by ill? ya! (NYC)January is almost half-over and still so much sonic battery left - not a bad way to start 2011. Between the Castevet, Liturgy and Trap Them shows, this Friday is going to be a pretty tough call - hold off on the Union Pool show though and go to the Cake Shop on Saturday instead, where Crustcake favorites Psychic Limb will kick things off. [Publisher's Note: Fuck it, go to both!]
With 2010 freshly laid to rest (hopefully with plenty of good friends, good food, a healthy amount of booze and, of course, great music), all of us here at Crustcake are excited about what's coming in 2011. While adding both this staff writer and Ill? ya! late this past summer, we only enjoyed a portion of 2010, so 2011 is looking even more mouth-wateringly tasty to us. We're interested to know
More festival news to make you jealous! This time it's about Roadburn, which we've salivated over like most men do over Christina Hendricks. If you thought they couldn't rival last year...well, they did. Trust us.Godflesh are playing Streetcleaner in its entirety. Swans are headlining one night. Candlemass will perform their classic debut Epicus Doomicus Metallicus as a whole, featuring original

I admit black metal isn't really my thing, mainly because I just find the trappings surrounding it silly. The big exception for me has been Ulver, who have always been willing to experiment, and have refused to allow themselves to be confined based on what people think black metal should look or sound like. Liturgy is another band that, like their "transcendent black metal" tagline says, plays by their own rules. And they melt faces and expand [...]
Banner Designed by Cysquatch Welcome to "Question of the Week," a (sometimes) weekly debate amongst the MetalSucks staff regarding a recent hot button issue. This week, we have our first ever reader-suggested QOTW, coming from MetalSucks Maniac Cougar Party: WHAT BANDS DO YOU HATE THAT YOU HAVE SEEN LIVE MULTIPLE TIMES BECAUSE THEY ARE ALWAYS OPENING [...]
Thrill Jockey Records is destined to seep into every nook and cranny of the music world. From the Appalachian string jaunts of Black Twig Pickers to the Kenyan benga grooves of Extra Golden, the Chicago-based label digs deeper by the minute, expanding its presence and crossing genres without breaking a sweat. And true to its nature, the label is celebrating its newest signing: Brooklyn's black

Folks, I got serious beef today. Went out last night to see kitty litter buying Glenn Danzig heading the Blackest Of The Black Tour 2010, only to get to the venue and find out that he threw a hissy fit and split town because the stage was too small. That's the story I got from the folks at the venue, so I took it with a grain of salt, but until I hear otherwise... Anyway, the night wasn't a total bust because I got to see Toxic Holocaust, Marduk and Possessed, all of whom kicked bootay [...]

This week's two best shows are tied to CD releases, and luckily for you, I have some music for you to check out before the shows. The first is Monsonia , who will celebrate the release of "33.3," out now on Holidays for Quince, with a release party Friday, Nov. 12, at Nightlight. This record reminds me a lot of one of my all-time favorite bands, The Jesus Lizard, with a little Shellac and Honor Role thrown in. MAKE and Minor Stars are also on this show. Monsonia, "Age of Machines" [...]

As someone who came up in the 90s West Coast hardcore scene (see my post "5 Things I Miss About 90s Hardcore" for some especially ridiculous memories), I first came across Dave Astor when he was playing drums for Locust. I saw them back in 1995 with Man Is The Bastard at the Velvet Elvis [...]

Liturgy were scheduled to be on tour with Child Abuse this week, but it looks like that's not happening: Our US tour is postponed due to illness; sorry to anyone who was looking forward to coming out. We really regret this and will reschedule as soon as we can. Sad news indeed. It looks like Child Abuse will be going this one alone!

"Liturgy's drummer Greg has come down with acute tonsillitis and mono. He has been advised by his doctor not to go on tour as he is very contagious and could permanently damage his health if he doesn't stay home to recover. This means that we have to cancel their entire tour, including the show" scheduled for the 30th in Dallas. ( via ) What. A. Shame. MP3: Liturgy - Renihilation =w=
Less than a decade ago, Stanley Koren set out to construct a neurotheological lab apparatus that could make you see God through sound. The GOD HELMET, as outlined by the specifications by Dr. Michael Persinger, is a modified snowmobile helmet with sonic stimulaters that when worn on the head of the subject in an anechoic chamber, [...]
