If I had to sum up my time in Cincinnati over the past month in one picture, it would probably be what you see to your right: Me and the beautiful & talented Tiffany Nicholson (whose photography you can see in my latest TRACER interview with the afore-blogged-about You, You're Awesome here .) at Mayday's appropriately named "Drunk Bastard Bingo" dancing. If I had to sum up my time in Cincinnati over the past month in a phrase, it would probably be "Gee, who knew Ohio was so fan-fucking-tastic?" Aside from the bane [...]

As discussed previously , nothing builds buzz for an indie band like a cover of a good pop song. Proving that sentence true are New Zealand's Little Pictures , putting a new twist on Weezer's '90's classic "Buddy Holly". Who else in the "Mid-20's to Early 30's" age group has vivid memories of dancing in their school gymnasium to "Buddy Holly" in middle school? I also remember dancing to No Doubt and that Merril Bainbridge song that I haven't heard in about ten years. For the most part, [...]
Shuffle Sundays is a weekly feature in which we feature a cover chosen at random by my iTunes shuffle. The songs will usually be good, occasionally be bad, always be interesting. All downloads will only be available for one week, so get them while you can. After you listen, discuss this week's tune in the comments. To think, it all started with a few simple questions. What's with these homies

dl: LITTLE PICTURES - This House Can Fit Us All (Small Voices remix) ( alt ) ------------------------------ ------------------------------ -------- ------- I can't really explain what's so appealing about this remix. I mean, it's not as if there's anything particularly unappealing about it. Musically, it's a little repetitive, resulting in a hypnotic haze that I just can't shake. So without further ado, I present Small Voices with the Blogger's Choice Award in the Little Pictures [...]

For the last couple of days, I've been sniggering happily while reading (Daily Show star) John Hodgman's list of '700 Hobo Names'. My favurites include '#34 Senator Cletus Scoffpossum', '#675 Rocky Shitstain Mankowicz', '#132 Patrick Intergalatic' and... '#209 Nick Nolte'. Check out this website devoted to it and there's a 50 minute recording of him reading them out with Guitar backing (If you know where to look). While not listening to that, I've been listening to this: Firstly I can recommend the undulating Pianos and clattering Drums of [...]

I'm the worst blogger ever. Who holds a remix contest and doesn't announce the winners until nearly a month after intended? I do. But whatevs, I'm a blogger-being, not a damn internet messiah. Below are some runner-ups for the Little Pictures "This House Can Fit Us All" remix contest. You'll notice that the majority of them are electro-tinged, heading towards an "up in the club" direction. You'll also notice a common trend among the two winners and the grand prize winner, but you're going to have to wait at least a week to hear those! [...]

(photo by Dan Batkin-Smith) New Zealand awesome-pop group Little Pictures covering any Weezer track ever (well, maybe anything before Make Believe ) is like a meeting of after school clubs, all braces-filled smiles and sharpening number two pencils. When we featured the duo in July of last year , we said their songs were full of "inspiring, self-aware and genius melodies" which could totally have been said by us in 1994 about Rivers Cuomo and crew. This cover, however, completed for the Buffet Libre -helmed Rewind 2 project, turns the [...]
So we haven't done a covers post in quite a long time and were feeling quite guilty so we're gonna make up for it. And our timing is perfect because... The Sarcastic Dharma Society ...happen to have a new covers album out. I have good news and even better news and amazing news about it, which one do you want to hear first? The good news is that we're talking covers of such artists as Julie Doiron, Why?, [...]

Buffetlibre Rewind 2.0 80's covers . Awesome much? I have spent all morning downloading songs and getting really excited. I am unhealthily addicted to covers. Here are some of my favourites: Here Is The News (ELO cover) - Au Revoir Simone Y Control (Yeah Yeah Yeahs cover) - Baron von Luxxury Dancing in the Dark (Bruce Springsteen cover) - Kah [...]

I admit I like Buffetlibre ... since I first discovered them on the intercube, I dig their large vision in the dance music scene. But as much as this is about them, this isn't really all about them at all... It's about that little part of your innards that wants to wear parachute pants and a rat tail to the roller rink where you will have your heart broken for the first time, and possibly second, third, and fourth too... yep. This is all about the 80's. Rewind is a Buffetlibre project that is nothing less than [...]

The Buffetlibre DJs Rewind 2 .0 project was released on their website on January 1. The project features a variety of covers and remixes from years past. Unlike the first project, this featured a bigger group of artists and tracks (89 tracks in total). All tracks are free for download so just visit the website to get them all. I was quite aware of the 1st project and checked it out like I did this one but I finally gave it up after being disappointed with some of the covers. It definitely takes a lot [...]
The Buffet Libre DJs have completed their second REWIND project. You may remember we shared the first one with you last July . This time around they focused on covers of songs from the 70s, 80s and 90s and feature an even more impressive lineup of bands... Starfucker, CFCF, The Botticellis, Little Boots, Nightwaves, Codebreaker, Robbers On High Street, Au Revoir Simone, Bonde Do Role, Headlights, The Glass, The Ruby Suns and almost 80 other bands and DJs are covering loads of classics and rarities. [...]

Spanish DJ collective Buffetlibre unleashed their massive new project Rewind 2 onto the internet today. The project consists of 70 songs from the 70s , 80s and 90s reimagined by some of today's best underground/blog artists. Go here to download the whole thing. A few of my favorites are below. Starfucker - Girls Just Wanna Have Fun (Cindy Lauper Cover) [ YSI ] Diamond Cut - Teardrops (Woman & Womack Cover) [ YSI ] The Old Believers - Naive Melody (Talking Heads Cover) [ YSI ] Heads We [...]

I forgot to mention that these top songs are still very personal opinions despite trying to take as many suggestions of the rest of the writers. I'm not sure how people will respond to the list, numbering isn't quite as important as inclusion . I like taking suggestions as there will be millions of tracks I likely missed. As is the goal with this list, 10-limit descriptions included. Previously: #76-100 Numbers #51-75: #51 Creator by Santogold w/ Switch and Freq Nasty ( myspace / video -unofficial was [...]

I sometimes give abnormally high scores to a few records no one has heard about. I do admit that part of it is romanticizing a newly undiscovered band that should be heard, thus unintentionally putting a score up a notch, with the hopes that people listen to the band. While, Nancy makes me feel as if I give positive reviews to every band, some bands maintain their status much longer after I've reviewed their album and the only thing I can honestly say is that these 6 bands are some underrated and under the radar acts [...]
by felix [Editor's note: tickets to this event are currently sold out but a few wait list spots will open up 30 minutes prior to start time.] The hipster citizens of Bushwick are at it again. These people have some serious neighborhood initiative. Already heavy influences behind the Open Studios art fest , the Bushwick Department of Public Works is cementing another tradition with their bi-monthly Umami food banquets. This Sunday from 5-9 PM you can head [...]
