most unique and downright fantastic collective. On that day, the Bowery Ballroom will celebrate Bob Dylan's 69th birthday by hosting the awesomely titled "Dylan Fest 2010 - a Night To Get Drunk and Celebrate Bob Dylan." The evening's scheduled entertainment will be The Cabin Down Below Band, a collective [...]
Folk-rock troubadour Adam Green's debut art show, Teen Tech, will open at the Morrison Hotel Gallery Bowery (313 Bowery, former home to the famed CBGB's gallery) in his hometown of New York, NY, on April 22nd. Following a private opening night party, the exhibition will be available to the public April 23rd and 24th. Teen Tech showcases another artistic side of singer/songwriter Green, already known for his prolific (six albums in eight years) career as a solo musician and for his work as half of the band Moldy Peaches. Last year, he composed the soundtrack for a German theatrical adaptation [...]
While it looks like Devendra Banhart may be gearing up to compete in a Frank Zappa look-a-like contest, the psychedelic-folkie has recruited his pals Fabrizio Moretti (The Strokes/Little Joy) and Andrew VanWyngarden (MGMT) for his latest video for Baby that features them being transported from the streets of Brooklyn to some far off world where GZA is it's king... Devendra Banhart - Baby
Little Joy Little Joy are a Brazilian/American band formed in 2007 by Los Hermanos singer/guitarist Rodrigo Amarante, The Strokes drummer Fabrizzo Moretti and Binki Shapiro. The band came together when Amarante and Moretti met in 2006, at a festival in Lisbon where both their bands were performing, and the idea came up to start a new musical [...]
Little Joy's Binki Shapiro emailed us over the weekend to let us know that her charity benefit auction goes live today. The auction, which will raise funds for "rebuilding and maintaining long term sustainability in Haiti," includes lots of cool one-of-a-kind items from some of your favorite bands, including the guitar that Ed Droste learned to play on, a No Age shirt that will get you into their... click through for more...

We told you last month about a project for Haitian earthquake relief helmed by Little Joy's Binki Shapiro called "Crafts for a Cause," in which over three dozen musicians, actors, and artists have added original designs to various items to be auctioned off for charity. At that time, we only knew of a handful of items, including Conor Oberst's painted Fender Strat, Mars Volta's Cedric Bixler-Zavala's skateboard design, a t-shirt by Fleet Foxes' Robin Pecknold, and more. Well, the auction will go live tomorrow morning (Mar. 15) at 8AM EDT here , and the lineup [...]
It's hard to avoid word on the Haiti situation these days. News of the county's slow recovery has been splattered all over media since January and various organizations, businesses, sports franchises, restaurants, musicians , and individuals have pulled together hoping to raise money for the country in despair. And now vocalist and musician Binki Shapiro of L.A.'s Brazilian/American rock band Little Joy has jumped on the band wagon, announcing the online auction for Haiti relief which she recently put together. Shapiro has been a member of Little Joy since 2007 alongside vocalist Rodrigo Amarante and drummer Fabrizio [...]

Well now that the sun has made an appearance for 6 solid days I can't help but think about summer, sitting on the deck just letting the day pass by, drinking beers around the fire, kayaking and jumping off rocks. Canadian summers are the best, which makes the winter suck that much harder. Little Joy formed in 2007 by Los Hermanos, Rodrigo Amarante, Fabrizio Moretti (drummer for the strokes), and Binki Shapiro. The Brazilian American band really captures the sound of Rio, it reminds me of this bar right in the middle of Ipanema where [...]

Bikini Shapiro of Little Joy has gotten a TON of top-notch musicians, artists, and celebrities to contribute custom made artwork and items for her Crafts for a Cause auction . All proceeds will be donated to Artists for Peace and Justice , a charitable organization started by filmmaker Paul Haggis. The online auction will begin on March 15th, but for now you can check on Bikini's Tumblr blog for the event which features teaser shots of some of the goods that will be for sale. Contributers are a who's who of popular indie rock [...]
We love musicians because of what they offer us: songs that fill us with emotions and that allow us to celebrate and even forever cement a particular moment in our lives. And with the recent tragedy in Haiti, many musicians are looking to give back. While some did it with the songs they're known for , others are taking a different path: making arts and crafts. According to TwentyFourBit , it's not so much arts and crafts as it is decorating and designing items for Artists For Peace and Justice , a non-profit that [...]
I have a renewed fancy for music videos. Back when I had little knowledge outside the genre of popular music, I thought nothing of music videos. I would watch it on MTV, but I'd never really pay attention to it in relation to the song. Now though, I see how everything really has to come together in the video to make the listening experience all the better. I stumbled upon this new song of Camera Obscura that has a pretty awesome visual concept along with it. The vocals and instrumentals are that kind of dreamy pop that ring in [...]

You know a band was talented when multiple members split off to produce successful solo work. The Strokes did just that. Damn I miss them! All sadness aside, the best part about The Strokes members' solo projects is that they each tackled a distinct genre. Albert Hammond Jr's straight-forward, cheerful rock is a continent away from Fabrizio Moretti's brazilian-infused jamming with Little Joy . And, at the end of 2009, Julian Casablancas brought his scratchy, distinctive voice back to life for the equally unique Phrazes for the Young , a sunny electronic [...]

Devendra Banhart has always existed in his own creative world, as Pitchfork found out when Banhart revealed his side project in September, an "all-harmonium orchestra called Droney Mitchell." When recently speaking to NME , however, the singer/songwriter revealed that another project titled Permanent Adventure is up first. Unfortunately for us, he appears to have roped in Fab Moretti (drummer for The Strokes); the duo have worked together in the past on Megapuss, but Permanent Adventure takes the weird factor to another level: "We wear helmets, and we have contact mics [...]
