Plaid Dragon is an alt-folk band from Springfield, Missouri with a front line female vocalist. The band plays a blend of folk, mod-folk, ambient and alternative sound. Plaid Dragon is one of those catchy indie band that produces music that easily gets stuck in one’s head. A little over a year ago we reported that after not hosting rock shows for well over a decade, Pete Shapiro had struck a long-term deal with the Capitol Theatre to bring music back to the legendary rock palace . It's always interesting to hear a stripped acoustic version of a song performed in a live setting and that point is really hit home with this unplugged take on "Blackberry Light" from Mississippi troubadour Charlie Mars . Recorded recently during a solo performance at The Living Room in New York, the punchy laid back funk that permeates the original studio version has been replaced with a fitting disheveled and relaxed country folk vibe and a southern accent that's a bit at odds with Mars' spoken introduction on the songs lyrical origin. This Friday's From the Living Room to the Loft track is a very fine, very raw version of "Echo Park", a song from Joseph Arthur and his 2004 album Our Shadows Will Remain . Arthur completedd a ten-night residency at the famed Lower East Side club, combining his own uncompromising solo performances with his distinctive art, matching his eclectic songs and poetry with some impromptu drawings. When Swedish songstress Anna Ternheim made an appearance at famed NYC venue The Living Room a few years back she performed solo -- but she did have her trusty iPod loaded up with some beats to serve as her "band" when needed. One song that utilized her pint-sized percussive device was her interesting take on David Bowie's "China Girl". Over a looped beat and her own acoustic guitar picking, Ternheim strips the song down to its core with some finespun minor chord changes and lets the listener take in and savor each lyrical line [...]
