After two ventures to the very big smoke in the last seven days I genuinely feel like I have been cheating on my long-time beloved with a cheap floozy. Plugd Records you know I love you but that leggy Tower Records floozy has her own methods of seduction. To have any clue what this series of posts is about click here . As the photo suggests this week's purchases so happened to be: [...]
For this week's Friday "Live @ The Living Room" track, we dig back to an early show from Norah Jones and The Little Willies for "Jolene", the Dolly Parton classic that has been a live staple but only appeared in studio form on the band's For The Good Times album this year. Norah is joined in the Little Willies by guitarist Jim Compilongo, drummer Dan Rieser and longtime Jones associates Lee Alexander on bass and singer/songwriter/guitarist Richard Julian. South By Southwest is part music festival, part conference, and all party. Whereas initially it may have been an opportunity for unknown acts to get noticed by decision and taste makers, many more major artists have begun descending on the live music capitol of the world to sell their wares to the industry elite. Ten years ago the White Stripes played to a somewhat unenthusiastic crowd outdoors , this year Jack White packed an entire venue full, with thousands of rabid fans (including me) standing outside on the street desperately listening through a window. [...]
This is my fifth year straight where I descended to the great city of Austin, Texas to enjoy the most insane week of live music you will ever enjoy. I took a little easier than most years, but I still had a very fulfilling week of music. I get to enjoy a wide array of [...]

Tom Morello rips it up as the Nightwatchman. AUSTIN - First off, our apologies today for all the up-and-coming acts that we were supposed to spotlight - Thursday at the South by Southwest music conference, the big names took over. Everywhere we looked, there seemed to be one superstar or another under foot. We couldn't help but stumble into a show with a familiar voice or two. We started the day in a parking lot: namely the front lot of the great independent record store Waterloo Records [...]

Norah Jones has penciled in her fifth studio album, Little Broken Hearts , for a May 1st release via Blue Note/EMI. Spanning 12 tracks, the record was produced and co-written by Jones’ Rome compatriot, super-producer Brian “ Danger Mouse ” Burton. Much like Rome ’s spaghetti western inspiration, the cover art for Little Broken Hearts (above) is an homage to classic movie posters, particularly the Russ Meyer-directed 1965 film Mudhoney . Jones will premiere her new album with a performance at this year's South by Southwest [...]
Norah Jones and friends deliver some good old country comfort.
NYC country folk collective The Little Willies have seen six years between the release of their debut and their latest album, For the Good Times. Still nursing a knack for twangy Americana, the group sounds more refreshed, energetic, and jazzier. With Norah Jones on keys, occasionally trading vocals with Richard Julian, the group’s breezy, swing-heavy sound is equal parts honky tonk and hopping jazz club. Each member of The Little Willies has his or her own solid musical identity outside of the group, but together they're a powerhouse. For the Good Times [...]

Today Norah Jones announced the release of her new album Little Broken Hearts (Blue Note/EMI), a collaboration with the producer and musician Danger Mouse , dropping this spring. Of course, this partnership was formed during their collaboration on the much acclaimed album ROME . Jones and Danger Mouse share the songwriting credits and perform the majority of the instrumental parts; Jones on piano, keyboards, bass, and guitar, and Danger Mouse contributing drums, bass, guitar, keyboards, and string arrangements. Norah Jones will be touring heavily around this release leading into the [...]

Ascoltare i The Little Willies solo perché sono l’ennesima incarnazione di Norah Jones sarebbe riduttivo.
Since collecting a slew of Grammys for her 2002 debut Come Away With Me , Norah Jones has sold a staggering 39 million albums, but even with all that success the singer-songwriter can be seen playing tiny rooms all throughout New York City with a variety of side projects. Early in her career Jones bonded with a number of local musicians over their love of classic country music, forming The Little Willies as a way to honor the legacy of those musicians. The band, who released their debut in 2006, have regrouped and [...]

Norah Jones and co. took some of their most beloved country tunes and recreated them with the love you'd expect from the original songwriters themselves. Norah Jones' country leanings are not as well known as her other tunes, but if you asked her, she'd say, "I love playing country music. More than any other genre, it makes me feel at home." And that's exactly the feeling you get from The Little Willies and their latest album For the Good Times. Formed in 2003 to play a single gig of country covers at the famed Living Room on Manhattan's Lower [...]

The Little Willies - For the Good Time
