I've definitely been allured by some real freaks in recent times. Rough Trade recently made The Strange Boys' most recent creation their Album of the week. A creation called 'Be Brave'. There's just something so friendly about this band. The wailing lead vocalist accompanied by his wailing band make quite a jolly mixture. When I listen to this particular track, I have to refrain from jumping up, waving my hands in the air and shrieking "YOU HAVE TO BE BRAVE!!" with a large smile on my face. All the happy wailing and half-shouts combine to [...]

This is a shout out to the band Little Teeth from San Francisco. They have embarked on a huge ambitious tour through the US and are planning a European tour as well. Their debut album Child Bearing Man was released September of 08 on Absolutely Kosher Records . I was going to see them again at Death by Audio tomorrow but they cancelled due to illness. I saw them for the first time at CMJ at Zebulon. I unfortunately created a poorly titled post CMJ [...]

There are various ways to be directly involved with your local music scene. You can write and perform music, with a band or by yourself; you can put together and promote shows and events; you can volunteer for and support local music organizations; you can write and publish local music blogs and mags (ahem). So what does Jen Chochinov choose to do? Essentially, all of the above. She serves as frontwoman for the band Schande , she DJs as Jen Schande thrice a month at local venues (first and third Monday nights at [...]

Because... It seems that "little" is this year's "deer", like "deer" was last year's "wolf". Huh? Band names? What band names? Of course I'm not talking about that! Doof. Didn't you read the first sentence properly? Last year, all wolves became deers. Dude! You missed that Animal Planet episode? Get a TV, man! So anyways, this year zoologists at the World Animal Nurture Kingdom Society (also known as WANKS) have advised deer owners to watch out for widespread shrinking of their deer. Shrinking to, like, really little. Like, puny. Punier than wolf. Which turned into deer. [...]
I love them....! Live at the Matinee Cleveland. Filmed by loumnz back in October. "Japanese Candy" | download Little Teeth's debut album Child Bearing Man was released last year via Absolutely Kosher & you can buy it now on iTunes . Myspace | Tour Dates | Buy

Not Christmassy & although varying in taste, really not at all sweet... these are the pre-festivities antidote to over-indulgence in sugary confections. Six candy-related songs, each quite different, each artist seeming to know exactly what they're doing, and be good at it. From the measured, tuneful claustrophobia of El Perro Del Mar, the acoustic grit & strings of Little Teeth, the smooth yet manacing hip-hop of Candy Coated Killahz... there's a real depth & range here. Rafter are in for their lo-fi take on banjo based indie- folk, Tim Fite, simply because I so admire his ability, [...]
Fol Chen (Los Angeles, CA) Since playing at Radio Free Silverlake's Let's Independent in March we've watch Fol Chen really come into their own. Yesterday, the band announced that they've signed to San Francisco based label Asthmatic Kitty - home to Sufjan Stevens, My Brightest Diamond and my personal favorites Little Teeth. Fol Chen will be releasing their debut length Part 1: John Shade,

The San Francisco indie label, Absolutely Kosher , is gaining a reputation for delivering some wonderfully offbeat artists --- 60 Watt Kid , Okay a nd now Little Teeth . The track Japanese Candy, from the album Child Bearing Man [ buy ], is laced with bizarre vocals and [...]

Download: Little Teeth - "Japanese Candy" Download: Little Teeth - "Between My Ears" San Francisco's Little Teeth have transfixed me with their bizarre and totally amazing sound. With incredible and intense vocals, Dannie Murrie strikes me in a very strange and compelling way. Their new record, "Child Bearing Man," is out now on Absolutely Kosher. Little Teeth on MySpace (Ian Anderson)

This week's podcast is our latest monthly mix episode, featuring new music, recent music and otherwise excellent music from seven Bay Area bands and one from the Central Valley. More information about all of the bands below: Blue Rabbit ("Separate") recently released their debut EP Separate digitally and the title track is some great rolling cello-pop. You can pick it up at their MySpace page , and can see the San Francisco folk-rockers on October 19th at the Fiesta [...]

Little Teeth are from San Francisco, Cali. Their sounds are folk pop that crashes and yelps out passionately and feels a little like Alanis Morissette's Jagged Little Pill at some points but 100x crazier . Dannie's vocals soar, crack, scream out, but always sound like she's deeply feelin' it, deeply into what's she's singing about and dead-ON synched to the immediacy of her band's hiccupy, junkyarded American avant-something. They released thir debut album Child Bearing Man yesterday via Absolutely Kosher . It is a record of growls, squeaks, [...]

Little Teeth - "Japanese Candy" SF punk-folk trio Little Teeth released their debut album Child Bearing Man this week on Absolutely Kosher Records . Fans of eccentric art-rock should check out these offbeat yet melodic tracks, which feature the powerful vocals of Dannie Murrie alongside members Ammo Eisu and Andy Tisdall (whose solo work we have long championed ). The band's CD release show is this Sunday night at Cafe du Nord , but you can already pick up the new album [...]

Here's an album that's coming out tomorrow for you: Child Bearing Man . Yea, it's a scary proposition - I would never want to pop a 10 lbs. youngin' out of any orifice of my body. I give COMPLETE credit to all the woman who do it and bow down to your efforts on behalf of men everywhere. In this case, the album's being popped out by the above pictured trio known at Little Teeth ., and while it doesn't weight in at 10 lbs., at times you'll think that Dannie Murrie , the group's [...]
