Even though Look At What The Light Did Now just was at theater-ish places, a DVD release is now scheduled for December 7th. And though the movie will be enough to interest pretty many, as it was not readily available for theater viewing, the DVD promises bonus features that will please the remaining cynics. Check out the haul: "In addition to the documentary, the DVD release will contain bonus footage of five single shot, unedited live performances from The Reminder Tour; footage from The Living Lantern–a performance at Toronto’s Cameron House as part of [...]

Little Wings & Feist - Look At What The Light Did Now
Kyle Field - also known as Little Wings - and Leslie Feist sing the alliterative single, “Look at What the Light Did Now” under rocks and a little bit of sun. When I was about to fly to LA a few weeks ago, I had this song on repeat at the airport. I was excited about seeing California again and feeling the personal sunshine I miss. I think it’s been three years since we left. In California, I can find small sun-filled corners and nooks that remind me of my childhood. I [...]

With all the Furthur fans cleared out for Day Two, Outside Lands became noticeably younger and way more crowded. This is largely due to amount of refreshingly original line-up that covered the stages that day. With 2010 buzz acts The Soft Pack, Janelle Monae , and Mayer Hawthorne as well as indie-rock heroes Phoenix, Empire of the Sun , and Kings of Leon ; Day Two was shaping our to be very impressive. Not to mention the legendary Al Green , who seemed to draw the biggest crowd that day. [...]

On Wednesday, July 28th at Bottom of the Hill , J. Tillman sat alone onstage with his guitar and a cymbal (that went almost completely unused). The crowd was so enraptured they were silent. The only thing you heard besides him was beer being poured. Tillman played almost exclusively new songs, for which he apologized. In-between songs he was like a folky stand-up. He had the audience in stitches, and was making the ladies swoon. The girls behind me wanted to jump his flannel. The new songs were good, but didn’t take the [...]

Where all my 0ver-30s at? I know it's the Rickshaw Stop, but they allow people that age in there too. poster by Wendy Stonehenge I was mighty pleased to see the younger crowd (at least, the ones who weren't on too much Xanax) digging the Sleepy Sun sound and learning a thing or two about how to bang a head, but I was really surprised not to see more of the, shall we say, more experienced heavy-music fans there. Sleepy Sun's the real deal, fellow aging [...]

Fresh off a tour with Arctic Monkeys, Sleepy Sun are back home for a show this Saturday night at the Rickshaw Stop (8:30pm, $12). The band's new album, Fever , is out in May, and the Open Eyes EP is available now on iTunes and eMusic . Fever 's "Sandstorm Woman" was originally the B-side on the Sleepy Son 103, and you can hear a rocking live take on that song in the band's New, Improved, LIVE session [...]
